There's something enormously powerful about beating everybody with the borrowed Pokemon and then sending it on its way to close out the video. Incredible.
I think he would actually love to see “you” do it. In one video he says “I think the more Pokémon content on RU-vid, the better” There is a newer YT’er who did a solo run and actually referred to rival fival and gave credit/shout out to JR
You should try runs like this! I’ve done a couple of solo Pokémon runs, mono teams basic Pokémon runs and other challenges!! They’re a lot of fun in my opinion
“Where was my mail? It was supposed to be delivered a week ago!” “Sorry, this buff chicken and I got sidetracked battling 100x and becoming Undisputed League Champions.”
'Heavy breathing'..."Oh"...'huff', 'wheeze'... "you gave me the bestt.... I mean, the worst looking sparrow I ever seen". 'HUFFING AND WHEEZING INTENSIFY', "This was due a week 'HUFF' ago.. 'WHEEZE'. Spoiler alert: If Jrose wanted to make Red's Venusaur consistent, he could've used return first, then fly, since Venusaur's only attacking move is solarbeam, which takes 2 turns.
Both work in different ways. While Karen Casino does have a ring to it thanks to the double K/hard-C sound, Karen Raffle matches with Agatha Lottery by having both words share a syllable count
I actually left a joke comment on an earlier video where he said he likes Will because no one tells him he mispronounces his name, and in it I said his name was "While" doubt it came from my comment, but he's probably making the same joke
"I have powerful dragons and a literal flying fire lizard!" "I brought a regular bird" "OH GOD NO" I like to imagine Fearow as the Goose of the pokemon world. Violent, terrifying, merciless. :D
@@Onmur They could use it to their advantage, but all the grunts still have the same selection of pitiful mons. Rocket only wants 1 thing and that is monetary gain. Abuse, sell, steal pokémon or run gambling halls they don't care as long as they (and especially their higher ups) get money.
@@iron___ I don't know if I am imagine this or not but can this happen with other attacks? Because I think I ve been hit by Dynamic Punch and didn't get confused. Is that a thing?
@@isaacleillhikar4566 0:00 “hey every one, how’s it going? In my last video, one of you commented that you thought I was Bug Catcher Josh, and he used a lone Paras, so naturally you requested I try and beat Pokémon Gold and Silver...with a PARAS...”
My theory is that since Koga is on the Elite 4 and Janine is his daughter, they wanted a master-aprentice story using the levels of their Pokémon. Problem is his team are on their 40's, so Janine has to be even lower to make Koga look good.
Yeah I always saw that as Janine being a young, unexperienced gym leader that isn't quite there yet. That's why she's so weak, she needs to train up. Also I feel that Kanto was made weak on purpose since, by the time you reach it, you're already the League Champion, so they shouldn't be much of a challenge other than Blue, a former Champion who is at your level.
It's a perfect illustration of why what makes narrative sense doesn't always align with what makes gameplay sense. Story-wise it checks out for you to steamroll Kanto...but gameplay-wise it's unsatisfying at best and actively anger-inducing at worst. Doubly so when Johto's level curve is already the flattest in the series and considering the pedestal they opted to place Red on. Even if you opt to take every single Trainer battle across both regions, you still have to either grind in Mt. Silver or just bite the bullet and face Red underleveled.
@@tonyredmond3136 That's what I used to think, but it also doesn't make sense that a random youngster or bug catcher standing around pewter city gets to have pokemon that could take on the elite four
I did this challenge with Crystal and you actually CAN get one fewer battle (even in Gold/Silver)! In Rocket Tower, if you take the sneaky approach and take one battle, you aren't softlocked: make sure your main mon is the only one alive, and get it poisoned by the executive's Koffings and Weezings before defeating the team. Then just walk around while poisoned and get knocked out, bypassing the softlock and getting you 1 fewer fight!
It was so clever of you to beat those two Nerds in the Underground. Not only does it get your Spearow to the evolution point, it means you fight them now when their experience matters as opposed to much later when they'd just be a drop in the bucket.
I can kind of understand the lower levels at the Olivine-Cianwood-Mahogany (although Team Rocket should've been tougher, or at least had more variety in their Pokemon) section. But I've never understood why they decided to make the levels in Kanto so low.
It's a good thing your level isn't all that important in those games. I think team composition and the moves you have are way more important than levels. Red is very easily doable with level 50 pokemon as long as you aren't heading in with a bunch of scrubs.
Hey Jrose. Just wanted to say thanks for the videos, I spend a lot of time in and out of hospitals and they really help me out in ICU and waiting rooms. Always look forward to new videos, much love from NS, Canada!
@@alexisp.6137 Funny, I actually had the Solo Kanto videos playing when I saw this. I have been getting better, thanks. I'm severely epileptic and constantly have to get tests and checkups, but the doctors have finally found the right meds and doses to keep it under control
I'm a simple man, I see a Jrose video, I get comfy in bed, and let his sweet voice take me into an hour long journey before I realize this was uploaded at 4am. Never change.
Jrose you missed out on exactly why Fearow is so nutty for this in gen 2. Badge boosts have 2 effects in gen 2, the first one the gyms reference boosts a stat by 12.5%. The second is a move type boost, these exist in gen 2 but aren’t referenced. Each gym boosts an attack type by 12.5% corresponding to their gym type. This multiplier is calculated along side STAB making max power Return and Drill Peck 172 and 135 base power respectively.
