My dad and uncle both had formula 3 600's 1998 and 1999. I think the 1990's were the best times for snowmobiling. Its when all the cool looking big bore sleds came out and the suspension started getting alot better. They just had very good looking sleds back than.
Yup, that sled definitely fits the bill. I'd be proud to own that. I've always been an equal opportunity snowmobile lover. I've probably been a little biased towards Polaris but I've owned Ski Doos, and Arctic Cats too, and I've ridden many Yamahas. The big 4 have made some incredible sleds and I'm over here drooling over them all! Especially the 1990s-2005ish sleds...golden era of snowmobiles!
What beautiful condition it's in. The person before him loved that sled. Todd, I appreciate the enthusiasm you have for this sled despite being a die hard Polaris guy. It truly shows how much you love the sport in general and I respect that.
What a killer sled! I'm a polaris guy myself, but I definitely appreciate any well built machine. Reminds me of the crashed show sled I picked up a couple of years ago, i have to straighten the chassis, but they're was just so much work put into the sled and it had paper work of every modification, dating back to '97-'98, that I couldn't pass it up. Your neighbor's going to have a blast with that sled.
The best looking best sounding sleds ever made were from the early to mid 90's to 2005...the triples rule in my books and love all brands not loyal to any...I'd have bought that in a heart beat what a find congrats...I'm in the process right now of buying all the big triples and restoring them to original factory specs.
I have a 700 ! Its wicked fast ! Make sure the throttle cables have no frayed ends ! I nearly blew mine up ! The oil injector cable was jamming and not feeding enough oil ! !🇨🇦
Look close with a magnifying glass at the color of the porcelain base (down inside) If it's white/very light it's too lean,of it's tan about half way it's close. If it's all tan and dark brown,it's rich. You may be able to get a idle/ off idle/midrange(low end read) but you need to get it out and do some longer pulls. You'll feel it lay over if it to lean. Check your plugs, check your plugs, check your plugs. Long live Two Smokers!
With the idle hang like that the pilot jets need to be very closely inspected, cleaned better and/or increased in size. If a 1/4-1/2 turn on the idle screws settles the idle it's a good bet they're to small. The carb boots are notorious for leaking as well. I have a 2000 809, all original un-opened with 8k miles.
Todd, I enjoy watching your channel and now and again throwing in another manufactures triple is icing on the cake. I would love to see once its dialed in a big race against your fleet of sleds. Oh and by the way he better put some traction control devices in that track or he will never see its full potential.
SWEEEET MACHINE! I just picked up a 98 with a fresh engine, dyno port piped with electric start and reverse, those were my three requirements to pull the trigger on one!
Love the Z, Had a Mach 1 of the same year. That Ultra though, my buddy had the exact same one, but from day one, he had a HTG racing big bore 880 kit installed. That thing was like 220 HP it was an absolute beast. I miss the symphony of the triples lol.
Ahh beautiful Mach Z It's no xcr 800 but, You gotta appreciate a nice Mach I remember them in their hay day. so sweet. It's so clean, Hard to find something like that now a days. I love it.
Awesome video Todd. Wow, what a clean , beautiful machine. But, when I was young and dumb , I liked ski Doo too. Lol! And yes, if it's the machine you want. You gotta make it happen like Bev n I did with flip n cooter... Don't let him ride thing 1 or thing 2 he might be sadly disappointed... Seriously that is one beautiful ski Doo for it's age. I'd be proud to own it too. Best of luck to him with it! 🍻🍻🍻
Seeing the mach and spx together brought back alot of memories. Back in the 90's my sledin buddy had the same 98 mach z and I had the 97 ultra spx. My ultra would spank his mach z. I'm not much of a skidoo fan but its a nice clean looking sled.
Just discovered your channel good stuff! Holy Jesus jones that's about as close to showroom as they come! Reminds me of my buddys crazy neighbor dave,, had a mid 90s Yamaha vmax, had its own special shed, he drove it twice a winter and it literally spent the entire summer completely torn down so he could clean it and do mods. His son has it now its still in grade a condition, altho he doesn't get captn insane-o about it like his old man did
Somehow a different motor, different chassis, and different pipes sounds very similar to my 96 MachZ 780. The first time riding a power valve triple changed my life and I just happened to get the 96 with the aggressive timing curve and 156 hp. It was the best $350 I've ever spent in my life. I love all brands of muscle sleds but have a soft spot for my very first sled a 93 Vmax-4 750 even though it's not a triple lol.
Awesome sled. My friends and I bought a 97 Mach 1 with 1500 original miles on it, I’d love to send you a couple pictures and maybe a video when we get it out this winter, it’s a beauty
Ive never seen a 98 that clean! Id consider that a good purchase. Love the skidoo triples, I’ve got a few myself. My personal favourite would have to be either a 99 machz Mike Houle edition or a 2000 formula 3 800 with the lime green in the hood graphic’s.
Not a Ski-Doo guy myself , Todd...but that sled looks amazing. There's still nothing like those older sleds to git yurself ramped up for the season. Great material and videos brother.
That right there is a beautiful sled. I own a 97 myself. Not nearly as clean but it will be by the time I'm done with it. Appreciate the video as always Todd your content is always inspiring
Let my kid ride my 97 mach 1 700. Day of running roads !! Comes home running 1 cylinder. Toasted top end. I was so pissed. It was near mint. Less then 3200 klms on her. Bought it a year old. Damm. Into 850s now but wish i kept that 700 and rebuilt top end
@@kyletracey5819 that is a shame. I just got done with a full top and bottom end rebuild on my Mach. It's been sitting in a yard for 10 years. Some videos of the rebuild/startup on my channel if you are interested
@@rotax700 very cool. I will have a look see. My kind of vids. I may of seen em already. I watched alot of 700 builds. Who knows. RU-vid can be a small world too at times. Have a great holiday. Some big snow forcasted here in ontario
Sweet sled! Thanks for sharing Todd. Now we need to see it line up with one of your monster polaris machines. Just curious what he paid fit it those sled here in Vermont are going for 2500 to 3000 depending
2 step buttons/delay boxes are meant for drag racing. On a 800 triple they are fun because we used one a 1000 cc HTG Polaris engine in asphalt racing in quarter mile and the sled was dangerously fast in the 60 foot times.
I'm sure that engine is worked , it sounds like it idles to high id check out the air mixture screws if it more that 1.5 turns out than pilet jets need to be changed to smaller ones
Love that triple triple! Even if it's a bombi. Lol. I was the lone Polaris guy in a group of Bombies. It always seemed I had more Bombi grease on my hands than Polaris. Lmfao. That is one sweet ride though.
Definitely get rid of the rave link. Get OEM rave valve covers. Otherwise a super slick old unit. Gotta admit, i don't care who made it. If its got 3 in a row, im here for the show!
Them 60 pilot jets r the stock jets that come in the 38mm rack carbs I own 2 mint condition 97 Mach Z s that I've bought brand new and that rave valve link alot of the drag sleds they put them on there when they use the studder button if not it will mess up the rave valves I know cause I got a 2000 Mach Z grass drag sled 800 imp I don't have a studder button that track being an inch and a half probably a snow drag sled yeah it sounds good sounds like it's got some work done to it maybe a port job on it see my 97 Mach Z 800 triple one is a trail sled and I run triple stingers on it
They routed wiring under the motor in 98 so some had wiring issues. CK3 chassis. You definitely want the Rave valves to open at same time. I love sleds but you made this ski doo guy smile. She is sweet!!!
