Nearly all of the characters in BW1 were redesigned in BW2. They were already near perfect designs and characters in BW1, but they became even better. Shout to Iris, Cheren, Bianca, Ghetsis, and Elesa though. They really shined.
I love Wallace's ORAS redesign, it has a lot more character to it and suits him much better. Unfortunately, I also feel like he has a lot more unexplored potential.
Y’all are forgetting one clear piece of Wally that happens after the main story. The battle Maison. I know most of y’all didn’t play it, however when you get the 50 win streak in a row Wally challenges you again but this time with a competitive team which is absolutely crazy this man pulled up with the comp team and was ready to sweep you
@@browncow5210 And he apparently hasn't aged at all in Alola. I guess he got the same curse as Ash when he decided to become a serious competitive Trainer.
Wait, what about Ingo?? His journey is crazy and I'd actually say it's crazier than Annabelle's. He literally ends up in the past in an entirely different region from his own. He doesn't even seem to remember who he is or how he got there, which makes his story even that much more fascinating. If they do end up remaking the Unova games, I would love if they added something more about him disappearing.
10:02 Well... Actually! It was explained in Masters that she got Virizion before coming to Pasio. So... Yeah! She probably got it after Black 2 and White 2?
Imo I'd personally add an honorable mention towards Sabrina. I swear it feels like somewhere deep inside the Pokemon company they're obligated to give her a new design every other year, og, anime, manga, FRLG, gen 5, masters etc, for being a character who is not that important in the grand scheme of things she gets a lot of love. Not that i mind as a Sabrina fan myself.
I agree with Silver, and I want to add something since you mentioned Neo Champions from Masters; I like Silver’s story in it, both overall and his Neo Champ story. Silver had a lot to work with for after HGSS, and I think it was shown pretty well progression-wise. Like, the first pair you get with him(albeit free) is with Ho-oh, who “reveals itself to pure-hearted trainers”. When he had the chance to either battle or save Ethan, he chose Ethan. And when he thought Ho-oh would pick someone else, Ho-oh chose him. Then there’s the Neo Champ event, where he finally got the chance to battle against Lance 1v1. Lance comments on him using a Tyranitar to try and win instead of other pokemon he has a deeper bond with, but Silver retorts saying that Tyranitar is battling for ALL of Silver’s team. It just really shows his growth as a character compared to his first appearance, and a nice end* to his story. * = he’ll still want to battle strong trainers, since he hasn’t beat Giovanni alone yet
I am a guilty of listening to Wally's ORAS Battle theme on repeat... It's just so damn epic! And Generation 5 truly is home to some of the best character developmets in the whole series.
Wally's final battle in ORAS made for one of the best moments in the franchise, even. That fight is GRATITUDE. He's come as far as he has because of you, and it's your responsibility to accept his gratitude in the language trainers share. Face him as equals, and fight his Mega-evolved starter with your own.
@@FTChomp9980 I honestly have no idea how they could change her design and manage to make it look even better. But there are a lot of characters that would benefit from a design change. Fantina, Flint, Candice, and Gardenia can benefit from a redesign.
I know it was briefly touched upon, but I loved how HGSS expanded the Rocket Executives and made it clear they were all different people and gave them different designs. Made HGSS Team Rocket a little better than GSC.
Real quick side note for Hau: The only reason he wasn't there to help on Melemele Island is because all hell broke loose while you were at Aether Paradise in the original games. He was down there with you. Still glad he got his character arc... Even if we had to sacrifice Lillie and Lusamine's for it...
There is also the fact that Wally also has a post game battle at the Battle Maison in ORAS once you defeat one of the Battle Chatelaines in a Super Battle (i.e. beat them as part of a 50 win streak). After you defeat him the first time at the Battle Maison, he has a random chance of appearing in the lobby each day and can be rematched but uses held items as one would in competitive (ex: Azumarill with Assault Vest).
As someone who has always really liked Hau even in SM, I'm glad he got to finish his arc in the Ultra games even if they are the Ultra games. Even I can admit that Hau felt a bit undercooked by the end of Sun and Moon so the extra bit of spice really helped. I don't think it was a massive improvement for him but they made a character I already liked complete in a way.
Annabelle in Sun and Moon is heavily redesigned to look like Kyoko Kirigiri from the Dangan Ronpa games. You cannot change my mind on this one. Blaine also got incredibly dripped out in HGSS in a similar way to Morty. Red going from original protag to secret superboss in the sequels pretty much shook the series in a way we're still feeling to this day.
I think Blaine's design change is a subtle character arc on his own. dude looked like a complete workaholic in the kanto games, obsessed with scientific work then cinnabar got wrecked in the volcanic eruption, and now he's finally able to relax and indulge in his more goofy side.
"Morty had the biggest upgrade in HGSS designwise" Bruh look at croaking centenarian GSC Pryce vs. Drip King "your daughter calls me granddaddy" HGSS Pryce.
That part about Bianca really made me think about what could have happened to the XY friend group, commonly incorrectly referred to as rivals, if we had X2Y2. Trevor is essentially Bianca 2 and he could have had a similar role in the sequels. I wonder if Kalos will ever get the continuation it was robbed of. I'm really curious to see what happens with Shauna after she's older
Excuse me? Did you say ORAS was 2014? How? Those feel like a generation ago to me. But I guess that's probably because I didn't much care for Sw/Sh or S/V, so I haven't sunk a lot of time into a gen for a while.
You're also forgetting Caitlin. In gen 4 she was the princess of the battle castle in the battle frontier because she couldn't control her psychic powers. In Unova, she's gotten older and is able to actually battle herself. I think that's pretty neat.
