Gotta give the broken, unbalanced perks a few weeks to adjust their strategy before nerfing it, kinda like we do with anti-tunnel or anti-camp mechanics
To be fair, I found out that the perk Otz was referring to in just 4 minutes of searching through his 3 most recent vods on Twitch. He basically said that exact perk is exploitable in a Xeno game on Azarov's Resting Place.
@@ScottJund Not to mention, while he blurred it out and bleeped out him saying it at the end of the video, he didn't blur his mouth, so anyone who can read lips (so, pretty much anyone) can tell what he's saying.
Pretty sure Left behind was bugged like that as well when it gave you massive repair speed if you were the last survivor. During one patch it was applied for the whole match
Had someone in my game do this today. The killer had no idea the exploit existed. They were a good sport about it but I feel bad for people who don’t know and think they got rolled when people are just cringe
"Its not seeing widespread abuse" Me after coming back from a week DBD break seeing the perk everywhere wondering why I'm loosing every game in 3 minutes :"Am I just bad or is something wrong?"
@@ScottJund Just like you, I have zero idea why potential energy isnt kill switched. An infinite engineers with soket swivles and clean rag is a 36 second solo gen. How could survivors ever lose abuseing this?
You still have to do the 10 seconds to prep the perk before every 20 charges. It saves like 20 seconds. 10 seconds, switch, 20 charges at double speed, 10 seconds without toolbox, 20 charges at double speed @@curtmull8066
I got worried when otz said it was a niche perk nobody uses because I’ve been running scavenger for my commodious toolboxes so much the last couple days
Honest to god, I don't even understand trying to keep the bug a "secret" to begin with. Won't Behavior be more likely to notice the problem sooner if everyone starts abusing it?
BHVR being aware of a bug has never pushed them to make changes faster in the past sadly typically unless a bug legit makes things unplayable, they'll leave it in for anywhere from 1-12 months 😆
Let me put the math here (and people can correct me if I'm wrong): Part 1, original calculation: 1. Potential Energy requires 30% gen progress time to get 20% ACTUAL progress done on a generator. 2. The time taken to complete 1 charge on a generator (that is 90 charges) is 1 second by default. 3. The time it takes to get 30% progress on a gen (0.3 * 90) is 27 seconds, and 20% progress on a gen (0.2 * 90) is 18 seconds. 4. You lose 27 - 18 = 9 seconds of time by using the perk NORMALLY. Part 2, exploit calculation: 1. Original time that is taken is 27 seconds (or 27 charges) for 30% gen progress and 18 seconds (or 18 charges) for 20% gen progress. 2. The speed of repairing the charges on a generator, is calculated by dividing the charges, by the charges per second (which is your repair speed). 3. 30% gen progress (while using potential energy) is reduced by the speed of the toolbox used, and the max speed using the Engineers toolbox is +150% (2.5x) speed with the 2 addons. 4. So the resulting time taken to get to 30% progress (27 / 2.5) is 10.8 seconds. 5. The time saved to get 20% gen progress (18 - 10.8) is 7.2 seconds. 6. Overall this is an effective (18 / 10.8) 66.67% increase to repairing generators, and that is why this is significant! These calculations ignore using any other bonus repair speeds you may receive from other sources. you're welcome and if I got something wrong let me know!
Opened DBD after watching this video to see if Potential Energy was finally kill-switched but instead I got news of New Outfits - Aftermath Collection. This is just sad
I have a running theory that BHVR can't killswitch multiple things at once. I didn't play from the time they implemented Killswitching till Oct 2023 but I don't remember it being a thing.
There have been things in the past that, for whatever reason, BHVR couldn't killswitch at all. Literally the killswitch just failed. It's clearly poorly implemented, so i wouldn't even be surprised if what you say were the case.
@@Sprachitektur They are fine in that it is fair play and not cheating but its still like having training wheels on your bicycle and saying, "Look ma! I'm _actually_ riding my bike!" .
