POPULAR BOOKS I HATE! 

I am so relieved to know you didn't like "All the light we cannot see"...believe me, I'm pretty much in a conflicted like/dislike zone...all i remember was that after finishing the book, I was a bit underwhelmed. Not a bit actually, quite the contrary. Like you said, the beginning was so captivating and it trailed on and on and was so extremely descriptive that, it kinda got me into a reading slump...but thanks..it's great to know I'm not alone 😋

I gave The Selection 1 star too. I hated it. I read The Alchemist too. I liked it but it was hard to push through because it was so slow. And please stop apologizing for YOUR opinions. If no one likes it, who cares.

Love your shirt hah, personally I loved The Selection, though I am aware of its flaws. I loved the raven boys tho!! I'm surprised to hear Fangirl on this list, I personally haven't read it yet but have heard nothing but hype! Great video:) love hearing unpopular opinions!

Yesss XD the Selection was so bad. I also didn't like Throne of Glass and pretty much anything by Sarah L Maas, Miss Peregrines Home blah blah, The Duff, The Divergent series, Anna and the French Kiss, City of Bones and Vampire Academy,. So basically most of the hyped up book from the last 7 years. The Raven quartet has some of the best descriptions, characters, and world-building I've ever read in a YA but tbh the storyline gets frustratingly slow in the later books. Like, you go into a book knowing that absolutely nothing will be happening for the first 60-7% of the book. But overall I don't hate the series because it gave us Gansey and Ronan.

I agree with you on Paper Towns (such a disappointment), The Raven Boys (so boring) and Fangirl (I don't see what was so special about it). For me I also didn't like The Night Circus, I just could not connect with the story or the characters. Great video Britt and I hope you are having fun on your backpacking trip :)

I HATED the alchemist too... but i don't subscribe to the ideas in that book... so thats probably why. But I did think it was super boring as well. Jonathan Livingston Seagull was the same way.... I could have copy and pasted my alchemist review for that book.

The Raven Cycle is so good, but the first about 100 pages are so slow. Also, sometimes the antagonist chapters are a bit boring, but overall the series is pretty good after pushing through those parts. But a lot of these books I agree with you. Especially the hype of John Green. For some reason I just can not get into his work as much as others do.

I'm in the middle of reading the Alchemist and I feel exactly the same way you do. What a relief because I'm reading it thinking is something wrong with me because I've read reviews saying it's wonderful and for me it's just okay.

i didn't like fan girl as well.. and the fan fiction parts in it were the worst... but, carry on is one of my all time favorite books. give it a try.. u wont regret it.

Same with the Raven Boys!! I hated how all these popular boys were all obsessed with this one girl and she was the type of girl that would never attract that type of boys... It was also very boring

I completely agree with your thoughts on 'Paper Towns'. It was like a lighter version of 'Looking for Alaska'. I never read 'The Selection' but just by looking at the cover, reading the synopsis and hearing reviews, I never will.

I really feel you on The Selection series, I started the first one and got about two chapters in and I just couldn't do it. Maybe it was timing, or just my reading style now, but I totally get it.

PLEASE give the Raven Boys another chance!! It is one of my favourite series ever!! It’s fine if you don’t enjoy it again but it’s definitely worth another shot

I also didn't like Fangirl. However, it was more because Cath ruined the story for me. She handed up something completely unrelated to her Creative Writing class even though she was supposed to be very clever? Also, her fanfiction made me cringe.

I LIVE for these kinds of videos!! I haven't read Paper Towns but Looking for Alaska is one of my most hated books ever omg. I feel like John Green just has a formula for a bestseller so all his books are kind of the same which is annoying. I did love TFIOS though 💕

I also didn’t love Fan girl. I didn’t even finish it. I read half of it and nothing was happening so I just gave up

I do not like the A Court of Thorns and Roses. I only bought A Court of Mist and Fury but I am glad that I finished the 3 main books but I will never read anymore of that series.

