lol, i forgot about that. I guess he could teach it Strength, but...yea. Isn't there also something like if a pokemon at a higher level than 100 gains any experience, it will just revert back to level 1 or something?
@@iamlorddems3859 When I catched a lvl 146 Wartortle (Something around this) and it leveld up, the level was 100. Only used the classic cinnabar glitch next to the arena
@@AdmiralKnusperbacke Ahh, ok, yeah, it looks like i might have been thinking about what happens when you give a rare candy to a pokemon that's lvl 255
And Seismic Toss also hits Ghosts despite being Fighting type. And no level-based or strictly fixed attacks (Sonicboom, Seismic Toss, Bide, Night Shade, Psywave, Dragon Rage) take type weaknesses or advantages into account.
PSA: to use Missingno. early like he was attempting here and keep it from turning into a Rhydon, all you need to do is register Cubone in the Pokedex. This would require doing a separate ditto trick to encounter a Cubone as I think you can only get one normally using the silph scope in lavender tower.
@@strange17 Ah, for some reason I thought every encounter was the same unknown spirit that your pokemon is too scared to battle until you get the scope and can identify them?
@@solgaleo3533 That's a good point. Though it raises the question if that trainer is skippable. It seems that a lot of people must skip the trainer if this glitch happens often... Still good to know though.
The missingno glitch actually has a secret hidden extra step. Missingno will always turn into Rhydon unless you have completed one of a few certain conditions, one of which is to register Cubone in the Pokedex... I don't know why Cubone of all pokemon, but it's a thing.
@@Kali_Krause Failure to answer the question.... Classic. I know that the flag is set for Cubone. What seems to have escaped you is the question of what is reason why it is specifically Cubone and not a different pokemon
I would assume that something about Missingno requires you to encounter Cubone because of the internal index number that Cubone occupies... But I don't know the real reason why it has to be a Cubone and not a different pokemon
i mean as smug as your reply to that guy was you actually didn't ask any questions. prehaps learn about punctuation and the use of a question mark before you shoot your trap off.
what's really funny about this is that your use of mew as a physical attacker is actually very accurate to how people use new in RBY Ubers, since it's psychics are resisted by some of the biggest tier threats, and it doesn't learn amnesia, only swords dance, it makes the most sense to make it into a swords dance set up sweeper
@@smithplayspokemon did you discover the save collision glitch for multiple starters (but in this specific case, manipulating your rival's starter) or smth? I feel like such a glitch would be essential for a gen 1 catch em all speedrun since you get 6 more entries w/o trading.
To those of you who are new to the Gengar glitch there is also a special way to make it lvl 100. What you do is a reducing stat move against either the encounter or the trainer battle (cannot remember exactly which one) and each time you do it it will lower the glitch Pokémon’s level by 1. Continue the glitch as normal and once you encounter the Gengar it will be lvl 1. Now in your first battle ensure that the Gengar doesn’t level up and it will automatically glitch out and will level up to lvl 100.
Missingno turned into a Rhydon because it isn't located as "caught" and you will see the pokedex entry. The "caught-pokedex-entry" for Missingno is cubones "seen-pokedex-entry", thus if you saw cubone before, it will still be a Missingno due to the fact, that no Pokedex entry is shown. Missingno from the cinnabar island will not show the pokedex entry because you are forced to fight against a trainer with a cubone in rock tunnel.
Is there a knack to this glitch that I'm missing... do both saves have to be restarted at the right time during saving or just the last save has to be at a specific point? Not sure whether I should be starting from scratch every time or to keep trying from the second save (using gba emulator)
You should try this again, but only use actual glitch Pokemon. I'm talking the one that fuses Pokemon below it together to create unstable hybrids (and creates infinite copies of itself if you're not careful), the ones that can use Super Glitch, the ones that paint sections of the screen very scary colors. It would be awesome to see you struggle with their quirks while exploring their strengths.
The alt forms of Missingno. (Kabutops Fossil, Aerodactyl Fossil and Ghost) all have a unique quality in that they actually have no base stats, starting moves or experience groups assigned to them and take those from the last Pokemon accessed in memory (other than another Special Missingno) which in this case was your Venusaur.
18:39 Fun fact: this is because the Aerodactyl Fossil MissingNo. don't have any stats associated with them, so they just copy the stats of the last Pokemon in the party (besides another MissingNo.), so in this case, it copied Zapdos's stats.
I like how this video could have been a 30 second long video where you just get a level 100 in viridian forest and say "that's it. It sweeps every enemy in the game. See you." Instead it's 26 minutes long and I enjoyed all of it hehehee.
Interestingly, if you repeatedly growl at the slowpoke for the mew glitch, you can make the level of that mew 1. If you level it up with just enough EXP, it instantly becomes level 100, basically beating the game with ease.
