It speaks volumes that I finished season one before I took a break, and when I returned I wasnt sure if I had already seen it so i watched it again to catch up. I forgot the entire first season, within ~4 months
Considering I remembered twists and turns in The Clone Wars half a decade since I watched it and I remember close to nothing from Rebels even though I watched it much, much later than I watched the Clone Wars is a pretty big indicator of quality.
Did you also forget The Mandalorian? Because if Rebels is bad, then The Mandalorian is 20 times worse. This video is too extreme, it takes everything out of context. If we take what he's saying, then we gotta take it for all the series.
I stand by my point that especially the first season of rebels is extremely forgettable, while at least personally I really enjoyed the first Season of the Mandalorian. I do really enjoy the later seasons of Rebels. Its one of those unfortunate series that get a lot better as they age but that makes it hard for one to recommend it to friends
23:44 He does not change into Alec Guiness's pose. He's actually adopting Qui Gon's battle stance. It's a gambit to lure Maul, who is a character entirely driven by what happened on the day he lost to Obi Wan and who's most salient flaw is his pride, to attempt the same moves that worked on his master. So when he goes for the hilt bash to the face, Obi Wan is ready for it and promptly kills him.
@@maxrebo2466 why does it make a difference how old it is? It doesn't change what was said, nor the message made to the viewers. It also doesn't change how people feel about the show or the video so of course they will still argue.
14:02 "[Sabine] couldn't be more Mary Sue unless she was also force-sensitive" Sabine from the Ahsoka series: "Hello there." Though, to be fair to the Sabine from the Ahsoka series, they make her so fucking incompetent she stops feeling like a Mary Sue.
I think what they could’ve done to IMPROVE the Grand Inquisitor would be to have the Grand Inquisitor defeat Ezra and Kanan in every encounter, with each following encounter slowly going more in the Jedis’ favour due to them learning, but everytime before the Grand Inquisitor can actually finish them off, he’d get attacked by a Rebel squadron and be forced to retreat It would’ve been a better way to explain two unskilled Jedi constantly escaping the second deadliest mf in the Empire’s ranks time and again
@@devildelirious8662 we’re only 3 episodes in, mind, but it’s barely scratched the plot. I have a feeling it’s going to be like Obi-Wan where it probably would have made a better movie. The pacing is slow, we’ve barely scratched the surface of the plot, and the character motivations aren’t really there. Like, why does Ahsoka want to find/stop Thrawn? (Besides the obvious, he’s the big bad, but what’s her personal stake in this, why does this motivate her?) Why does Sabine want to be a Jedi? Is it to feel closer to Ezra? If so, they haven’t said that yet. It’s an odd show, and as Marcus correctly points out in his commentary, Sabine has enough going on in Rebels, she didn’t need to add Jedi Padawan to the list. (And that’s not even getting into what the show is implying about who can become a Jedi……)
About Obi Wan's pose in the Maul fight, I'm pretty sure his changed pose isn't supposed to mimick Sir Alec Guiness' pose, but rather bait Maul into an agressive start because Qui Gon started his fight against Maul that way. So Maul tried the very trick he killed Qui Gon with on Obi Wan, but of course Obi Wan was prepared. This makes it even better IMO
Nothing can make this crap better in any way. Darth Maul, one of the greatest villains of star wars and one of the most dangerous men in the galaxy, gets his ass whopped in one second by a man he knew and hated for his entire life. Watch TCW, Maul and Kenobi are equally capable, and suddenly Obi wins the fight with no effort for absolutely no reason and with no explanation. Is terrible. Maul was just wasted in one random episode of a dumb kiddo show without even having a proper end fight.
I dunno, you'd think it'd be a fairly obvious trap to Maul. The fact that he was not only caught off-guard by it, but killed instantly, was super weak.
@@joalitionstatus8368 You say that but why is it that nearly every piece of Star Was media uses the thicker lightsabers over the thinner design? Heck didn’t they even edit the thin designs in the OG?
They follow like clans, following the strongest and sometimes the smartest Mandolorian amongst them. But following by royalty just makes them like any other humanoid race.
Evan Light I also hate that they made seem like they were just an Aryan-looking race in TCW and I know they kinda fixed it in Rebels. The first Mandalorians were the Taung species who followed the strongest wisest among them but as time passed they accepted other who craved battle and the Mandalorians became a cultural identity. Anyone, be it Twi’lek, Sullustan or whatever the fuck Unkar Plutt is, with a penchant for combat and caring for family and friends can be Mando. That's what I love about them. So far Disney hasn't fucked them up completely and I hope to Kad Ha’rangir they do The Mandalorian show justice.
