This bull was too big to fit up the race! He had an even bigger abscess! Luckily with plenty of help we were able to give him some relief from a monster sized abscess! Wow was he full of pus!
Poor guy. I imagine he felt better when it was over. I honestly don't know how I found this channel, but I feel like I've both been educated and entertained these last few months since. Lol. Your personality is very engaging.
What a blessing this vet is to cows! As a city girl, I've never thought that cows could get these huge, random abscesses. I'm glad he's there to help them.
Enoch's videos are the best! He is very good with all of the animals he treats, and adds a bit of comedy sometimes. Each and every one is a different learning experience.
Huge abscess in a very huge BULL. He may not have liked his side poked, but he’s going to be so much better now. I enjoyed watching how you teach and handle these situations. Your calmness has a real effect on the animals you treat. Thank you for another great video.
So that is the largest beast I have seen you work with. He was one noble bull. I would be terrified being near him. He is mature with massive neck. And the abscess? Bulls size made it look smaller than it was. Oh for a full cattle crush like Mr Hoof GP.
Would be fun to put him over the scales. Didn’t know that breed got so big. Thankfully he was very quiet. Hate to think what he would have done if he played up. Interesting to watch his muscles relax as he realised you were helping him.
I wish my vet had your patience. You really take such good care of the animals and try and cause them as little stress as you can. I bet he feels so much better now that had been drained
14:04 my two-year-old keeps rewinding it and rewinding it and rewinding it to watch that exact moment and laughs her head off!!! She asks to watch it at least twice a day randomly then will watch it nonstop about 💯x 😂 😂 😂 love it
😵💫 way to go! First, that bull was HUGE. Second, your practical and effective techniques are always spot on. I really love your RU-vid channel. Please share your back story some time. How did a young vet from Colorado end up in Australia? (I am a retired RNP-I live in a southern California coastal city known for its famous surf)
There appears to be a large bump on the top of his nose as well, is that a bruise or scar tissue? I know bulls get facial injuries doing what they do, so just curious if that was the result of one. Great and educational vid as always. You're fast with your hands when that big guy was moving! So easy to get crushed or broken hands!
Well done Sir. Between holding that scalpel blade bare handed and working with 5000 lbs of testosterone filled hamburger meat, these videos never get old. I hope you are okay, sounded like the blade did get your hand. Really appreciate the videos Dr. Bergman. Thank the patients, the ranchers, and your students if you can.
You’re such a swell guy 😏🤭 That bull visibly relaxed when that abscess deflated poor guy would be feeling pretty ordinary before . But wasn’t to keen when you filled it up again. Great job as always.
Love that there’s a person with this specialized skill to care for these animals. I’m sure it’s been asked: “Why are there so many (videos of)cows getting abscesses?” I assume it’s from hormones or steroids or length of life in partial captivity or living conditions? Not saying any of these things are unhealthy per se - just the nature of the beast with animal husbandry.
I still wince when the vet lances the abscess but I know they are doing it all for the well-being of the animal. I’ve said it before: thank goodness for those who care.
That title tho 😂great sense of humor you have,. I Feel bad the big boy, he had so much pain abscesses are so tender and sensitive boy do they hurt! he prob felt so much relief after .
Can't say I blame the bull for a little dancing! That must have been a few litres of muck you got out of him! Interesting how he calmed down, once the internal pressure came off. 😀 On his behalf: "Thank you!!!"
I had a very small, relatively speaking, abscess once and the relief that came from lancing was incredible. So yes, i think it was something even a bull could notice!
More often than not an animal’s injury is in an area that causes you difficulties. Like the bars of the pen being right where the vet needs to lance the abscess. I’m glad to see it’s not just my bad luck 😂
Extra cheesy….love it!! I sure hope this big boy is feeling better. It was nice to see that once he realized that the pressure and pain was subsiding, that you were helping him, Enoch. Poor fella.
Bulls this size are practically rhinos. We had one we could only handle safely (key word:: safely) was after he'd just field bred a new bunch of girls. I know all the McGivering we do on the farm, but that 24 or 22 blade held on a hemostat made me nervous, not that that size blade is sharp as a 10 blade scalpel is. I miss my cow days.
Hi Doc Dow Under!!! Please teach me...where you nervous using the scalpel blade and holding it with your tweezer/hemostat tools? I'd be terrified that huge boy would move suddenly and the blade would dislodge and go into him and never come out.
In the case of an abscess that big, Why isn’t it better to make a longer cut instead of a deeper one? Wouldn’t it be easier to get out more of the gunk that way without having to press on it multiple times?
I'm no medical expert but I'd guess a longer cut takes longer to heal and could potentially introduce contaminants vs a smaller cut which would heal more quickly with less risk of infection. May take longer to drain, but it's better for the animal long-term (that's my guess anyway).
Thank God I live in the time where things can be numbed. I had an abscess under my collarbone and a doctor used one of those huge Qtips to clean it out. Even though he numbed it, I was begging him to stop