20:25 You didn't actually have to worry here, crit rate is determined by the species' base speed in gen1, not the effective speed, so it doesn't take into account DVs or stat modifiers. Also, as I saw mentioned elsewhere in the comments, agility is being used here because of the "good" AI sees that gengar is weak to psychic type moves, so it will always use agility and since trainers' pokemon don't have PP it'll never run out. Can be useful for setting up. Gotta love the gen1 jank.
For anyone wondering, the reason for bide hitting gengar is cause it is technically a set dammage move, like night shade and seismic toss, and in rby those bypass type immunity
When I saw your thumbnail, I got super excited to see you use glitch Pokémon in your video. However I was bummed out when I realized the only glitch Pokémon you used on your team was missingno. The rest of your Pokémon were caught using an extension of the mew glitch. I would love to see a future vid where you just use glitch pokemon! Big Yellow has a great video ranking their viability on his channel
Also if you just use your trainer's name and set the last character to the m/n symbol you can force professor oak to spawn where you surf in cinnabar. You should really watch scykohs glitchquest on these games
In episode 1 of the anime ash show up late and doesn’t get a starter from professor but some how gets a pikachu I thought what am I missing or forgetting.
The Aerodactyl Fossil, Kabutops Fossil, and Ghost MissingNo. don't have consistent base stats, EXP growth type or TM learnsets and instead take this information from the last Pokémon in the player's party. Their starting moves specifically are taken from the last Pokémon whose data the game last referenced. (Source: Bulbapedia) Anyway the point is a future run with this form of MissingNo. could be really interesting because of the way it can copy attributes from all kinds of different Pokémon throughout the playthrough.
I think the title is misleading, you mean that you can only catch pokemon via glitches, but you wrote glitch pokemon, I expected only glitch pokemonlike missingno or 4 4 hy
I first beat the Champion fight in Red all the way back in 1999....with my very last pokemon: a Haunter, level 35, Night Shading and Licking my opponent's Charizard to death, as it had gotten locked into Rage. This brought back great memories.
For viridian forest glitch, growl on rival's charmander 6 times, and the gengar will become lvl1 Glich for lvl1 pokemon is that leveling up makes it go from lvl 1 to lvl100
Ain’t no way this is the same smith plays I used to watch all them years ago play cod holy crap man never knew you were into Pokémon too! So much more content! :)
As soon as you got that Gengar I knew you were gonna be surprised in the Brock fight when he uses Bide and it still works on you. Good ol' Gen 1, held together with 30 year old tape and hope.
I feel that its totally justified to abuse glitches in a glitched mon only run, i think it would have been fun to see you also abuse the badge boost glitch, and mayber count how many 1/256 glitch misses you got. This run looks really fun, if i was any good at following glitch tutorials, id definitely try this.
I'm a fan who found your main channel 2-ish years ago when you pivoted away from Fortnite content into COD Zombies videos, so seeing you have ANOTHER career pivot into being a poketuber on the side and you finding this much success so far is really inspiring and motivational for me. Love the videos, hope you have tons of success in the future!
Haha when I was a kid my Missingno. turned into a Poliwrath with Fly. Can't believe you made me remember this. Thanks, dude! This nostalgic feeling made my day.
I'm sure the Horsea in Misty's gym can also be used to cause the Mew glitch. Although like you I've only ever done it with the Slowpoke. I absolutely adore glitches in Pokemon.
Yep. The Slowpoke is the better known one but yeah, the Swimmer in Misty's gym can also give you a Mew. So you could technically end up with 2 Mews at that point in the game.
The AI in gen 1 tends to cheat - if you still kept Gengar out, it would've chosen either Fire Spin or Flame Thrower, but since you switched into a Pokémon that resists these moves, it then chooses Slash. The AI basically chooses moves immediately before executing them. In Gen 2, the AI picks moves before, like you normally would, which allows for some easy predictions, such as using a team of level 5s to take down Red.
Using that Mt.Moon glitch with the team rocket grunt that you said it was in Rock Tunnel, I caught Gengar, Lickitung, Gyarados, Exeggcute, Exeggutor, and Grimer. (BTW I'm editing this comment every time I catch another pokemon via that glitch)
I just imagine a random child playing around with getting glitched Pokémon then unexpectedly getting assaulted by a final boss that was cut from the game 😂
I recently started a series playthrough and when I found out about the mew glitch I decided to slot it straight into my starter team. I don't really pay attention to stats much bc I only play PVE where basically anything will get you through the game, but I did in fact notice it was hitting like a truck despite only having pound rotfl. Rocked it all game long and it was fun as heck.
