It's so much more difficult in Gen 2 Editing by @SimplyAJ Music by @makegamemusic Rules: (1) No Items in Battle (2) Pokemon cannot be used once they exceed level 50 (3) No glitches (4) Set Mode
I noticed bugsy awarded 10,000 pokedollars upon defeat. It's interesting to see that the monetary award is indeed coded to match the leader's strongest mon instead of being individually coded.
Remembering that mudkip learns hydro pump as an ultimate move and envisioning the first rival battle just repeatedly devastating JRose’s team with the pressure washer
I believe the Gen 2 AI (and possibly other gens as well) have a clause where, if there exists a move they can go for that will kill, they WILL use it. Hence why the Spearow is so consistent about always using Drill Peck until Noctowl is at a high enough level to survive one hit, after which it switches to a more random move selection.
You're correct about the 'if a move will kill, use that move' thing, but it's deeper than that. In the case of Bird Trainers, specifically, they have an AI routine that discourages using any non-attacking moves, with no AI routines that encourage any of those moves, resulting in them always attacking every turn no matter what. There's a fantastic video by PiManRules in which he runs a tournament pitting all the Crystal trainers against each other, and he goes in depth on the various AI routines that the game uses in that video, if you're interested.
@@stompingpeak2043Pidgey is notorious for using Sand-Attack, so having Bird Keepers exclusively use attacks seems a bit counterproductive for ones who use that bird
Probably to minimise the annoyance Sand Attack causes, originally. At some point, it probably just became what had always been done, so they kept it in even though the pokemon stopped having sand attack.
Wow this was incredible. I wasn't expecting the gen 2 AI to be that much of a step up from gen 1, but this run really highlighted just how effective a simple change like locking them into attacking moves can be. Was really great to see Lanturn do some work, its a great Pokemon that for some reason, always gets overlooked.
If you haven't watched it, Jroses perfect crystal video from last month really highlights how good Gen2 AI can be if Game Freak gave the trainers better options to use
Given how over leveled Red is on basically any play through, getting the first try victory without much hassle was what I was expecting. The challenge is simply what if everyone is a slightly tougher Red, so what's one more, especially that one Red you're actually used to dealing with? It was still great to see, and trouncing Red is a well earned victory lap to the challenge.
This is like the one time Silver's dialogue about his pokemon being stronger than yours makes sense. Especially him calling out yours for being weak just after defeating his max level team.
Man, I don't know how I can thank you enough. I was having problems sleeping, but in 2020, I discovered your channel and started watching your videos. Until now, I have not been able to sleep without playing one of your playlists. My wedding will be in January, and I don't know how I can explain that to my wife when I want to sleep 😂😂😂
In the last 5 years I've lived in three different places. I've gone under so many changes in my life, so many stressful situstions and no matter what, your videos have always been there to enjoy and relax myself. Jrose, thank you for how much you helped me without you even realising it.
For the Substitute dilemma at 1:18:18 - there's a Schoolboy on Route 38 with a Mr. Mime that's at the right level to know Substitute. If it does have it, maybe that could have worked for Sketch? Great run either way!
I’m so glad you included your reactions and chats at the big moments. That’s the main reason I started watching your streams in addition to the RU-vid highlights!
I judt want to take a moment to thank Jrose for uploading videos of such extremly high quality. You make my day every time I see an video of yours. Thank you for beeing here and making youtube worth watching
Awesome video! Loved the cut-aways to your reactions, that was really awesome! I'd 100% love watching the Kanto section in a separate video, this challenge is really cool!
FMS: Four-Moveslot-Syndrome. Aka: having too many good moves and needing them for different things. Another fun pokemon syndrome is AMFADS (All-My-Friends-Are-Dead-Syndrome) which refers td bulky walls in doubles that lack any way of threatening the opponent effectively. This leads to both the opponent's pokemon repeatedly walloping all the wall's friends instead
Thank you for always creating such amazing videos. It’s a great day when I see a notification for new Jrose videos. Definitely want to see part three!!
