This show has a bizarre personal connection to my life. So when I was four years old, I can remember my parents taking myself and my older two sisters tube sledding on this giant mountain. My memory is spotty, but I clearly remember my near death experience. I was a brave kid, I asked and begged my sister to let me go down on my own. Now keep in mind, these sleds were rubber, circular, and could hold about three people easy. So eventually after so many times of asking, they let me go on my own. I'm kind of skidding down this thing, feeling weird "bumps" as I'm now flying down this mountain before I could realize those bumps were not bumps, that was air that was slowly picking up under the tube, as I got faster and threw me directly on my head and neck going 40 km per hour. I rolled for probably less than five seconds, landed flat on my back and didn't think of anything for a bit. I blinked, realized I was fine, moved a bit and got up. I think I was in shock and just started walking down the mountain, my sister bombing down the hill behind me, I waited for someone (didn't have to be her) to sled down for me to just jump on their tube so I didn't have to walk the whole way. I stuck the landing, we made it down, the day went without a hitch. That night, I can remember being up, it must have been 2am, my sisters took the couches, my parents took the bed, everyone was asleep but I had the TV. You know what was playing? The episode of Samurai Jack when he's fighting the black ninja robot that uses darkness as his ally, so Jack uses the light. That was when, as I was eating the ginger bread cookies I stole from my sisters, staying up late watching Samurai Jack, I said to myself; "Wow, I almost died today".
It hurts, I know. I do love Rick and Morty; Super glad to see it back on track, but I won't be distracted from Jack. Still stoked for ep 4 next week, and looking forward to R&M to continue.
Oh man thanks for getting me to watch this! The ending was amazing! I loved samurai jack as a kid and when I heard it's back I wasn't interested in watching it because I thought it was the same old never advancing plot. Wow. This was something else.
Don't get me wrong, I love Rick and Morty, but it kind of pisses me off that Samurai Jack got completely shafted for a shitty April Fools Joke. I wouldn't mind so much if they kept it on repeat the whole night, but they only kept it on repeat until midnight so Samurai Jack and Dragonball Super were the only shows on Toonami to get screwed over by this. I just think this show deserves more respect than being the butt of a dumb April fools joke.
R CDCMagician , I KNOW RIGHT I MEAN IT'S LIKE THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT JACK'S RETURN FROM A 13 YEAR HAITUS THAT HAD LEFT FANS PLEADING FOR MORE AND KNOW THAT JACK IS BACK THEY GREET HIM BY NOT AIRING THE LONG AWAITED FOURTH CHAPTER OF HIS JOURNEY THEY AIRED THE ABSOULUTE SHIT FEST THATS RICK AND MORTY , YOU KNOW I USED TO LIKE R&M BUT NOW THAT THEY DID THAT I'M PISSED!!!
I was equally enthusiastic about the first 3 episodes, mainly for the same reasons. I still liked the rest, just not as much. Curious if anyone else thought this season was front-loaded with excellence and then dipped a bit in quality.
Mike Schwartz I disagree a little bit, but I get your point. People said the romance was forced but I believe it was well build, Ashi was a really good character and people should know that she knew how to use Aku's powers after using most of those when possesed (still time travel should have been way more difficult to use), maybe we would have needed a montage of how everyone got there so fast or even that Aku spent way too much time selecting an execution for Jack. But even then, with all the mistakes, with all of it, the death of Aku and the ending of the episode were so good that if I had to put a note from 0 to 10 to this season and the whole series... it is simply a masterpiece, it is more that all its parts combined
I liked a lot of the ideas and plot points the later episodes had, but everything felt extremely rushed and, sometimes even half baked, on the way up to those plot points and ideas. I think if they had an additional three episodes to flesh out some of those story arcs and character developments, the show would’ve been absolute perfection. It would’ve even correlated with the length of a typical Samurai Jack Season too! But for what it is, it’s still commendable that the show even reached this level in the first place and did not fall into most of the typical trappings most other continuations/reboots do nowadays (I did think the fan service was a bit heavy handed towards the final few episodes, which has pretty much become the norm with things like this). All and all, the show is still pretty great, but could use a little bit more tidying up to reach what could’ve been one of the most perfect finales to a show in T.V.
