Gregg popovich is one of the greatest coaches in nba history. This dude is absolutely one heck of a coach and knows what buttons to press to bring the best out of a team that on paper you wouldn't expect them to be this great.
When I saw the video title I hoped it meant that Pop would get a taste of the rudeness he dishes out to the media sometimes... I'm a big Spurs fan and a Pop fan, but I'd still love to see him get owned by a reporter, just once!
Flobbyoiboyz I would probably be just as insincere when I did interviews. I'd hate having to talk to the media every day and get asked the same lame questions over and over.
Pop doesn't like the Hack a Shaq technique from a visual or audiance perspective. He finds it awful. But he is a coach and he has stated in past that yes, this is a useful tactic when used well because you are exploiting a weakness of someone's game which is what basketball is about.
I think Pop is able to seperate his personal taste and preferences from what makes the most sense in terms of effectiveness and giving your team a chance to win. He doesn't like threes but in 2014 when Danny Green was really shooting the three ball well and they won the chip he admitted that although he doesn't like threes not using the three pointer when you have good shooters on your team would be foolish. He is willing to do things that he may not personally care for but makes sense strategically.
At the end, its a risky move. You play percentages and hope they miss. Far from dirty move coach pop GOAT coach behind phil jackson for sure if not best all time
it is most certainly a dirty move as you are purposely breaking the progress of the game. it's unsportsmanlike not a bad dirty play style but still dirty none the less.
electricLadyland Its not dirty. You are as strong as your weakest player. They get payed millions to play. No excuse to miss FTs. It's part of the game. If it works why stop it.
In a playoff game, I want to see every strategy get used. If one of your players can't make free throws then I expect to see the other team exploit it. If you need to counter that take that player out of the game and substitute in someone who can make free throws.
