Both variants are actually correct, HOWEVER, if you take a look at the American NTSC and mod it, then you get the "Software Terminated. The Console May Have Been Modified." You get the error due to format (be it NTSC-J (Japan), NTSC (American) or PAL (European)) mismatch as well. For those who don't understand, it's simply called Region Block. @BK4, please take notes and probably put it into the next errors video. Eh, it's actually up to you.
it's an anti-piracy thing. it occurs if the game detects a weird region (hola i am playing this japanese game in sweden) (also it's not "remodeled" it's "modified" to see if there exists a piracy modchip.)
Apparently there was an earlier version of this, with no Japanese text and a slightly smaller circle with a red hand in it. This is also known as the Red Hand Protect screen and it is incredibly obscure, with only 2 videos on RU-vid about it, and both being uploaded fairly recently. Both videos were uploaded by different creators: Ransu and PLAY NOW. Ransu is an experience PS1 modder (i think) and PLAY NOW is just a person who uploads very random content.

If you get scared, just remember: Errors are not meant to be friendly, they are meant to be taken seriously (even IF the error is just a couldn't read disk error.) If you get scared, you probably understand more about errors than you think. It's completely normal so it's nothing to worry about.
Especially if it's a console bought from ebay or somethin It may have been modded and the kid didn't see that it says "PS1, modded" That's gonna be sad af
For context, this happens when a game had anti mod chip detection, on boot the PS1 asks the disk for its 4 letter region code that is specially burned on the disk with a "wobble grove" a non stealth mod chip will always give that code, so some games would ask for the code after boot wich is normally not possible but the mod chip will still give it and the disk will throw up that error. Stealth mod chips though would disable themselves after boot
@@folkjam if it were the ps1 would lock up, that warning displays if the region is provided during the titlescreen, which if you had an honestly pretty bad modchip that would happen
Bro i just wanna say that I love your videos i really like the errors you show its really interesting to see how consoles were back then keep it up bro
The PS1 is too Japanese The PS2 is too blocky The PS3 is too overrated The PS4 is too hot The PS5 is too frozen Now, the PS6 is too dry Edit: Y'all are still complaining about me saying PS3 was overrated, but it's true. You want a good console, go to the Xbox 360. I used both for years.
This disc is unable to be played on the console due to a region lock policy, standby. It means to get a ‘japanese’ PS1. The last attempt to play the game was because it probably ran in safe mode.
This comment section has taught me that Japanese is more freeform with its kanji/hiragana/katakana combinations than I thought. There's like 5 translations here and there could be more. I'm not complaining though, in fact, I think it's kinda cool actually.

That’s a warning generally implemented into PAL PS1 games only, probably because piracy/bootlegging was an issue in certain PAL countries like Russia at the time
A semi-literal translation of the Japanese: “Forced termination. There is a concern that the console was modified.” 強制 - Compulsion, Forcing to do 終了 - Termination, End しました - Did 本体 - Body, Main part of a computer (console) が - Subject marker 改造 - Remodeling, Modding (computer sense) されている - Was done (not a perfect literal translation due to the differences in the Japanese progressive tense vs the English one.) おそれ - Fear, Conern が - Subject marker あります - Exists, Is
If you mix everything together, it reads: "The software termination is forced. It's concerned that the console was modified." I think I got it from the rough translation, following the literal sense. If I'm wrong, correct me.
@@inqmusician2 That's basically it. I would just write the first line as the "the software was force-closed" as a more literal translation. 強制 and 終了 are stuck together to form an almost compound like word. I would've written "the software termination is forced" as 「ソフトウェアの終了は強制です」. It's worth noting that there's also no mention of software in the original language due to the player already understanding what you're talking about from context. English by contrast is a very context-light language, so the inclusion of "software" is necesarry. The second line more literally translates to "A concern that the console is modified exists." or "There is a concern that the console is modified." Just so you know I could be completely off base here, my Japanese isn't very good at all so take anything I say with quite a bit of salt 😅
While playing on an emylator, this happens on some psx ISO's, like Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories ( At the Konami Screen ) and Medievil II ( At the mid-game level: Whitechapel ). I had to download from other sites so that I could play these childhood games.
The PS1 is too misunderstood. The PS2 is too much of a geometric shape. The PS3 is too PHAT. The PS4 is too hot. The PS5 is too unknown. The PS6 is too much of the same as the PS5 The PS7 (AD) is too much leaked on the internet.
You Are A Absolute Legend. I Cannot Believe That You Have A Copy Of "Doko Demo Issyo" On The Playstation One. I Wish I Had That Game For My Playstation 3 Now
0:31 Piracy stuff. "The unauthorised reproduction of all or any part of this product and the unauthorised use of registered trademarks are likely to cobstitue criminal offence. It's hard to get but a way I found was if you use super Metroid and a game genie and insert a code it will trigger it but thear are bad side effects to the code
I didn’t know that dreaded “anti mod-chip” message would appear on the slim PSone console, I thought modchips that countered anti mod-chip code were made when the older models were already out
Yea this was a check many games did, they checked the wobble burned on the disc after it booted as many modchips of the time would still report success code of "SCEA" even after the game loaded while a unmodded console would not
Since the message at 0:31 blinks by quickly, I'll put what it says here: "The unauthorized reproduction of all or any part of this product and the unauthorized use of registered trademarks are likely to constitute criminal offense. PIRACY harms consumers as well as legitimate developers, publishers and retailers. if you suspect this product is an unauthorized copy or have any other information about pirated products, please call your local customer service number given in the manual."
It's really fun to see all the different interpretations and translations in the comments, they all give the same message but are all worded differently.
How this error triggered: Pay attention to the license made from... It says Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. In the bottom it says SCEE instead of SCEI. And its quite a pirated disc.
The error was because of the model of the playstation 1. translation: It has been forcibly terminated. The main body may have been modified. Scph x10 was the model used in this video
What Modification Chip is installed? Is it a regular or a stealth chip? I think you can bypass the Software Terminated Error: Japanese Edition Region Check with a Stealth Modification Chip
My dad told me that he remembered that he got the exact same error as this video at the same game when he was 15 in PSX. My dad gone panicked, he doesn't know what to do when that day so he just stupidly bought another one.
It also happens when you're using PSX 1.13 emulator on some games (eg: RE survivor), the message are in english with black text (which is hard to read) and some kind of phone number ??