I feel like I kinda grew tired of only one pokemon challenges (i also watch other youtubers doing it so it might be that) so i'm REALLY enjoying these new challenges you're doing, I felt really excited when I saw the notification of this one! I hope you'll keep going with challenges like these :)
Hey jrose, just wanna say thanks for making all your videos! I'm still on about number 60 of the red and blue solo runs but you can bet I'm going to watch all 151 because they're fantastic!
Me, out loud to myself: Why minimize over substitute...? Jrose, seconds later: You might be wondering, 'Jrose why not just use substitute?' Me: He's a witch
I watch your channel for about two years now, and all I can say is that i am amazed by all the work! Congratulations Btw your soundtrack is as awesome as your videos!
@@christophe5335 Well, I would, the problem-solving aspect of this run was the most entertaining part for me. There's plenty of streamers that upload the entirety of their absurd runs on secondary channels and people still watch. I was hoping Jrose was willing to create such a channel for this kind of stuff, I know it's extra work but it can't hurt.
There is a video by a channel by the name Pimanrules which has done a video about having all the NPCs of Pokemon Crystal fight each other in a tournament... They do go over how the Gen 2 AI works in that video.
Wow Jrose. I don't know someone that has more patients than you. I watched the whole way and I have watched every single one of your videos. Great work!
I really, really, really love watching your vids. Especially the really long ones. You have incredible tenacity when it comes to these challenges and your strategic thinking is very enjoyable. Keep it up, 100 years Jrose11
Clutch skiploom. I remember the first time i realized grass FINALLY had an above average speed mon in the hoppip line. Grass is plagued with ALL slow as rocks mons in gen 1. Such an underrated little troll, i took her to the e4 and solo carved my way through lance with sleep seed
To be fair, you did prove that your pre-Smeargle team COULD have eventually won against Lance, given that if Aerodactyl didn't wake up from sleep when it did, Lapras could have finished that up. So, because that came down to luck, anyway, Minimize was just, ironically enough, a more consistent strategy. And Smeargle wasn't even needed for Red! So the spirit of the rule remained, really, and it really doesn't detract at-all from how impressive this run was. Kinda wild to see that Gen 2 is so much more difficult for this challenge, but it also makes a bit of sense, if you think about it: Johto is famously the most underleveled region, really, so it's buffed the MOST by increased trainer levels. Whereas the Kanto postgame would be much less buffed-- as we see with the first try Red, where no real luck was needed. Very cool to see, and also very entertaining to compare with the Kanto run; in fact, comparing how each 'mon does in solo runs is half the fun of those, as well, so it's neat to see comparative elements in the other types of challenge runs, too. Either way, though, what a grueling challenge!
While Red is usually the hardest, I think this challenge actually makes the E4 hardest. You can save between members, but you still need 1 team to beat 5 trainers. Great video!
It's funny, as I was watching the Lance battle, I decided to check Substitute availability since it's such a free win, and a few seconds later you brought it up.
42:20 - That really depends on which part of the Single Player section you're talking about. Battle Towers, World Tournament in BW2 and Gym Leaders and Elite Four in BDSP are very competitive oriented matches, so beating them can indicate you are good enough for competitive play as well, if you go for the optimal strategy of course. Overall excellent video once again dude.
I think it's kind of crazy how you can take the same basic concept, do it for like probably over a hundred fucking videos now, and still have it be genuinely interesting and fun to watch. Just goes to show that you are an actual good content creator
The Delibird run in Black/White was another one when you used an evasion-boosting move (Double Team), which was an Impossible Challenge, so that was okay. :-D
Ngl I’m a bit disappointed you didn’t make this a two parter and instead jumped straight into Red. It’s just that your content is so good man, I want more.
During the Will segment you thought back and forth about Hypno and Haunter. In weird challenges like these having a full immunity to something (which Haunter does) seems like such a major factor for choosing it over another Pokémon with good SpDef (like Hypno). Are there other mons that have immunities to things that could have been used? Forretress being steel has a poison immunity, and also sandstorm immunity?
