Pokemon X and Y: Basic Team Building Guide 

Since it's popping up in recommend I'm assuming some people going to come here for no reason. So here's how to build a good team in short. Have these uses for each pokemon:- 1) A physical wall. It has high physical defense and decent hp. Can stall or resists moves. 2) A special wall. Has high special defense and decent hp. Can stall and maybe attack. 3) A mega evolution. A mega is basically supposed to be a wall breaker. It's an all out offense. If it's out on the feild then it's meant to crush everything in it's path, simple as that. 4) A stall breaker. There'll always be an opponent pokemon using toxic or will-o-wisp or leech seed and recovery and stuff. You need something that when you send out, will effectively take out these pokemon, without being affected by the said stall. It could either be a Pokemon with a super effective type or a Pokemon that doesn't get affected by toxic/leech seed etc. You'll have to play the particular tier to know the best pokemon. 5) The speed pokemon. This pokemon is fast. Really fast. Even faster. Fastest in your entire party. This pokemon should always 100% hold a choice scarf. It will have very powerful moves and it's only objective is to attack first and kill. Upto you to decide whether it can kill an opponent at full hp or do you need to bring it down to half for the kill. 6) Your Favorite Pokemon. Trust me on this one. Usually people will tell you to use a stall pokemon. Or something with high stats. No. When you've finished getting 5 pokemon fulfilling the above criteria you'll find your team full of strangers. You'll never have used these Pokemon before. You'll feel completely isolated from a game. Your favorite Pokemon is the one you have to give you comfort. You already know how to use it. You love to use it. So use it as you like. It helps. Build this kind of team and you'll excell at battling in no time. That's all.

My team building pretty goes like: -Wow, I like that pokemon, but a water type would smash him. -Better pick a grass pokemon. -But what if someone uses a fire pokemon? -Better pick a water pokemon I wish I could be as talented as you are xD

If the Bisharp is jolly you dont have to worry at all. swamps kills the bitch with an EQ easily though. I just dont know what mega suits the core best. What If I Bring A Toxicroak Instead Of Excadrill And Use A Swanna With Defog To Get Rid Of The Hazards?

Question: Does your pkmn have to be lvl 100 (even though it'll be limited to 50) to have the max stats. In other words do i have to train all my pkmn to 100 along with EV training to get the most out of them? Or do i just fully EV train them and the level won't matter?

OK, so I know move sets and abilites and super training stats matter, but just straight off the bat: Does this team sound good? It is Gardevoir, Sandslash, Aeodactyl, Trevenant, Whiscash, and Blaziken. Additional Information: Sandslash has, rapid spin. My Trevenant has forest curse so I can wipe their team with my Blaziken. Aerodactyl has Roar, Scary Face, and Stealth Rock. (Sorry for the double post. I took down the other comment because of other peeps knowing my strategy, but whatever. I ought to take notes with this. I might see myself adding Travenant and Excadrill someday. I usually like to form a team around Vaporeon and make good use of it's water absorb ability by ether Skill swiping it or Role play it so Vaporeon can be a healer and an attacker at the same time.

I made a team for my friend and she always has Xatu on her, it has it's hidden ability so whenever she suspects a stealth rock, of willo wisp, she switches and the attack bounces back to the user, that's why Xatu is better than a set up or a rapid spinner, Forrtress is the same carrying the move rapid spin and has all the set up moves

Interesting to see how other people build their teams :D However, I usually don't build a team around one pokeman, I end up just using 3 defensive and 3 offensive pokemon, special and physical attackers/walls and types mostly balanced, most of the time. I hope I'm not the only one who does that ^^

Also, I'm thinking of switching Doublade with a lum harvest trevenant. Still a spin blocker, but a better one. Has very reliable recovery, immune to leech seed, spore and such shenanigans from whimsicott and the liking. Would be a fully defensive set with Leech Seed, Will-o-wisp, Horn Leech and Rest. Trevenant would also take advantage of sticky web more. So, you got any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I'm new to the whole battling scene, and I'm still trying to work out the basic game mechanics. Can someone explain to me why he pick a few Pokemon that weren't level 50 yet? I know in most online battles Pokemon are either taken down to level 50 or they remain at a low level, so is he planning on training them? Or is there a function I don't know about that allows low level Pokemon to temporarily be raised to 50 for a competitive battle?

This Video is great and helps a lot , but I have one Question still. Do you actually Train your Pokemon to Level 50 or 100 when you use them on Wifi Battle ? Or do you Train them until they are evolved and have the Moves you want and use the rule so that a lower Level Pokemon jump up to the Level which you fight in Wifi Matches ?

Okay I noticed that when you picked your pokemon, some of them were below level 50. I haven't played that many battles so does your level raise if you're below level 50? Also, this is sort of a random question but... how do the evs of a pokemon change when evolution occurs.

I just though that this team would look cool... doesn't really have to be good - Charizard - Can be obtained from Prof. Sycamore as a Charmander. - Greninja - Can be obtained from Tierno as a Froakie. - Salamence - Can be caught as a Bagon on Route 8 (Upper) - Gengar - You don't have to, but I would recommend catching a Haunter on Route 14 then use the GTS to evolve it. - Ampharos - Can be caught as a Mareep on Route 12. - Alakazam - Can be caught as an Abra on Route 5, proceed to evolve it (Level) and then use the GTS to evolve it furthermore.

hey Shofu can you do a more advanced team builder video? I am trying to get into competitive battling and have made a ton of pokemon with ivs and ev training and all that but cant seem to make a team around Mawile and Latias that I am happy with. It takes me forever to build a team with the ones that I am happy with. So I figured there is something im missing when it comes to building teams. If you make a more advanced one thanks if not I think ill still be able to learn from watching

I'm working on a team that must have my 6IV timid mega manectric (soon, she's still an electrike) with Electroball. She's naturally a super-fast special attacker, I might try to sweep teams with her if I can teach her a move to deal with those annoying shedinjas.

Of all the megas in the RU tier (Banette, Camerupt, Glalie, Steelix), which one would be the best for which teams? I currently battle in the RU tier and am looking into adding a mega to my team.

i am trying to build a team around steel types cause they have high defense. in the list of pokemon i have thougt about are: empoleon as ´´fire brigade´´, scizor as speeder, this gen 2 bird with super high defense as wall and anti fighting type, steelix (dont know what to do with this one). any other ideas?