About the Raven Boys: I started with the audio book as well and the narrator was terrible so I switched to the e-book. Reading it myself was much better! I am still not a massive fan, cause I only really like two/three of the characters, but reading it is definitely much more enjoyable than the audio book! Just in case you do want to give it a second chance :)

I am absolutely related to what you said about paper town.. I went to the movie and came out half way through... I read the fault in our stars (did I even say the right name!??) I am not enjoying that either..I guess I am just no John Green material

Regarding John Green - be aware, An Abundance of Katherines is VERY similar to Paper Towns All the Light We Cannot See - I also apologized much in my review of it because I didn't like it at all. Raven Boys - not sure if you listened to the same audiobook version as me, but I agree about the narrator (Will Patton). The series was just okay and I thought the last book in the series was the worst - which is a bummer when you hope it will get better.

Nooo The Alchemist, I'm crying haha! Looking for Alaska and Paper Towns are totally almost the same concept, so I'm with you there.

you should definitely give Carry On a try! it’s much much better than Fangirl, both books are really quite different. most of the characters are so loveable and funny (baz is my favourite) but the book is still intense in someways. i’ve read it a couple of times now and it makes me so happy each time. i really recommend it :)

Aw man, I liked the raven boys but... I didn't like the subsequent books well cause I just did not like blue. She irritated the guts out of me.

Finally someone who agrees with my opinion about Paper Towns. But I love Fangirl, so I don't really know what you mean though. But it's your opinion so I respect that

I can understand about the raven boys at first but I’m so glad I continued the series because it gets better and better and I’m obsessed

the raven boys is a really slow building book, i got bored several times but i keep going. the 2nd book has a greater plot but still too slow building for me, but the third and last books are crazy good. i suggest you give it another chance!

I don't know if you ever ended up reading Carry On, but I'd say it's better than fangirl, and definitely worth reading. It's understandable if Rainbow Rowell just doesn't click with you though. I really liked this video and your explanations, so I'll be checking out what more you have to offer! :)

I agree w fangirl, it never struck me and I only got halfway through it. But I picked up carry on and it was so good and I absolutely flew through it. One of my favorite books I think.

Once I got to the end of part one of Paper Towns I couldn't make myself keep reading because A) it felt like a full story arc. and B) I really didn't like the main character's friends and I could tell they would be getting a lot more page time. Ugh.

woah, I agree with the others but all the light we cannot see...it is surprising that you didn't like it, actually this might be because I'm a huge history fan so I like everything involving war, but why was it boring for you? there were a lot of things happening quite fast, is it the subject that wasn't of your interest?

Also I did not get on with dream thieves the 2nd one in the raven boys, so I have not completed the series x

The Selection sucks so much, the writing was so bad I couldn't make it past the third page.

Fangirl would have been so much better if it would have been like 100-200 pages less. In the beginning, it was really interesting. But later, it just dragged on. Especially the whole thing about her dad and the entire family storyline. I don't mean the background, but more like describing so many visits about home, when Wren was in the hospital. Again, this could have been shorten so much. Maybe just including one visit (like Christmas or after the mental breakdown) and the hospital chapters should also have been shortened imo. Maybe just one chapter? Other people probably thought it was interesting, but I personally didn't think so. Same with the fanfiction/book parts. I didnt read them and skipped them allover. I mean THERE IS AN ENTIRE BOOK ABOUT THE FANFICTION. I wouldn't have mind a few excerpts from the fanfiction, but not after every chapter! Or when Cath read to Levi sometimes even pages long. The book has more then 400 pages, which is why there is so much room for rather unnecessary parts or parts that were dragged on too much. It should have been a 200-300 pages long book, so Rowell could have been more focussed. Also I could relate so much to Cath, but I didn't really like her. She was whiny and annoying. Again, I could relate so much to her, but it was still unpleasant to read about. Of course, this is all just my opinion. So if you liked to book, that's totally fine for me :) I was just disappointed, because I read Eleanor&Park, really enjoyed it and I heard so much nice things about Fangirl. I just simply expected more from this book then what I got :)

I tried reading the first Twilight book give up after about 2 or 3 chapters in couldn't get into it.

