My mother-in-law planted all of hers after Xmas and they too grew huge quickly, up to the window sill. Leaves turned all bright green. I forget if they turned back to red at Xmas. She lived in Palm Desert. Always love your videos and your house was gorgeous with Xmas. Happy New year to you!

Just came back from a trip to Mexico. I saw several homes with Poinsettia TREES in their home patios! They were about 6 ft tall and fully bloomed. I never thought they would grow that tall or look that beautiful. Thanks for your tips!

In the house i grew up in Cuba we had a poinsettia tree. My great grandfather planted it. Over there we know them as “matas de pascua”. The patio looked so beautiful this time of the year because of this tree. Im going to take your advices and plant the store bought one my mom gave me last week. Thanks

Thank you for this video. I just got a bunch for $1.98 Home Depot and I am propagating some branches but plan on keeping them year-round. I am planning on covering them maybe with thick black trash bags instead of moving them. I really want them to turn into little mini trees. One of them has the branch cut and it looks like old wood on the bottom so I am very hopeful for that one. I’m just trying my best not to overwater. I added a lot of perlite just in case.

When you said about just not letting even a sliver of light to touch the plant during the rest perion i realised why half of my pkant is not much colored up while the rest is pretty advanced. It a dact that we have a light in the verandah right above the plant, a part of it remains shaded but the rest is is in light l night long since i put up the light every night. 😅thank you for rhe lovely guide. My plant is doing fantabulous ! It is more than 4 ft high(no kidding), right next to our verandah . And my mom loves it soo soo much. Merry Christmas! 😍😘

Where in Florida? I live in Tallahassee and it gets quite cold and even if they do make it out in the landscape, they don't really flower. At least their flowers don't redden completely. Either way, I will attempt to fertilize and "cover" to coax them into flowering next late fall and winter season.

Great video! I knew that getting them to bloom again is a lot of work, but worth it. If you just want it to keep growing without the red foilage just don't keep it in the dark. I had one last year and forgot to water it just once and it died. I'm going to try again this year because they are such a pretty plant. Thank you Laura for all the info on how to care for these beautiful plants. See you in the next video.

I'm in Canada and my poinsettia turned red all on her own in November. She was sitting in a north facing window all year. I was so happy I didnt need to fuss with putting her in a closet. I guess it just the type of light further north gets that helped trigger the change.

I got a new variety this year called Green with Envy. Its colored leaves are really bright chartreuse green. I have a dwarf variety that I've had for about six years. I never give it a dark period and yet it re-reds every year. In the summer, I prune it and put it outside in a filtered sun area.

it has the i in the pronunciation. I live in Greenville Sc and that is where the original hot houses were set up by John Roberts Poinsett. He was ambassador to Mexico by President Madison. We have a famous hotel that is beautiful called the Poinsett Hotel. So it may be regional for pronunciation but the correct way to pronounce it is to make it 4 syllables and have that i in there.

Always enjoy your lovely, helpful videos!! I did the darkness technique with a box this year. I did get good color on the tops of all branches in about a month starting in Oct & ending in early Nov. And I was really good about 12 hours of darkness or more - making sure that it had at least 6 hours of light. But I was very sloppy about my cover & uncover times. Maybe I was just lucky - but it wasn't as regimented as I thought - but yes - still time consuming. After wanting to do the process for so long - glad I did it. But I did break two branches - it got too big for the box & I should have cut it back before. And unfortunately it has lost most of it's lower leaves by now - but I don't think it is a water problem - I suspect a spider mite problem - which I just coated it with a homemade horticultural oil blend. Unless, you think that me doing the darkness for a month instead of 2 would cause lower leaf drop? I would appreciate any comments from you regarding this & how you cope with spider mites & if you ever had them on Poinsettias. But in any case MERRY CHRISTMAS, & wish MANY BLESSINGS FOR YOU & YOUR FAMILY IN 2019!!
