this targa is definitely my favorite. It's been a long time since Porsche has impressed me with its design. The 911 is always timeless but there's something special about this particular targa version. That back window is to die for. I love the fact that removing & replacing the top is automatic rather than a manual ordeal like days of old. I don't mind so much the amount of time it takes to fully retract. The full cabriolet is beautiful too but this targa steals the show. I never thought Porsche would make me change my mind about the F-Type being the sexiest sportscar design to come along in years but I think this 911 has accomplished just that.
Seriously, this man is a legend. I cannot wrap my mind around his accent and his passionate explanation of the Porsche.. Watched his review on the Cayman 2017 and this man almost made me run to the bank get a loan and buy that car. Weiterso Thomas!!!!
A Stuttgart plated Porsche 911 GTS, amd the beautiful weather and nature of South Africa. All components to make a great video, hope you enjoyed your time there.
Over shoulder camera view in the race track is very good it actually communicated the experience very well , it showed the character of the car , good job keep up the good work guys.
That car looks like so much fun to drive on the track. And that track looks like a lot of fun too. I'm not really a fan of the targa roof but every other version I really like.
I have a 2018 GTS in Carmine red with 2WD and PDK. I just past 3,000 miles and one year of ownership. I still get in it and can't believe how cool it is. It is my first Porsche. I used to have a picture of a 959 my dad put up in my room when I was 8 or 9 years old; I told him it was his fault for me buying a Porsche.
Once you lowered the side windows and open up the soft top, the top wind noise and cabin turbulence will be greatly reduced and would be almost similar to driving a convertible top down feel, the manual activated wind deflector helps a little too! The Targa 4 GTS exterior has elegant look and draw many envy eyes on road
The Targa looks great! But I see the names are becoming more and more complicated: ''911 Targa 4 GTS''! It's very long and very hard to memorize! Had I had the money, I'd choose the ''911 badge'' for the rear (it's a simple ''911'' script! Suits it better! Suits any 991.2 better!) and leave the ''GTS'' badges on the door and the ''Targa'' badges on the hoop just as they are! They're more than enough!! As far as other details go, the centre-locking Turbo wheels look ace!! Too cool to pass, in my opinion!!! So is the Miami Blue! Very nice option for the Targa! Also, you forgot to mention that the wide body is standard in any GTS model, either 2wd or 4wd!
Terrific review Thomas ! Very well crafted presentation. You make it look easy. Love the 911 lineup. I would like to own one in each variant and color ! I'll be watching this review over and over again. Beautiful scenery in South Africa ! Thanks for these fabulous reviews ! Nobody does it better !
Great video mate. I happen to have a 991.2 silver carerra 4 gts myself and absolutely LOVE IT!! I had a 991.1 carrera before the gts and although the .1 sounds a little better, the .2 kicks ass! Thanks for the awesome, and comprehensive video.
Really excellent through-windscreen views on Killarney Race Track - got the feeling we were driving with you. Enjoyed the drive on Rhodes Drive and scenic Chapman's Peak Drive, great Autogefuhl! Don't know Cape Town but it looks nice there. I think I prefer that sapphire blue Carrera 4 GTS Cabrio PDK. Thank you for such a great detailed Review, Thomas and Katharina.
+1. .. Luv the review. .. Man, Thomas you are a lucky man! .. Driving in a Lead - Follow formation with an instructor and a new 911 ...... You're killing me. .. Viewing makes me want to build a Porsche 911 coupe for order. .. You're a lucky man, Thomas!
In Television broadcast producing content is similar to making sausage. .. At times a day seems to go by as .. "Hurry up and wait". .. We're's the talent? We'res the union ENG.? .. Fond memories .. those were the days. Cheer's from Vail, Colorado P.S., Tell us something we don't know ... says Team Autogefühl. .. Great work! Thoroughly enjoy each segment with Thomas in full width, 4K, HD to discuss cars! ... None better.
I have the manual coupe and it’s my daily therapy session everyday driving it after work. I do regret a little not getting a cabriolet model though. Open top on this thing should be the perfect daily sports car. One and only!
The GTS is design wise and in terms of the required performance the best 911 model!! The alcantara in the inside, the black details and rims look so attractive :) I wish I will be able to drive the new 911 GTS someday ** Wounderful scenery :)
Hi Thomas, I’m driving a targa GTS 991.1 after I had a 991 convertible for quite some time; you are correct the targa is noisier but if you use the deflector at the top of the windshield it would get better. Thank you for your great review, very detailed
Autogefuhl 2017 seems to be much better than ever before. You are covering more aspects of a car than you did before. But all the time you are missing the Ambient Testing or Illumination Testing (as you did in V6 F-Pace review). Great Review.
Thomas, you provide the most comprehensive motoring reviews. I really enjoyed the cars and location especially as it is a dark winter's day here. I would go with ' Mexico Blue ' on special order. ; )
I think I'd set up a 911 with 911 4 Cabriolet in custom pale yellow with black Alcantara interior. Set up for road trips and travel. I love an open top. Thomas your reviews are excellent, well detailed and your perspective is valued.
Great review as always! This one sounds so quiet it's kind of sad. The old scream up to redline is gone and replaced with gimmicky exhaust burbles as you lift off the gas pedal instead. I'd rather have sound as you step on the gas, not lifting.
Amazing view on the ocean...so peaceful...contrasting with the storm that is the 911 engine on the track! PS: I just realize watching this review on the track that we viewers are like "parrots" on your left shoulder...So, in a way Thomas, you're...a Pirate...lol.
Thx Thomas, as always a great review! I have a 2015 naturally aspirated Targa 4S and would not trade it for the new GTS version. I do not care for the black wheels, Targa bar or the turbo engine. However, mine is silver and I am intrigued by the new "Thomas" Miami blue!