Unfortunately all the information we had on the Mandolorians (Outside the films, and CW) is no longer cannon so.... The writers have more creative freedom to do whatever they want.
@@paulrietveld9837 dude I’m self aware of that 😂😂 that’s the literal point I’m making… If he sees Ahsoka now and realizes that what he said about her becoming a Jedi came to fruition he would just be like “see I told you so” 😂
@@beanbag_37it is obviously set up. Why would the writers show her trying all the time. In the last episode she will use the force to change the course of the battle or something.
I completely agree with you on the first two season. As the last two came, I did come to appreciate it. I did like how Ezra struggled and finally made his decision to choose light in the last season. Kanan and his death was big hit and was a real sacrifice. He showed what a true Jedi would be in those times. Most of the crew I could do without and be happy if they weren’t there but then grew to care for them. Mauls death was so beautiful as he came to peace with his fate. I care that Ezra is lost and we still don’t know what happened to him as well as Thrawn. I really hope they don’t mess up Ezra character in Ashoka.
To be fair though, cool as she is Hera is WAAAY below Thrawns level, Star Wars and Timothy Zauhn wrote a character who's smarter than their capability to write, so they have to bring him to Rebels level, which for the threat he could be us a complete waste of Thrawn. He needed a team writing him for a movie. Not to be a cartoon villian in a kids show
Vader: Luke, I am your father Luke: K see ya *grabs lightsaber and flies the heck away* Edit: Guys, I know it's "No, I am your father" and that Luke had already lost his lightsaber by then. I've seen the movie multiple times, just trying to make a joke here. No need to nitpick anymore. Please.
I sortive understand why Kanan got over his pre-conceptions of the clones a little quicker than expected. The problem is that he's mentoring Ezra. But, he's actually not teaching him just how to be a Jedi... also how to be a just man. Ezra was being mentored as a teenager. He can't possibly learn the ways of the Jedi the same way Kanan did since Ezra has already developed emotions and easily develops connections with others. If Kanan keeps his negative emotions on the clones, its possible that Ezra can also learn to hate. Kanan needed to overcome this in order to be a positive example to Ezra.
See this actually does make sense I just owe he they would show stuff like this that actually has to do with why the characters make decisions. Otherwise it just feels random and out of place
Did anyone who was a main character actually die from Order 66 tho? I mean sure, some of them later became main characters in the Clone Wars, but when George decided to kill them in Ep III, they were just a couple of folks just chillin in the backgroud and asking about droid attacks on the wookies
there's literally no main characters in the movies, you'd think anakin is the main character, but no. its not him, its truly nobody. everyone serves a purpose so the victims of order 66 were not the main characters. this is just my opinion, if you have a different one, feel free to reply.
I like that they just threw this kid Jedi into canon who, before Luke even held a lightsaber: - Met Obi-Wan - Spoke to Yoda about the force - Saw footage of Anakin - Met R2 and C3P0 - Helped Leia stick it to the Empire - Helped Lando on some lame adventure I can't remember - Fought alongside Ahsoka - Fought alongside Captain Rex - Encountered Vader a few times (and lived) - Faced Maul (and lived) - Spoke to the f***ing Emperor Like who is this kid and why does he seem to be the center of the universe? Between him and Rey, why do the Skywalkers even fucking matter anymore?
Don't forget Ahsoka, she's just as bad, just better written. The only thing that seems to make Luke the last hope for the Jedi and the rebellion is because Ahsoka was fucking off on Malachor while Ezra was fucking off with Thrawn and space whales during the OT. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Ahsoka should've had her head chopped off by Vader, but because she's Dave Filoni's OC he had to resort to literal time travel in order to save her, now she just wanders around getting shoved into nearly every Star Wars show since. And Ezra should've been gunned down by Stormtroopers in the first episode
Because people matter beyond what they can do for you. OBVIOUSLY. Does your family not matter more than most people simply because you love them? Did we not meet and fall for the OG characters first? This is drama, not sports. Meeting other powerful characters doesn’t diminish our feelings at all. Shame on you for thinking otherwise.
@@nagger8216Luke’s the last hope because it’s his FATHER. OBVIOUSLY. Goes back to the original themes of father/son conflict. And then he has the experience. Ahsoka’s not the last hope when she’s no longer a Jedi. The only adjustment that could have happened was to make Leia necessary to Anakin’s redemption too, but you know, space Gods forbid the 70s/80s give women a priority and offend weak ass dudebros. Filoni didn’t “resort” to Time Travel. If it exists in that world, it’s an acceptable possibility. It sets up the heartbreaking reality that Ezra wants to save Kanan and can’t, which is something all of us who have been through grief desperately wish for. Especially when you’re a kid and your parental figure dies. I’ve been there. It wasn’t “resorting” to anything.