ORAS were too easy and the battle frontier and some emerald additions are sorely missed, but the character redesigns and updates to story and characters imo deffo made ORAS amazing remakes. Sad BDSP didn't follow suit much, if at all.
What designs would you change in DPPt then? I feel like they were already good. I've only seen one work that I felt gave Cyrus an upgrade and it was the DPA manga, and all they did was make his coat longer
All the Ultra Beast lore about "Fallers" and Annabel's involvement in all that is almost COMPLETELY absent from Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. Combined with all the stuff about Lillie's family dynamic, its honestly kind of lame... :( At least we got to see the world the Ultra Beasts came from though.
I think Koga deserves an honorable mention. Say what you want about his teams and whatever, but he was proof that Gym Leaders could advance up when he became an Elite Four member.
Idk if it's counted in video, but games Lysandre to his portrayal in the anime. The games version was way too blatant and how characters reacted to him was just kinda dumb with how they played off this creepy and clearly dangerous man. His anime self masks his true nature so much better, and even seems pretty nice at points, such as how he interacted with Mairin. I can see why Alain trusts him, I might've too had I not already played XY. The twist that he's evil is so much better handled in the anime.
Another nice bit of development could be seen in the Dragon's den Fight as well. If on the off chance you're using a Pokemon with Water absorb and Silver has a water type out, He'll use it to heal your mon.
S&M Hau: Malasadas, LMAOOOOOOOO! *hands you a Max Revive* Ultra Hau: Yeah, I know I'm weak, but that just means I need to try harder, for my Pokémon that believe in me. I'm still gonna eat a malasada while I do it, though.
I am really happy Bianca gotten an update in PMEX as a neo champion. From a clumsy starting trainer, dealing with daddybissues to an elegant and confident Neo champion, what's to hate about her?
Morty actually sports Drifblim aand Mismagius in his roster in PMEX. Bianca glow up was real. same for Silver's Neo Champion Story. (My boy having 8 pokemon who love him
Thought it was worth noting that another connection Mewtwo has to Team Rocket was when Rocket members were demanding Mr. Fuji start working for them again. At least in Let’s Go. That’s after USUM though.
Not gonna lie, even if the story of USUM is a slight downgrade over the original Sun and Moon, it's still better than every other game in the series (except for maybe Scarlet and Violet).
I wonder if Ash counts as a character up grade? Throughout the series there has been some ups and downs, some good and some bad. Also, Bianca's character arc reminds me bit of Liko with her figuring out herself and what type trainer she want to be.
I know you already talked about Ingo in the most Tragic character video. But Legends Arceus changes him from one of the only Gen 5 characters not in the main story to one of the most popular characters ever.
While all the characters from BW to B2W2 had an amazing shift into the development & changes, my vote would be Sabrina. Going from an cold & sinister alike Gym Leader to her makeover and being intelligent & more calm in Heartgold & Soulsilver was pretty neat. But than she also become an hollywood star at the Poke Studio in B2W2 was mind blowing.
I think that Bede from Sword and Shield should have been included. Say what you want about the story for that game, but Bede's arc was one of the better told parts of it.
Diantha had a brief moment of a social glow-up after beating Lance in the Masters 8. That lasted about 2-3 weeks. We all knew she was going to loose to Leon, just… yeah. Here’s hoping Z-A does something with a version of Diantha.
While I am glad that USUM did expand on Hau's character, I don't agree that his battle to be the champion was better than Kukui's. That legit took me by surprised when I first played Sun and Moon; I didn't expect the guy who gave me my first Pokemon to be my final challenge! And it was a nice change from other professors that just sit around and do nothing for most of the game after the beginning.
Giovanni in this is a joke. Him retiring after Gen 1 felt like a pretty good ending for the character. Rainbow Rocket and everything rocket since gen 7 just feels like needless nostalgia pandering
He’s talking about character changes between games. Kieran’s arc may take place across two waves of DLC, but it’s still one single story in one game. Unlike Cheren and Bianca where we basically get to see how their lives are going years after their arcs concluded.
The original character designs at most are better since the characters are supposed to be like anime characters. Remakes should at least improve the gameplay. Remasters are basically rereleases of the same masters in sharper quality on newer formats like those music CDs.
Considering how much I don't like Hau and really enjoyed Lilly and her mothers respective arcs, I am really not fond of what they did to the story in the ultra games. And I'll say it now, I think they did Hau's ark better with Hop.
And some more dynamic expressions. It's the same thing with people thinking ORAS May was made a lot more "girly" when most of her lines go unchanged. Is Wally a marginal improvement in ORAS yes, but he still feels like a middle of the pack Rival since you encounter him like 4 times and only battle him twice.
I always despised Wally for having a male Gardevoir (which is an abomination that shouldn't exist) and I was so glad that they fixed it and gave him a Gallade.
@@BJGvideos Gardevoir is the most feminine Pokemon. It should be female exclusive. Honestly Gamefreak should have made a male version of Kirlia that male Ralts evolves into and then into Gallade.
@@BJGvideos I get that you're going about it in the in-universe way, but I'm going about it in the real world way. The design is hyper feminine and Gamefreak knew that. It doesn't belong being male at all. Same with Kirlia.
@@TheFirstCurse1 That's just such an odd thing to get nettled about. You seem to be very strict about presentation to the point of extending it to fictional animals.
I always preferred the story of USUM. Lillie's family story didn't work for me but at least it had good continuity with itself and the rest of the IP. Lillie being the main character and never battles pokemon made it hard to connect in this series. The battles was half the character building in this series for every character. The story of Sun and Moon pacing issue really dragged on. USUM shortened the story slightly, made Hau better and fixed other story points.