"Sometimes when a show comes back after a long there missing some of the elements that made the original so great" Thats how I feel about Dragonball Super.....merely a shadow
1:52 "Long ago in a distant land I Gannon the shape-shifting master of darkness unleashed an unspeakable evil. But a foolish hylian warrior wielding the master sword stood force to oppose me, before the final blow was struck tore open a portal in time and flung him into the future, where my evil is law. Now the fool seeks to destroy me now and undo the future that is Gannon"
The samurai jack video game has a completionist ending. The creators went out to say that this is the canon ending. Whether that matters to you or not idk. I personally just choose what canon I want in a fictional universe (to an extent).
@@ChadKakashi Normally when a show takes a break for whatever reason it's normally to give the animators and the other people working on the show to have a much needed rest. Because the last thing you want is people becoming fatigued or overly stressed which can possibly lead to a slight drop in quality overall
There was a few subtle things that the fight really brought to light. The continutiy that he was trained to use the light, not the darkness. The jumping from Jack Jumps Good, the time he fought the hunters on the ledge like the assassins in season 5, the duel weilding a split spear from the guardian, and perhaps even the Scotsman's signiture spray of bullets from the battle with the Sirens. Honestly, the amount of perhaps accidental continutities from the old show
This makes me so frustrated for western animation. I'm so tired of the same types of animated sitcoms over and over again. Sure, Venture Bros shook things up a bit, but even they fall victim to lazy sex and toilet jokes. Genndy is proving that adult American animation can be successful as beautiful art, not just cheap Family Guy knock offs but I doubt production companies will ever step up.
@@Torganzer may I introduce you to BoJack horseman one of the few adult animated comedies that handles some incredibly mature themes in a beautiful and gut renthcing way
like he said i would honesty just recommend watching the first 3 episodes as the rest of the original series was not continuing a story unlike the new season. not saying the orginal was bad but for your viewing pleasure i would recommend this.(if you want to see some more of the original i suggest taking a quick look at a top ten list and watching those)
Fuvk what nerokeymaster said. Fuck that. Watch the whole damn Series from the start to finish. It starts of a little slow. But damn are these so many good episodes and epic stories in that show. And everyone has their own top ten best episodes of the show. So there's no point in going by their recommendations. Cause there are WAY more than 10 good episodes in that show. Top ten lists don't do it justice. Watch it start to finish to get the full experience.
that's fair too. please do not get me wrong I love the show I'm just saying the story does not continue(for the most part)after episode 3 of the original. if you want to please go watch the whole show just know it won't be a continuing story like gravity falls or some anime
Okay, so I was going to take nerokeymaster's advice and just watch the first 3 episodes of the show before jumping straight into the new ones, but... those 3 episodes were so great, especially for what mahtada described as a slow start, that I need to watch the whole show now. RIP my free time.
+Magnifastard For me Episode 1 was shitty, but then it steadily got better.... MUCH BETTER... until Episode 10 where there was this cliché ending where EVERYONE Jack has encountered before around the globe suddenly attacked Aku even if they only had minutes of preparation time and were spread out AROUND the globe. And the end when Jack went back to the past felt kinda disonnected to me, because AGAIN everyone Jack knew AROUND THE WHOLE GLOBE went to Japan to celebrate Jacks victory and his new found love. I also fucking hate the realization at the end that "Without Aku I could have never existed" and the sudden disappearance of Jacks future wife... I mean.... Seriously? How the hell could a character that never existed survive for weeks in existance and then suddenly disappear when she realizes that she coul not exist? It also didn't help that all of Jacks friends just disappeared and were replaced by those from Season 1 Episode 1....
Keine Ahnung und so... I'd rather it rely on nostalgia, even though i dont think it did, then to shoe horn forced romance and characters into it that dont belong
I did watch it like old-school; waiting for each episode every week. And I cried.....such beauty! This was a real proper send off to one of the most cherished animated characters ever.
S Kwong I hope so, just watched this video and it got myself into the show all over again, about “the best animated show”... have you watched Avatar the last airbender??