The Hunger Games is my least favorite thing I had the displeasure of reading. It was assigned as a book to read in class, and I read one chapter and never read it again. The way it was written and the lack of a good editing really made it bad. Plus the line she basically calls her mom ugly was just annoying and it was on the first page. Also the book rips of Battle Royale (a Japanese novel that was also turned into a movie), but I don’t judge the author since they did get inspiration from similar ideas.

I had to give raven boys 3 chance till I liked it, I mean I really don’t know why?? It seemed like something I would have liked, but the first book had some cliches I really dislike. But after the third time I finally finished it I was fine with it

Never read any of these EXCEPT 'The Alchemist' and that book fully deserves your criticism. Although I did not find the story boring as you did I felt it was childish. I remember reading 'The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe' in 4th grade and thought it was the greatest book of all time. Cried my eyes out when Aslan died. Right before the Disney film came out I went back to read it thinking it was going to be a pleasant trip down memory lane and was shocked at how empty it was. Little wonder why Tolkien was all over Lewis' case about the book's failings. I think 'The Alchemist' is on this same footing. Great if you read it in 4th grade, not so much as a learned adult. The rest of the books you down voted I would intuitively know not to give the time of day, lol.

I read fangirl and i was rlly interested in the Simon&Baz parts so I went to read Carry On right after. I was honestly super underwhelmed with both of the books. I went in thinking that Baz was going to be this awesome and intersting character and I was kind of disappointed when I read about him.

I totally agree with Paper Towns. I just forced myself to finish it but I hardly remember what happened because it was so boring. Also same with Fangirl which I did not finish. I found it really boring and thought I’d love it coz I’m a fangirl and love Harry Potter. But I just could not get through it.

I read carry on before fangirl. i looved carry on it s one of my top 10 books of all time. i hated fangirl though, i thought it was so boring and predictable GIVE CARRY ON A TRY i think you wont regret it💗

Popular books I wasn't thrilled about: Harry Potter series, Amy and Rogers Epic Detour, Illuminae, Scythe. So many more, but I can't think of them right now. Raven Boys is probably better to read rather than listen to because you can create your own voices for the story and the characters instead of hearing one made for you.

The Raven Boys is totally worth it .. I HATE the audiobook!! I read the series in book format and tried to listen to it now .. nope, not happening 😂 try it with the physical form

I can't stand The Raven Boys, and I've never met anyone who doesn't either, so I'm surprised it made it onto this list. I read books 1 and 2 (in physical book form), and it was such a painful experience with both, I don't get the hype. I decided not to read book 3, for obvious reasons.

I didn't like Fangirl but i really liked Carry On, maybe you should give it a chance. It is a parody of Harry Potter basically and it is quite a lot of fun..

The Alchemist was entertaining but certainly overhyped. I agree with the spiritual overtones, nearly felt like I was reading a tale tale straight out of the Christian bible. I finally read it after so many people recommended it and after I finished it I remember feeling that it was a 3 star at best for me.

I actually enjoyed Paper Towns. It is the first and only John Green book I have read. From what I have heard from others I really don't need to read anymore of his books since they are mostly all the same.

Try the book thief its similar to ATLWCS. But for me its way better, i agree with you with fangirl its way too cringy for me.

Omg thank you for adding the raven boys here. It feels like everyone absolutely loves it without reservations. I felt so deceived by goodreads when I read it. I hated it. All of these characters where annoying and the plot was the most ridiculous premise.

Carry On is not Kats fan fiction - it's Rainbow Rowell's version of it (I hope that makes sense)

Hey Britt, Don't you think it was the purpose of papertowns to dislike Margo and think she was sellfish and annoying, you and I learning not to idealise a person and handle dissapointments at the end of the tunnel. i respect your opinion but with fangirl i think you got the definition of cheesy wrong because the romance in fangirl and the over all story is actually really subtle

I think that Fangirl is so overhyped! It was not bad at all but also I don't believe that it's something special! And i found zero interest on reading the middle chapters about the fanfiction so i just skipped them! The same about paper towns... Margo was so annoying and selfish!

Im ssuprised you didnt like the book alchemist. I actually thought the book was well written and the life lessons and messages that the author convey. However like you said, its not for everyone.