Can we all just acknowledge that this may be the first time Jrose has made a pun without pointing it out and self-depricating. This may be scarier than Morty himself...
The elite four for gen 2 always makes me double take. Whenever I reach Lance I keep thinking “hey wait I thought he was the champion” because my mind never registers Koga and thinks Lance is fight 4
It never made sense. Did Lance quit after losing to Red and Blue and decide to become a better Trainer? Then to return, beat all of the members (Bruno being the only remaining Original) and decide to stay as Champion? The other major bizarre thing is the Radio Tower replacing Pokémon Tower in Lavender Town. Did they really relocate all the dead Pokémon there to the smaller building just to make it a Radio Tower? So much for the paying respects part.
@@DMMDestroyerI always figured Blue left in shame to train and eventually became a gym leader, and Red apparently went to train on his own eventually ending up in Silver cave, so Lance took it on seniority. Then again, that would make Bruno fourth not Karen, and we all know that’s not happening.
Me too so when the Police Officer asked for his name I didn't want to lie since I didn't know his real name so I told him ??? was his name. Felt pretty stupid afterwards
I did the exact same thing as a kid and got really angry that "???" never got a name in any of the dialogue! I wanted to know his dang name! Why didn't the police officer find him - I told him the guy's name was "???"!! It was only after I picked up the game again as an adult that I realized my mistake.
So glad I'm not the only one who did this the first time as a kid. I had assumed they were going to tell us later in the story and it was gonna be a big mystery reveal. I felt so incredibly stupid when I realized the question marks were an invitation to name him myself.
Jrose is the best Pokémon challenge youtuber. A lot of others despite being enjoyable to watch use a lot less rules and make excuses but jrose literally does everything to make sure each challenge is as difficult as possible. He always takes the harder option and he always tries multiple different strategies for big battles. The amount of stuff I’ve learned about Pokémon from watching these videos is crazy
I think the reason why Janine's team is so weak is because she just took over as gym leader for her father, and as such isn't very experienced at it compared to the others just yet.
"The mail will finally be delivered by a level 75 Fearow." Yeah, a level 75 Hall of Famer that beat Red. This brings a whole new meaning to the USPS motto "Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds." The mail WILL be delivered.
I would be interested in seeing the clips where Feraligatr and Kadabra struggle. Don't need a full video, unless you want to, but I will always enjoy seeing you try to solve the problems you're faced with. The process is just as interesting as the solution
Jrose I’ve been on RU-vid since the very beginning and I can honestly say you’re my favorite youtuber of all time. Your content is second to none. The last few years there’s been a ton of people trying to build their channel around Pokémon challenges but no one even comes close to you. I’m 26 and haven’t played Pokémon in years but every time you post a new video I get giddy like a little school girl and it makes my day 10x better. Can’t wait to see where every original pre evolution Pokémon stacks up against each other. Keep up the good work!
Anyone else feel surprised and anxious for a second when Totodile evolves into croconaw, like some internal part of you has been trained by JRose's "Can x pokemon beat X" videos to feel like pokemon should never evolve? I'm actually curious if Jrose himself feels anyway, like a moment of nervous anxiety, after cancelling so many evolutions, or maybe even the opposite and its a feeling of pure bliss to finally allow something to evolve again? Anyway, another terrific video, thank you for continuing to make and share these Josh!
What made this amazing to watch was that the first pokémon was I ever able to raise to lvl 100 was a Fearow in pokémon Silver (by virtue of loaning my game to my friend who just repeatedly swept the League with it), so seeing you first try rinse the champion with it was cool to see. I would've demanded you give the mail to the Nightmare dude after the run, good on you!
I'm really glad I found your channel. I've gone through the minimum battles videos and I'm watching some of the solo runs. I like the way you narrate the videos and that you focus on the necessary mechanics of the games rather than just asking "can you beat the game with just x?" These minimum battle runs remind me of 0% growth low turn count runs for Fire Emblem which I also really enjoy. It's interesting because of the mechanical and design discussion more than just the gameplay.
I've been watching your videos since November and this might be your best one yet - congrats on the channel success, well deserved and I'm sure much more to come!
I love how the spirit of the run is something like minimizing Pokeviolence, but he repeatedly and callously sacrifices lesser Pokemon to advance Kenya. Just brutal. ... +1 and subscribed
I found your channel one week ago and I‘ve already spent an unreal amount of time (I’m too ashamed to say how much XD) watching you play Gen 1 and 2... But I don‘t regret a single second!!!
Hahaha, actually delivering the mail at the end was awesome, I laughed out loud. I just imagine the reaction to the pokemon being evolved and 65 levels higher!
Thank you for delivering the mail at the end. I was in a severe depression the whole run because I kept thinking about the guy waiting for a letter from his guard friend and never getting it
14:20 - if you didn't heal at pokecenters since the first town, you could have just teleported all the way back. Just like how they do it in the speed runs.
Jrose is the best. I absolutely love this channel! Jrose I really look forward to seeing all your runs in the future! It’s nice to know that there’s someone else who really appreciates these classics as much as myself. Sometime I hope to challenge you old school style with my link cable on Red/Blue!