Matt TheDestroyer 2 it’s not that they’re skinny it’s that they don’t have enough glow around them but I know what you mean that’s bothered me since episode 1

@@pierogavancho7087 don't quote me on this but I think the reason for that was since he took the identity of a mandalorian he can't let other people take his helmet off or see him without it but a mandalorian can take it off and be seen with out it because they were always a mandalorian.
I loved the show, but I just wish the rebels weren't so OP. The stormtroopers had terrible aim as usual, and the rebels' weapons and ships seemed somewhat overpowered. I would have liked things to have been a bit more balanced. The easiest way to achieve this is just to make the rebel groups larger and more powerful, so at least it would appear more realistic when they're able to decimate entire fleets. Many of the action sequences involved the rebels shooting scores and scores of stormtroopers all while not suffering any losses themselves. It's a somewhat minor tweak that involves better fight choreography and simply better details. The ending was somewhat underwhelming - I would have loved to see a full-scale invasion of Lothal rather than summoning some space whales.
The absolute best thing that came out of this show was the conclusion of Darth Mauls story. His last moments with Kenobi were everything this character deserved, and over all they did him justice in this show. His loneliness and emptiness and his constant desire for companionship were portrayed really well and I was really sattisfied with seeing how they handled his character, after watching clone wars as a kid and being a major Maul enjoyer.
I tried watching this 2 years ago. It didnt work, but I did tell my friends that it was just space Aladdin for episode one. They got so defensive, but it is so true.
I wish his character was a bit cooler but he grows from annoying teen to slightly less annoying teen. Plus fuck y’all racists what’s wrong with a space Aladdin every other shitty Jedi is white or a alien except mace the one colored Jedi. Lmao Lucas is so racist low key making aliens based around stereotypes and accents of real humans. This show isn’t bad not as amazing as clone wars but enjoyable
@@shaun12594 It's not bad that he's space Alladin except that it's kinda lazy and racist for Disney to recycle a POC character concept so directly. ACtually Starwars the clone wars was not at the end at the best ... THere was more action and bum bumm ... Star wars the clone wars was at its best in the middle, when we saw our characters grow after knwoing them already, when it showed politics and at how the people suffer in the conflicted... The hole mandalorine thing was ok to good, but got boring pretty fast ... And the hole darth maul arc a little to much, should have endet with darth sidious killing him, if not before ... When it showed new aspects of the world like the clone academy and the outposts of the republic... By the way am the only one that wished for a ashoka tano - Anakin lovestory ... Padma and Anakin just doesnt work for me ... THe problem of Rebels for me is just that is boring and the animation looks kind of sterile... Also why watch something you dont like, because it says Star wars on ? Bah ... And i agree the characters have no character ... I must say that i like the idea of new more star wars the clone wars, but i must say that the series got also a little boring at the end. THough i liked the 66 chip arc ... But the problem is we already know what will happen and the writers just didnt have anything new ... MAybe after this long break they have a fresh breath air, since it is annouced to start again this year or next ... One problem i noticed is that some characters shouldnt reapper or just die since they are not giving anything new ... I had enought General grivous gets captured or cornered but escapes ...
The IG-100 kicks major ass. You can use it in space, on vertical surfaces. It's one of the most iconic Clone Wars vehicles, right next to the troop transports, the Star Destroyers and the AT-RT's.
Man rebels is honestly one of my favorites somehow. Just so many things I love about it, but I understand the criticisms and agree with many of them, I guess the pay off just made it worth it for me personally. I wish you could get the same out of it dude! To each their own!
I started my rewatch back in late April, and I'll admit I loved Seasons 2, 3 and 4 a lot, but most episodes from Seasons 1 and felt like they left a lot to be desired. The Empire also didn't feel like much of of an threat, just Metal Gear Solid guards. Thrawn, Vader, Tarkin, Kallus and Saxon were the rare exceptions but the rest of the army felt like chumps without a grip on the Empire until Thrawn came along. Pretty good show as a whole but it had A LOT of issues.
@@thelegendaryhusquin9906 hahaha the empire always kinda sucks tho. When is it ever competent 😂 but yes absolutely agreed! Season 1 is a bit of a slow burn for me.
