In this video we are installing the Polaris Tunnel/Stud Protector into our 2021 137" VR1 850. Procedure would be very similar for the 146" Assault and 129" Indy based on the MATRYX platform.
Special Thanks to DT PowerSports in Uxbridge, ON for dropping this off for us on their way home from work on a Saturday. (We didn't get it for free, they just dropped it off :) ) They always go above and beyond for their customers! www.dtpowerspo...

I have my skid and track out so this was very easy for me to install these and no need to remove my snow flap etc...

22 XCR runs 10-15F cooler studded than non studded 21 Indy Matrix Launch edition. XCR is 137 vs 129 Indy also. Just studded the Indy and will see how it drops temp in 22-23 winter.

HI guys, I could not help but notice your ice scratcher set up for the VR1 in this video. I would love to know what you used for scratcher and the catch you have holding them up. Long story short, I have a 2015 and 2017 ProS 800. I DO NOT WANT CABLE SCRATCHERS (ABSOLUTE JUNK), I have used the skidoo scratchers with mounts from One-Rig design with great success, but there is nothing to hang them on when you don't want them down. I am intrigued by your scratcher and catch set-up. Any help?
@krazykanucksperformance2242

On the pro-s these style of tunnel mount scratchers won’t work unfortunately !!

Should have installed tunnel protectors when you had the skid frame out.
@krazykanucksperformance2242
@krazykanucksperformance2242 3 года назад
Hi David, That certainly would have been easier but the dealer just got them in on Friday and we had the skid back in already. Also, wanted to show how to do it with the skid in as I'd imagine most people may keep the skid in when installing these and studding.

I need studs and tunnel protectors for 21 650 xc launch .do you like that stud pattern .I went to the woodys site and they recommend a different patter for the doubles bit ive seen your pattern on sleds too

Terry, this pattern has worked for many years and many different sleds …. It all comes down to personal preference … if your in a racing league then sure some of it might matter but for the trail rider …. It’s not going to make a difference !

Curious if you noticed any difference in cooling once installed? I did read somewhere that the protectors also add some decent cooling capacity.
@krazykanucksperformance2242
@krazykanucksperformance2242 3 года назад
We didn’t ride the sleds before putting them on so can’t comment on that, but the Matryx run noticeably cooler then the Axys do. Very efficient cooling system !

Do you guys have any experience with the igrip screw in studs?? I realize it’s not the same as regular conventional picked track but looking at them for my new VR1 whenever it arrives ???????? Thinking it would be like a Ice Ripper track ???
@krazykanucksperformance2242
@krazykanucksperformance2242 3 года назад
Hi Paul, I don't have any personal experience, not sure if Colt has but from what I've seen, when installed properly it would give you the same effect of a pre-studded track for sure. I like conventional studs personally, trying the Studboy Pro lite backers on mine as well when it arrives.

Hey I feel dumb asking this. I just pick up my VR1 and notice the headlight is pretty much in the dirt like 10' or less in front of the sled. Have you guys tried to adjust the headlight on the sled. I know all about the adjuster knob. But I`m wondering if there is a lock or something I can`t see or find. Because it won`t move at all to the point that if I try any harder I`m afraid it will break. Wondering if there is a locking screw or something I`m missing. I`ve tried pushing in on the knob and pulling it out and still won`t move. I have the hood off and can`t see anything but the damn thing will not move at all.
@krazykanucksperformance2242
@krazykanucksperformance2242 3 года назад
Hey Chas, we haven’t had to point the headlight as the light seemed to be pointed very well on the sled we have currently. The sled is currently away getting wrapped so I can’t check it to see.

I just snow checked a 2022 XCR 850 136” 1.35 cobra. I looking for opinion on stud length and what you think of the stud boy pro backers and how many you recommend per track. I see you have 2 per track on this sled. Thanks
@krazykanucksperformance2242
@krazykanucksperformance2242 3 года назад
Hey, first off Congrats on the MY22 snowcheck Xcr 136 great choice ! As for studs on the cobra track I run 1.50 stud boy powerpoints with the pro series double backers, I run 2 studs per bar so on the Xcr 136 with the 2.53 pitch track it would equal 108 studs @ 2 per bar . I usually run 3 per bar previously but went back too 2 studs per bar the last 2 years and it’s perfect ... less weight also

Great video guys like all the rest. But the second I saw those bolts I could see it on your faces WTF LMAO. I was like this is a very stupid and dumb ass design. With all the brain power Polaris has they came up with this. Who ever came up with this must have been someone`s family member LOL. I can`t believe Polaris didn`t use one of the old methods that has worked for years. Slide it in till it bottoms out, and either use one bolt in the back or pinch the rail together. Has anyone you know ever has an issue with a tunnel protector in there sled. Polaris should have known better LOL Either way keep up the good work. How about showing one on taking the pipe out with out Scratching everything up.
@krazykanucksperformance2242
@krazykanucksperformance2242 3 года назад
Thanks for the comment! Yeah it's not complicated or hard just shimmying the protector down seemed a bit more work than it needed to be lol But we believe the aluminum protectors would help dissipate the heat VS the older Polaris sleds where you basically slid a teflon slider like you do on the rails which would keep heat in. These are also surprisingly heavy, but also would help stiffen things up a bit. Bottom line is they are in and never coming out lol