Филипп Ломакин desagree strongly, i whatched samurai jack in it’s entirety now, it’s pretty fun, and the last season is incredible, but i think avatar wins for me because of it’s themes, it’s mesages in love forgivness, and the impact of war, etc etc etc... it mostly comes down to preference and nostalgia, i think I also like it a lot because I watched it when i was 12 (Aangs age jn the show) And rewatched it plenty till i was 14 (zuko’ age I believe) so i got to experience the story in a manner I just can’t describe in other way if not unforgettable and very personal
Someone who shares my love of Jack and cares enough to express why everyone needs to be watching it when it airs. Subbed and liked. I also have to beat everyone into watching it and telling them not to wait. It is amazing and you need to see it. This is not a nostalgia trip, it is a character evolution and the amazing finale to the best show on CN.
I stopped partway through this to watch the first ep of the final season, then could only stand to watch the first scene before seeing how truly beautiful this show aims to be and with your promises of laughs and deeper themes, I've started going back and watching the entire series with my boyfriend and my older brother is so happy I'm finally seeing it - Thankya Marcus!
lmao it cracks me up binging all your videos cuz they are all between 3-5 years old and they're all about things I liked/ watched growing up. I remember watching Jack first face those assassins and legit shitting my pants after I seen him get slashed and blood come out. It literally broke my mind cuz in the original(or first season, I don't really know what to address it as technically lol) he would rip through robots and cut em in half and it shows it on screen too. There was never blood, even whenever he got hurt. Then this comes out and he stabs a WOMAN in the neck and then breaks it with the blade, and then shit on the rest. Mannnn this whole show is amazing. Hearing Jack talk more actually makes you feel like you're getting close to a friend you've had for a long time, and they're just now opening up to you lol
I wish the new season could have been 13 episodes so it would have had the same amount as the old seasons. Also i hate that almost all animated shows for adults here in the west must be comedys all the time so annoying that Samurai Jack wont last very long.
CyberLance26 I know how you feel maybe samurai jack season 5 opens some people's eyes so Western cartoons can evolve and not just be crappy comedy's all the time.
Omg the ending to this video with the cartoon network logo that opens and closes with that amazing sound just brought me back to when I was 6 awake before anyone else in my house getting a bowl or cereal and watching This every damn morning this show is a masterpiece
Been watching your channel for a while now and just watched this video. I’m kinda late to the party so I just picked up the box set of the complete series and I’m loving it so far! Thx Marcus
Just watched the second episode of one punch man... Pretty dull, I'm really sad at what the studio is doing with it, then I remembered my cosmonaut friend here telling me to watch some old cartoon that I watched when I was a teen and well, I kinda trust him so I did. Ok, I don't know how, but I managed to stop after the sixth ep to eat. Now that I just finished the show I'm still wiping my tears, I'm broken, this is too good, how is this THIS good? Just thank you man for making me have this wonderful experience, I own it to you, thank you so much!!! And IMO, reading a few comments complaining about the end, idk if it's because I watched the whole thing in one sitting but all ten eps felt good and really special to me, the end really got me, I kinda felt it coming but I was rooting soo much on the inside that it still managed to draw a lot of tears from me. So, I just wanted to thank you, I love your work! PS: after this I'm just droping OPM, there is just no way I can still watch it after seeing this, I really enjoy the manga and intend keep at it, but we seriously need more animations like this and not that garbage.
Mauricio Queiroz its kind of weird cause 2 shows aim for 2 different genres and audience, u cant just compared them like that. I guess u dont like anime or parody? Samurai jack is good. I watched it also bc of this vid. I also agree with u that the ending is great but not among the greatest. PS: its funny cause the every time i listened to a friend or a cousin of mine to watch animes, its usually bad or average. And every animes i love they hate it or dont even know that it exist (like how they dont know “gurren lagann” but love shitty “love live” wtf?)
@@duyngo7697 I love animes and parodies, and I just loved OPM season 1, im talking about the absurd drop in quality from season 1 to 2 and how incredibly was the anination quality from Jack's last season
I agree with him 100%. Networks relay on ratings to determine its popularity. And they also relay on Merchandise sales to fund future cartoon shows. This series may not continue ager this but by purchasing the DVDs, iTunes, GooglePlay, or RU-vid episodes online, that will show networks that these are the kinds of tv shows and cartoons we want; and hopefully encourage them to make more on the future. Because God knows we haven't had a decent action cartoon since 2011.
