Short video review and operation of a Precision Mathews 1440E-LB lathe.
Please find their new website here at www.precisionmatthews.com/ for current pricing and availability. I have no affiliation whatsoever other than I'm a customer.
First off, I'm not a machinist by trade. This is a relatively new hobby for me. I messed up a few of the descriptions and and names of individual parts and controls, sorry. LOL, it's hard to remember all of the parts when filming by yourself. Anyway, please read the owner's manual and do some research if you plan on purchasing one of these lathes. Do not go by my word as the be-all end-all. For example I said the tailstock has 4" of travel when in reality it's 3". The purpose of the video was to give someone an idea of the controls, layout, and super basic idea of operation of this particular machine. When truly operating the lathe, I observe all of the safety rules and familiarize myself with the operation I need to complete before doing it. It's much harder to explain how all of this works in a short video.
I can't say enough good about this machine. It's not loud, everything works as designed, and it's an excellent value. The fit and finish isn't perfect, but it's not bad either. I bought it to use it, not put it on display. Of the projects I've completed on it, it easily handled it and did it smoothly to boot. I'm still learning about the use and capabilities of the included Easson DRO. It's very handy to have.