@@FlorasMori Honestly I loved the entire series I can see why people might not be as into the first season. As it doesn't have to many of the bigger pieces that are well known like Rex, Maul, Thrawn, Ahsoka. But that was because they had to focus on the original cast of characters and flesh them out first. I still really love the final arc of season 1 with Vader hunting the Jedi. As well as the final fight between Kanan and the Grand Inquisitor. But yea people complaining about the Empire sucking in Rebels clearly never realized that the Empire always sucked. Like the Rebels weren't anymore powerful in the original trilogy yet they were able to defeat the Empire blow up 2 Death Stars. And be completely overwhelmed by small teddy bears.
@@FlorasMori Thats nonsence. Go and rewatch Star Wars 4, the movie begins with stormtroopers capturing a rebel ship. In Empire strikes back, the rebels suffer a brutal defeat by snowtroopers and walkers. The Empire always was a threat, they never were supposed to be bumbling idiots that get their asses whopped by teenagers.
the animation is also REALLY bizarre. It's like the opposite problem that a show like Nicks TMNT has, where that shows animation is really snappy and jerky like it's stop motion or something, this shows animation is way too smooth. Like it takes 500 million frames of animation for a character to say a single word or something.
benjamin ferrer Clone Wars looks like they animated paintings of graphic novels. Characters are stylized, yes. Rebels looks like a toddler comic animated--everyone has round, stupid faces with huge eyes and gaping mouths
That “What If?” on the Twin Sons episodes hits harder when you realize Dave Filoni originally wanted Maul to be haunted in the desert by visions of Savage and Satine but he scrapped the idea because he didn’t want to “confuse” viewers who had only seen Rebels
That makes no sense, Dave Filoni didn't want to confuse people who only watch rebels. Star wars rebels is a sequal to TCW. Its like watching Stars wars ANH and TESB, you have to watch the first movie or you will not understand the second one. I know i sound like a angry stars wars fan and i mean i do. But after watching TCW I would have loved to see something like that.
Why don't they just have Starkiller instead of those dumb inquisitors, or better yet Vader should be the only one going around the galaxy killing jedi survivors.
SPOILERS At least they made it so cal was actually afraid of Vader, Vader was beating them, they didn't kill Vader and it pays more respect to stars wars

I am only in the middle of season 3 but I really hope that there is a scene where he gets viciously murdered.
I agree with you on everything, but I don't think the poor quality was due to the writers getting lazy. We can see that because the mandilorian was another show made by the same people under the disney umbrella and that turned out to be great. I think its mostly due to them being forced into making the show, and the fact that most of the original team was leaving. George Lucas was gone, as well as a bunch of other Clone Wars creators when Disney bought star wars, so that might have proven difficult for the remaining team (and you can defiantly see that in s1) The other reason is probably the team being forced into an incredibly restrictive kids story that the writers, quite simply, didn't want to tell. They were probably a lot more interested in finishing the Clone Wars story line, the story that actually means something to them, which is why they brought in Maul and Ahsoka. And its not like they didn't try to make interesting characters, you can see that in several episodes, but it just all falls flat bc there's no passion behind it, and there so restricted in what they can actually do before disney veto's it. And the clone wars wasn't face with cancellation until after season 5 was made, not throughout its entire runtime. Or at least thats what I heard
Mando's writing was already getting pretty damn lazy starting in Season 2, and now in Season 3 its genuinely near unbearable. Idk if its a good example to rebute his point with- if anything it might just prove how quality decline from laziness and reliance on references is a real phenomenon
@@sargeward8184 Season 2 of Mando has the best writing of the show what are you on about. And the writing of mando is not the strong point of the show it is as simple as you get.

Obi-Wan's stance in the Maul duel was mimicking Qui-Gonn's stance; he was trying to (and succeeded) bait Maul into attempting the same maneuver he used on Qu- Gonn.
Nah man look at that pose he holds with the lightsaber pointing up, parallel to his body, handle about shoulder height. It’s EXACTLY what Qui-Gon does before Maul gives him a belly piercing. It was pretty clearly planned that way.

What are you talking about? No one in ROTS that got killed in Order 66 was a "main character". The main characters were Anakin, Obi-wan, Palpatine and Padme. Everyone else was a side character.
Yeah, they even brought it back in the Disney+ season when Dauth Maul tears off a peice of a Star ship's interior, uses it to block a bunch of lasers and FUCKING THROWS IT AT A FEW STORM TROOPERS TO CUT THEIR HEAD'S OFF! Not even with his lightsabre! Its gruesome, and threatening like it's supposed to be!