I knew that Ashi would just been demoted to a plot device to complete the story. Still fantastic animation, but I did not like Ashi from the get go. If anything, I would think that of the people Jack saved. One of them would have gotten off their ass sooner to help pull Jack out of his depression. Heck, A Spartan, the Scotsman or general figures that he did in life could have come forth. Or how Scaramousche became comic relief. Than the series using more creative characters than just referencing older episodes. There is a difference of using nostalgia effectively or just for the pandering factor. Something that I wished was explored? What if instead that Jack had to build his own time portal? As of how difficult it was to do so, it give Jack reason to go around to various people he met to get the ingredients. So in a way, Jack has a reason to interact and see the impact he had in life. A special Jem from the dog archeologists. An energy source from what the robots can pull. Ancient powers that the Woolies can summon a god to help tell Jack of what he needed. Shit like that. The show is fantastically animated but Ashi just dragged the show down for me.
You know what? You should read "Dice: The Cube that Changes Everything". It's one of those hidden gems that slowly cranks the story up and somehow always manages to top what has come before it. You'd love it!
Regarding the show don't tell thingy: I feel like this is THE BEST way to end Samurai jack. We do not just see a timeskip presented on the screen, we WENT THROUGH the timeskip WITH Jack. It's amazing, because we can feel every emotions Jack does , wandering the dystopian future for dozens of years just as we have waited for this final season since 13 years ago .Samurai Jack hasn't just told a story, it's taken us on a quest with Jack through its vast and beautiful universe. And I am very much looking forward to the finale of this season, the end of a 13 year long journey
You had me at hello! My life got crazy lately and I actually FORGOT that this beautiful thing was happening! 😲 I know, what are you gonna do? Well, what I'm gonna do is f'in watch this show!!! THANK YOU again! You are down 1 more out of your requested thousand! 😉#yourock
Its real, watch it. Its good. Its like... really good. Im not shitting you. Watch the first episode and you'll see how "not shitting you" we are. Its fucking awesome. Im not fucking joking here man, I know it seems like Im building this up for the sake of sarcasm, but ITS REALLY FUCKING GOOD AND ITS PISSING ME OFF THAT I CANT SAY HOW GOOD IT IS BECAUSE ITS APRIL FOOLS AND YOU'LL THINK THAT IM MESSING WITH YOU IM NOT MESSING WITH YOU ITS THE BEST THING TO COME OUT IN ANIMATION SINCE THE AMAZING WORLD OF GUMBALL!!!!
MY FUUUUUUUUCK . You sold me on this so hard i skipped one of your videos to not get spoilers! I live in South Africa and am one of the few black, female hardcore anime, gamer, comic geek and basically all things awesome fans. Imma stream this and get my brothers to stream this even though it's low-key/high-key really late. LOVE your videos SO MUCH!
I had seen the first episode, but didn't know only two more had come out since then so now I'll catch up. And yeah, the visual storytelling is incredible.
I watched this video yesterday and finished all of samurai Jack season 5 asap. My only regret, is not being a fan of this show when I was younger. 10/10, thank you for the recommendation. I agree with the comments, you should put out a video now that the series is over.
I have to wait to watch, I'm usually stuck at work wen its on, and I don't have cable. but I drove 6 hours on the weekend it premiered to watch it at my moms house. totally worth it.
When I was smaller than the the age I am currently in, I used to love the show to point where I recall a memory of jumping on the couch with a family friend and shouting out, "SAMURAI JACK!", while the show was playing.
watched this video almost 2 years too late. I would've made the commitment to watch the series on a weekly basis had I seen this video when you released it. keep up the good work!
The second trailer for war of the planet of the apes. the 'apes, together, strong' timed with the girl raising her fists mimicking maurice the orangutan gives me chills every time i see it. I also loved the music of the first rogue one trailer. The overwatch cinematic trailers are all spectacular, as are the kotor cinematics..
I know its been like two years sins this video came out but I would love to here your opinion on the rest of the show sins your the reason I when back to watch it anyways, but I understand if you don't want to make a video because you where disappointed with the episodes after the third one.
This is the stuff I woke up to in the morning. Samurai Jack andThe Mighty Bee. Then at night I switched to El Tigre and Pink Panther. I really miss those shows
The first time I had heard of this show was when season 5 first came out and there was all the hype, and I didn't really care for it because I knew nothing about it. But then I watched this video out of curiosity and now I'm in love with this show. I've seen season 5 and now I'm watching the original seasons. Legit this is one of the most beautifully animated shows that I have ever seen, I love this show so much. Thank you for getting me interested and willing to watch this
