We bought a couple Polaris Storms and hope they will run. Getting them ready for our first ride in January at Big Sandy MN. These where Polaris's answer to the muscle sled shootout.
The Thunder Cats of a sound of there own for sure. Even diehard Polaris guys love the sound of a Thunder Cat tripple ripping down through the woods on a cold and still morning.
I always loved the sound of a triple ripping across the lake and i agree with not riding when it is that cold we are to old for that we would seize up in about 10 min great video guys thanks be safe.
Great finds! These are the sleds that were around in my 20’s so I remember the triple/triple wars fondly. I’ll be picking something up in the spring as a base for an RXL conversion I want to do. Love the channel.
Yes I was also in my twenties and would have loved to own a new one. I could only afford an XLT. XLT was still a very fun sled. We went on to racing one cross country and dominated the 580 class. Great driver and mechanics kept us in first almost every race.
The black one has SLP Ultra Lite skis. I had a set of those on my 1990 Indy and miss them. They were great skis. I've never synced 3 carbs, and that's probably the biggest reason why I've always shied away from the Polaris triples.
They still made steel cylinders in 95, but the steel cylinders were stock. the nikasil cylinders were offered as a kit from Polaris. the nikasil cylinders cannot be bored, but they make the engines much more dependable.
Awesome big muscle from the day.im a cat guy and had many zrt 600 and 800 sleds.alot of buddys had cats, polaris and doos from the era,we all had a good time and competed our big muscle 3 bangers.they all ran good, wed always change up/add to beat the other guy haha.even being a cat guy ive always wanted a storm and an rxl.but was never let down with big muscle cats.
these are the sleds all you guys should have had when you used to come up to PR in the winters! Also, the only thing you didn't bounce off of was metal stakes :D
Ah yes for sure!! I remember your old man taking my modified XLT for a rip across Blue with some very fast smooth ice on the lake. He came back with this look 🥶 and said I ain't ever been 95 on a snowmobile before. Lol good time's
nothing like the old 3x3's !! I bought a '00 T-cat two years ago with only 570 mile on it. Thanks to some screwed up winters the sled has 610 miles on it now, but its always has been garaged kept since new and it shows!! these could be like the old 775 Blizzards, 800 TX's or king cats of the '70's ..... Good luck on the Resto.......
Been couple years but hope you got a good ride in. Can use a needle grease gun and give a shot of grease to secondary and chaincase shaft bearings, you'll be glad you did. Always check compression wide open. If you have under 110 it's tired, under 100 and it might not even start when it gets warm.
I had a 1995 storm 800 like that blk one! Put xtra 10 inch suspention, Brand new track and studs Did custom seat and handle bar cover. Brand new paint decal kit Dg can new Kimpex plastic skis Pink belly pan protector. Cobra windshild. Was such a nice sled loved it
todd clyne ya man I frigging loved it!! I got a sticker made up for the wind shield said Storm warning , still in effect! I loved the sled man ! Congrats on your buy!
Only storm I road was a PSI 1300 cc . Only ever was able to get to 134 mph in 1000 feet due to how freaking heavy that sled is. Things a absolute tank and with the stock motors where so slow. Polaris got their asses handed to them back in the day until the Ultra 680 came out. But I gotta say the polaris triples where the best sounding machines period.
Hopeing you do a trash can for these. Ive got a 93 750 and a 800 sks storms picked up this spring. Shame snows gone. I wanna BBBRRRRAAAAAAPPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!!
I wish I still lived where it snows I hate Florida it’s hot year-round it sucks I wish I could afford to live in New Hampshire still I’d buy a vintage Polaris snowmobile like I always wanted when I was a kid I used to ride my parents both had Polaris Indy 400s and I would ride them when I was like 12-13 years old I would take them on the lake and open them up They both maxed out at around 105 mph with a probably 70 pound kid on it I was crazy when I was it 12-13-year-old kid had no fear
The Indy storm was my favorite possibly the most powerful sled that Polaris made in the late 90s but I don’t think it was ever anywhere near as fast as the ski Doo Mach z or the arctic cat Thundercat unfortunately
One of my best friends from highschool got deployed to Japan for the navy so he gave me his 95 XLT 600, just wondering what are some good pipes to look for for it? It just has the big stock muffler for it and I'd like it to be louder before snow hits in a few weeks
out of its own cylinder and they wrap around each other and go into a muffler or if you just take the muffler off and throw the pipes out the side of the snowmobile which is even cooler and makes it even faster there’s no way that goes 110 miles an hour I’m guessing at least 115 to 120 maybe 125 with performance heads Also the 89 and 90. In the 400s were like the entry model twin cylinder snowmobile’s not like the Indy 650 triple that was built to compete with the arctic cat wildcat and the ski-doo Mach 1from the late 80s early 90s which were all around 650 cubic inch triples All three of those sleds went over 110 mph bone stock so 94-95 Indy 800 storm Which was supposed to be the fastest snowmobile Polaris ever made for a long time is probably 115 miles an hour or so bone stock with the three until one pipe
Those aren’t stock pipes those are racing pipes the stock pipes had one pipe that went into a triple manifold where is that has three pipes one for each cylinder
The 94 Polaris Indy storm might have done 110 bones stock but that thing is raising pipes on it the black one at least the 1989 Polaris Indy 500 goes 105 miles an hour with stock pipes the two and the one with the muffler on it so if those have racing pipes on them where each pipe comes out of its own cylinder and they wrap around each other and go into a muffler or if you just take the muffler off and throw the pipes out the side of the snowmobile which is even cooler and makes it even faster there’s no way that goes 110 miles an hour I’m guessing at least 115 to 120 maybe 125 with performance heads Also the 89 and 90. Your not even close on lots of what you just said, ski-doo Mach 1’s were 617 and 670 twins in the 90’s, polaris 500’s don’t go 105 and cat had the zrt’s and t cats which were faster than the storm as much as I like Polaris. A 750 storm sat between 130-135 on a dyno and the 800’s got low to mid 140’s. 1994 and 1995’s like to knife edge the exahust side of the pistons on a long wide open run. Ski doos triple was the Mach z 780 in the early-mid 90’s which turned into an 800 later and the late 90’s Mach 1 was a 700 triple but this was about the time the storm went away and the 800xcr Came out which is much faster at around 155-160 hp on the dyno
@@christopherlehman4045 I’ve gone 105 on my moms stock 90 Indy 400 with my dad on it with me when I was like 10 so you have no clue what you’re talking about and there was no Thundercat or ZRT in the days of the 95 Storm and Indy 650 triples in 1995 the fastest snowmobile in the world was the Indy Storm
@@christopherlehman4045 also who comments on a comment that’s over a year old first of all second of all they didn’t have dinos when the snowmobile’s came out third. The snowmobile‘s are not as powerful as they used to be when they were stock when they first came out they’re like 20 years old 30 years old.
I had an 809 it was a 2000 and fast really fast but my friend the following year got a 2001 Thundercat 1000 and man he would spank me bad real bad both stock sleds
My dad has a 1200 cc htg storm from 1994 and u can hear it over a mile away and i have 2000 xcr 800 with htg shim, bore and pipes slp intake and mbrp can that makes 201 hp and my dads make around 350 hp that goes up to 190 mph
