I like how Ariah toned the canvas from light to dark in the foreground. Really smart to have richer, darker warm tones show through up in front to push back the background. Your greens really pop in the water. Nice palette.
I saw you painting yesterday at the beach and was too shy to say hi but you two are incredible painters and I absolutely adore your channel! Happy new year and happy birthday Ariah! :-)
Again, great explaination while you are painting. Enjoy your close-ups during the painting. Again. Thanx so much!!! Wish you the best this year! Greetings from the south of Holland
I like the burnt sienna purple combo in the rocks and the white smacking right into it. Great bright feeling. I also like how you don't over do the rocks too... "just say what you want to say, and get out"
Beautiful paintings Michael and Ariah (happy birthday). Loved the yellow toning on Ariah’s and it looked like the whites of the clouds on yours were tinted lavender - gorgeous.
Michael the cloud and sky tones with how you leave space for the lighted cloud areas was very interesting. I thought the yellow wash Aria used for his sky area is an interesting idea to try get some luminosity under your sky tones...you should give that a try, I will. Great lesson thankyou 😉
Very nice composition The speed , certainty, ease, natural self evidency ( ánd still accuracy !) and liveliness with which you work is truly phenomenal and stunning Thanks for posting this Mike; Happy NYear ! I think ... maybe this here work would have more... unity and would (still) be móre convincing if the light in the sky matched more the light on the sea ?!? ( Maybe some "silver lining" ... or/and maybe even the setting sun itself Would love to see you experiment and "play around" with this idea: what do you think ?) Very nice clouds btw; loved how you cut off the highest one: perfect compo !
Perfect spot for potential buyers too. I've sold one still wet once and had to come back to the same spot , the next day , to paint the scene again for someone else. A good day that. Would love to see an exhibition of paintings done by some of your loyal followers some day. Any plans for something like that Mike ? Your a "giver" man. Power to you .
Since getting to chat a little and enjoy your work and process Mike , whenever I go to our Wild West Coast beaches I always find an angle or pier or wave slashed rock outcrop I wonder if you'd enjoy tackling them ? Not all at once , of course !!! Hwyl
Ariah and I share a birthday! Happy Birthday Ariah! What a wonderful day to paint and a really nice outcome. I find lately that I am anticipating your moves within the process now Michael. I can think of what you're going to next in your painting. I'm not 100% right of course, but it is interesting to be able to "paint along with you." Both pieces are excellent. I love seeing the two perspectives and styles of the same scene. It's really enlightening. I look forward to the new year. Happy New Year to you, and Ariah too.
Wow very beautiful painting Mike, Ariah's painting is also very good. It's true you don't always start painting the sky like he did but I guess it's because the light on the water is changing so radically you focus there first. I could never start a painting by the foreground lol...I always do the sky first. Well have a wonderful 2022, full of success and health! Cheers!
Thanks Martin! I sometimes start with the sky, but not very often. I usually work from dark to light so the sky is often last. Wishing you a happy and healthy 2022 as well!
chamberlainpaintings Thanks Mike! Yes the dark to light I do it too, but after the shadows are set I go from backgroud to foreground, I use the light from the sky to set the values on the groud if that makes sense.
Great stuff , You are inspiring me to get out and paint plain air , looks like fuel pump on my car has a fault so difficult to get out but when repaired I will be taking my art to beach, very hot here in New Zealand at this time a few swims to cool off also will be enjoyable .God Bless
Mike, I've envious you can go outside and paint - this video was just posted yesterday - and I"m in Maine where it's 21 degrees and expected to be even colder tomorrow. Brrrr.. How often do you paint indoors, and under what conditions (rainy day, good detailed photograph, etc)?
HI Michael, first off: best wishes for 2022! Great vid as usual! Makes me want to get out there also but I'm finding myself doing most of my painting indoors in this season... Just wondering: could you do a timer or something alongside your plein air painting? I'm curious to see how long the various phases take you. Thanks for sharing.
Thank Mike! I don't think a timer would work because there are too many shots. It would be an editing nightmare lol. It usually takes about 10 mins for the sketch, 10-20 mins for block in, and then the rest is spent refining. Most paintings take about 2 hrs. total. If the drawing is complicated it can take a bit longer.
@@chamberlainpaintings no worries, thanks for the breakdown. That's quick painting! Impressive! I need to focus more on efficiency and not piddling around in details. Love your work man.
@@chamberlainpaintings I grew up in So Cal. Moved to No Cal and went to college. Love your teaching and your paintings. If we were richer we would collect you. I hope that you are doing well $$. You are a good person and a great artist. Good surfing too.
Two painters - variety plein air A scene of arresting glare Luminous darks, sand green and orangey Tide coming in requires some dexterity Check out Patreon, click link for more It’s the way to “stay creative” than ever before 🌊 ☀️ Ariah’s use of brushwork and paint is so creative in this one. The colors and the way he captured the light is amazing. The technique you used of leaving little areas unpainted works spectacularly in this painting. I am repeating myself, but it is amazing. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Thanks for sharing! Peace and love..Suz What ☮️💛
I’ve always been obsessed with paintings, but I never thought I could do it. You make it look so easy I might give it a shot! Beautiful scene! Hopefully, someday, I’ll get to purchase one of your works. Happy new year, Mr. Chamberlain! Lots of love from Brazil 🤍