911 without PASM, with PDK, with Sport Plus 18-way seats, without sports exhaust make this WAY more comfortable for day-to-day operations and longer distances. I think the standard exhaust looks better too. Good video, but you should mention that with different options selected, it really becomes a different car.
Thomas, excellent detailed review. Thanks. You provide the information I like to see. I do agree with you on the microfiber interiors. Leather is ok but materials science moves on.
Thomas hello from South Africa; living in the Cape I recognize those roads. Thanks, in part, to your informative videos, I have ordered a Porsche 911 Carrera 2 in Sapphire Blue (bright, but not too loud) PDK (I am a wheelchair user so will also have hand controls fitted). I opted for items like the Sports seats plus (in crayon and chalk) and adaptive cruise control as I am planning to use the car on many long journeys. I did option the sport chrono package, but not Sports exhaust (as it adds no power, just noise). I cannot test drive a car, but I was very tempted to purchase a 718 Cayman, after your review, but there was little space for my wheelchair in the cabin.
nice review Thomas bt ild go with the 911targa gts version thats with a manual transmission /stick but all naturally aspirated with offcourse the alcantara
One comment: the performance times have been grossly understated by Porsche. The Car and Driver instrumentation testing results speak for themselves: this is any day of the week a 3.0 second car. C/D TEST RESULTS: Zero to 60 mph: 3.0 sec Zero to 100 mph: 7.2 sec Zero to 130 mph: 12.2 sec Zero to 150 mph: 17.4 sec Rolling start, 5-60 mph: 3.8 sec Top gear, 30-50 mph: 2.4 sec Top gear, 50-70 mph: 2.5 sec Standing ¼-mile: 11.3 sec @ 125 mph Top speed (drag limited, mfr's claim): 193 mph Braking, 70-0 mph: 142 ft Roadholding, 300-ft-dia skidpad: 1.05 g
You're asking what I would go for, Porsche-wise. I definitely would buy a Targa model. The design is just flawless. The GTS... I would say no. As you say Thomas, it has a bit of a mean look on the outside. Which I don't like. Looking at the Targa specs, I would buy a "wolf in sheepskin": a Targa 4S without the alcantara, but with all leather espresso-cognac, sport plus seats and the extra PowerKit. With that kit, you'll have exactly the same engine as the GTS with the same output. I would NOT take the sport exhaust system. I find the sound to be very annoying. If want a pruttling sound, I can buy a coffee machine. Colorwise, I'm not sure yet. I like the brown color, GTS-red suits the model very nicely too.
Thank you for the great review in this beautiful place ! Just one comment concerning the wider rear, all GTS (4 or RWD) have this wider back compared to the standard 911. The only difference is the illuminated line for the 4 and a black line for the RWD.
My thoughts are the same! Thomas-- Especially I am not fluent on using the heel and toe technique. My five other cars are auto and my RS is manual. Sure, I enjoyed driving the Manuel at time. But I am a bit rusty when I get into my manual RS. IN THE MODERN WORLD, the dual clutch is so advance today. Why not?! One may ask ourselves why light the fire from scratch. Although it's a bit more involve feel on a manual gear box car at time. In a corner, best to have both hands to hold onto today's performance car. Safer that's for sure. 🦅🦅🇺🇸

Great car, great review! Regarding the interior, if you take the standard interior in black/alcantara it is leatherette on the bolsters, headrests, etc + dashboard is not in leather either. Would be your perfect interior! zero animal skin =) One thing that I find very annoying with 911 is the horrible dashboard reflections in the windscreen. The air vents and chrono watch are mirrored in the screen :(. Look at 27:00+ in the video in the street driving part. GTS would be the pick of the current range, but the perfect combo would be a Tesla + a 991.2 GT3 (rs) for track days
Oh great, which market? Caus neither in the US configurator nor in the German one I can put Alcantara in a 911 which is not GTS. Furthermore, in the GTS, the outside is animal skin.
thanks! Well, we did have the S review here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-iDmjjpKscUc.html And I would say... the hp is not the game changer. The Alcantara interior is :)
I like the look, but I don't know why the roof is a soft top; surely you get all the disadvantages of a soft top (wear and tear, security) and all the disadvantages of a hardtop (weight, complicated system)? Why not just get the 911 soft top convertible and have better visibility and lighter weight?
Great review Tomas , there is however one question that comes to my mind every time I see the back slates of a 911 . What happenes when you wash your car / rains drops and the water gets into the engine right through those fans ? I can't see anything that will stop water from flowing straight to the engine compartment . did you never wonder ? or do you know how the engineer dealt with this "Problem" ? Thanks and keep up the good work !
hmm I guess it rinses to the sides. Furthermore, I think it is not a real problem when water touches the engine, maybe just if you put some high pressure cleaner at certain parts
That targa roof mechanism is just ridiculous, for sure something will break or start leaking in a couple of years. And it adds A LOT of weight in the wrong place.
Thomas, could you do a review on some alcohol (ethanol) powered cars? Ive read that in Brazil 90% of cars drive on alcohol, and all major manufacturers make them.
I do not care about the comfort when it comes to a supercar. 911 Turbo S, GT3 RS, or GT4 RS could make it for life for me. The one thing Porsche can not beat is the Mercedes Benz AMG GTR's engine sound... not even Ferrari can do that.
Maybe it looks better in person. However in 2D on the screen, I feel that the Targa design just throws something off about the look that I am not into.
The 991 is very nice, but I think Porsche is going in the wrong direction aesthetically speaking by flattening out and elongating the body. The 911 looked best between 1973 and 1989.
