So after 2.5 years of ownership and 31,000 miles, I have SOLD the manual 718 GT4 and replaced it for the PDK version. It is SOOO much better and SOOO much faster. No regrets at all.
// Cost Of Ownership Breakdown //
(My finance settlement was £70k)
PDK PX COST (this is what I did)
£1,500 per month PCP x 30 Months = £45,000
Negative equity = £2,000 (Dealer gave me £68k against the PDK)
= £47,000 / 913 days (owned) = £51.47 Per Day
HAD I HAVE SOLD IT TO THE HIGHEST BIDDER (motorway.co.uk)
£1,500 per month PCP x 30 Months = £45,000
Negative equity = £6,000 (The most it fetched online was £64k)
= £51,000 / 913 days (owned) = £55.80 Per Day

I’ve just bought a GT4 PDK and totally agree, the PDK is phenomenal and was my pick between the manual and PDK. Totally disagree with the ceramic brakes comments, they are epic and the steels really struggle when driven hard. Also, you talk about lack of warranty on the 991.1 gt3 but then you say the opf/manifold mods close the power difference- that also invalidates your Porsche warranty….so in the same situation should a fault arise. Epic cars, enjoy

The difference is, the 991.1 GT3 engine blows up, even the G6 iteration is now failing, as is the bigger deplacement 991.1 RS 4.0 version, so running one without a warranty is a massive gamble. The GT4 engine does not blow up, which is why I don't care about invalidating the warranty, because it's far too compromised standard for track / hillclimb use, which is what I'm using it for. Just about everything standard is being replaced. Porsche ceramics are hopeless. Brakes are being replaced with PFC system, same as the cup cars. Insane braking power.

Enjoyed this and congratulations on your new PDK. I too have the PDK and have fitted the JCR back box which changed the experience considerably. It’s mainly used at the ring but has done Oulton, Snetterton, Blyton and Donington which was a blast. While the exhaust sounded good the game changer is my new tyres. Having finished the Cup 2 I wanted to try the A052. Simply they are incredible wet or dry and if you don’t have them, are allowed to have them for sprints then you’ll love them. Don’t last long but grippy down to the canvas:) Have a good season and why not bring it out to the ring!

First thing I did was fit A052s. I won't use anything else. Milltek OPFs and SOUL Decat Headers are being fitted when the OPFs get delivered - est 2 weeks time...massive gains for a NA.

I'm surprised that you burned the clutch out in 20k miles.

Great transparency on costs and a really insightful video being a Cayman fan myself. Also, great to know about the artic grey as I thought that was exclusive to the GT4 RS. Happy miles ahead and thank you for the video 👍

Arctic grey was made available as a premium colour shortly after the RS was launched, but not long after, ceramics, buckets and PDLS+ could not be spec'd, which made the car a lot less desirable. So there are not many arctic grey in circulation. I jumped all over this one, cause it has a great spec. I'm gonna do a walk round vid when it stops raining!

Very practical and helpful video, thank you mate. I’ll be moving from an Audi 8Y RS3 to a PDK GT4 next year and this video really helped with confirming what options are and are not important when living with one in real life. Looking forward to some videos on the exhaust upgrades - lack of sound is one of my biggest gripes with the new gen OPF RS3’s

Nice info. I got my 718 GT4 PDK in January. I got the PADM error a week later. Warranty job (£1987). I test drove a manual and it was ok but not in the same league as the PDK. I don’t get why people say it’s not engaging as you can use the flappy paddles to get plenty of engagement, especially on track. I did my first trackday of the year in it on Saturday and it was definitely engaging! Don’t agree with you on the PCCB as I find them fantastic. Consistent with no fade at all after many laps. I get that it’s personal choice though. I’ll follow you as I’m curious to see your mods that you are planning. Good luck with the hill climbing.

I understand all the reasoning behind it but, going pdk is such a sellout when discussing real sports cars; I know, everyone does whatever they want with their own money but, at this moment, I never drove a double-clutch that would feel remotely as engaging as a decent manual...faster yeah, but if you're not a professional racer in a professional racing series, who gives an f?! That's why manual cars are dying...because ppl keep coming up with motives to do the change to automatics..and that's just sad.

Agree 100%, a gt4 is made to be manual. Gt4RS is a different story.

My response to you would be, how many miles have you personally driven both cars, and where? Road, track, both?
@gt4rca

@@kingkobetha8thI’ve driven manual sport cars all my life, and the GT4 is not a great manual car, because of how Porsche have engineered it, for the reasons I have explained. Silly gear ratios and a poor clutch. My old manual Lotus’s were spectacular.

I feel the PDK fits these cars perfectly. High revving and fast shifts make you feel like an FI driver on the track or just ripping around town. Adding a good X pipe exhaust like JCR, BC Fabs or Kline (my favorite) really takes the experience up an notch!

@@gt4rcathink maybe your clutch had something up with it hence the feel/hang. Gearing wise, for track work no issues from me, for small tight tracks I have my short geared K20 Elige. The gearing on the GT4 for Silverstone, Spa, Ring etc is near perfect. Last point my PCCBs on Pagid RSC1 are silent, even on road after hard track work. Agree with you on the 991.1GT3 and RS. Ticking bomb.
