Man, error messages are really scary, not because "oh no my PlayStation is corrupted how can I tell my dad!" Or something, but the way they look is really terrifying. Like I'd expect someone to put them as an Easter egg in a horror game.

i was sitting on a chair far from my bed late at night playing my PS1 some years ago. the only thing that lit the room was my phone and tv. I booted my PS1 and I ended up catching Personified Fear. My volume was a bit loud when it occured. By the time it was over, I turned off the TV and put my hands over my head and started crying uncontrollably

Fearful Harmony can be triggered without a mod chip on the very first PlayStation models (like, launch models that have the laser assembly in the back of the tray and will get melted by the power supply) if I recall correctly, the bios on that model didn’t have a contingency for a non appropriately formatted disk

Imagine your playstation turns on by itself, and at the middle of the night you hear PERSONIFIED FEAR I would just scream like ishowspeed at that point

The fearful harmony happens when the cpu is slowed down, mainly doing something that it does not do. Therefore the CPU is slowed and it repeats the whole process but slowed down. And it repeats and repeats until it has been crashed

I once got personified fear as a kid with a sketchy copy of crash 3. And that is the story of how I chucked my ps1 out the window. P.S., I'm scared of evos now

Fearful Harmony and Personified Fear is actually part of the startup, listen closely and you can hear them. The ones in the end are just glitched out, they normally play on lower sound levels, and they just start mixing up to a high pitch screeching noise.

I remember the personified fear happened to me when i was 4 year old and i was traumatized from it one day i broke the console with the hammer and my father was really disappointed cause he bought it for himself and playing soccer all days

I found out that Fearful harmony is not made to scare gamers,if you watch ps1 startup slowed down its fearful harmony and uncompleted personified fear

For me the scary part of PS1 was not error messages but it was weather or not your game was gonna load. sometimes you gritted your teeth during long load times especially when you hadn't reached a save point yet and just beat a level from hell

I think what happens with the Forbbiden Image is that the PS1 thinks that the PC disc was a PS1 game, therefore booting into it and tries to load the license screen data. But since the PC disc does not contain that data, it just loads up what the PS has from the BIOS. Also, did anybody notice that at 3:13, the SCEE text is [CEE?

Imagine being less than 8 years old and hearing the Fearful Harmony or Personified Fear.

I recall ages ago hearing Fearful harmony is the PS1 attempting to read from the disc anyway, and it generally computes as noise. My favourite one is Personified Fear and Fearful harmony combined. I've seen it a few times. I miss those days dearly. I remember my PS1 fondly, as well as my PS2 I got later as a hand-me-down.

i remember when i was 6 and got the personified fear error, we got a used PS1, overall good condition, but with corrupted BIO, nobody in our family knew what is was, so we bought it, it came with 3 games, Tekken, Spyro 1 and 2, i was so excited to turn it on, but i got the personified fear error, i was scared for 5 years of any console, when my friend wanted to play on his PS2, i started screaming for mom to come, i still get kinda scared when i hear it..

forbidden image can either happen when a pressed disc is inserted or when a data disc is inserted into a modchipped PS1 also on a PS2, the forbidden image is just the text "PlayStation" on a black background

I remember that I had a very very scratched (and bootleg) disc of driver 2, that when inserted at my ps1 it did the 1st forbidden image (3:11), but it actually boots up and I could play it "normally" (since the disc was scratched I got lots and lots of glitches, like falling to the ground and dying, random crashes, music stops playing, etc)

Fearful Harmony The system detects the data, tries to read it, but has a hard time reading it. This loads up the RAM significantly, thus causing a rhythm like pattern that is completely random to the system. If the RAM is clear, data can be processed to memory quickly. The slow tunes that repeat is the PlayStation theme filled with RAM that causes an improper reading between the RAM and the system's BIOS.

Fearful Harmony and Personified Fear are horrifically clever and beautiful.

Okay, I am now 18 years old and don't normally get scared by videos online, on the big screen, or otherwise. Every now and then there's an exception for something that scares me on a personal level of my own personal phobias or whatnot, but the final "Personified Fear" segment of the video truly got me. Due to the quietness of the last segment, I had my headphones on at full volume, and when... it happened, I didn't merely jump, my entire body literally froze and seized up, my eyes got wide, and my heart felt like it left my chest, and even when the "Thanks for watching!" message showed up I didn't wanna move my head. I can only imagine putting a disc in my ps1 as a kid (5-6 yo) and having the volume loud cause I was so excited to play Crash or - my personal favorite - Spyro and hearing my console roar and scream at me for seemingly no reason. How indescribably loud that was, mixed with the genuine unexpectedness of such a terrifying noise to be put into a children's game console, scared the ever-loving shit out of me, more-so than almost anything in the past few years. Jesus H. Macy, congrats Sony, you gave kids obvious nightmares.