@@BucsFanO22using discord also gives an advantage and some loners genuinely consider that cheating as well. They're probably just mad they don't have anyone to play with tho
Yep a whole month old. Its been reported on the BHVR forums multiple times and yet nothing was done about it. The reason it seems new is it went from a niche exploit that only a handful of people knew about to something much more common. Its good that Otz and Scott are talking about it as it means BHVR's hand will be forced when it becomes something that can't be ignored.
@@larsliamvilhelm bro, I’ve like. There’s been moment when this exact thing happens, even when I’m not using Potential Energy. Just normal gen gameplay, and I just don’t even rage or get angry anymore, I just stare at the screen like 😐
I truly do not understand people who touch this perk, why do you do any of that? If you just finished the gen you would secure it from regressing via any means + you will finish the next generator faster by just running there and doing it instead of interacting with potential energy + you are risking losing all that precious time if a Killer comes around and smacks you. I'm dead serious, what's the use case of this perk because it seems straight up detrimental to you and your team.
@@strawberin0 can be useful if you're in a 3 gen scenario and a different gen is way more progressed than the other ones. play it safe at a different gen for charges then use all of them on the progressed gen and boom, value.
Damn man I had no idea about this until today with otz video and yours, it's actually kind of ridiculous how many maps are bugged and this exploit has been in the game for I believe what you said a month and none of it has been Killswitch yet
BHVR are so inconsistent with how fast they patch/killswitch perks that are being exploited. I don't think they EVER killswitched Merciless Storm when it was causing gens to lose all progress. But then you'll have the Blood Pact exploit that got the perk kill switched in a matter of days.
I’ve had a couple games where the gens flew by despite me maintaining consistent pressure. Could’ve just been me playing worse than I thought, but I had quick chases back to back to back, kicking gens with pop after nearly every hook. Makes me feel crazy, like I could easily be coping, though I know people will always abuse things like this until it’s gone.
It's the survivor equivalent of when Merciless was bugged to where it could delete the gen if someone missed a skill check. And somehow that version didn't killswitch the perk (I'm aware it was rightfully killswitched from something else prior, but how this was able to run rampant for so long is ridiculous, just like Potential Energy here)
i played solo Surviver today and was wondering about 2 Survivers (1 having this Perk) talking to each other about how the thing is still not patched and wanting to team up to use it together and i had no idea what they had been talking about, now i know
This kind of reminds me of the merciless storm bug. Every killer was running the perk until it got killswitched or fixed (it would take a gen from 90% down to 0 if you hit the skillchecks)
I just started using it because the last neuron in my brain screams in joy when the gen bar gets a big chunk. I had no idea there was actually an issue with it
You have to do a specific set of actions that you wouldn’t think to do otherwise. Doubt you were doing it by accident so you’re good, just if you keep using it you’ll probably get flamed in chat, reported, maybe even blocked.
at this point just killswitch the fucking game lmao. so many broken maps, a broken killer, broken servers/netcode, and a broken perk (that we know of).
@@boringmonkey6958 Twins are bugged at the moment with being able to recall Victor in 10 seconds instead of the normal Victor cooldown, making Victor insanely oppressive. i admit saying they're 'broken' was a bit much, but nonetheless they're still bugged
@@PSpencer Oh... that. I'm still confused about that, they announced that as a change in the patch notes as a change to Twins... But then on the forums, the community manager announced it was a bug..... 🤪
@@boringmonkey6958 You can recall Victor at any point when he's out on the map, but this does not affect the cooldown when latched onto a survivor, that was supposed to stay the same.
Bunch of people complaining about the perk being told to us, but maybe if literally everyone starts abusing that bug, BHVR might actually do something. Since they seem reluctant to do so, otherwise
I wouldn't hold my breath. I mainly play survivor but I know damn well that anything survivor sided takes significantly longer to be fixed than anything killer sided. FTP and buckle up still hasn't even been mentioned by the devs. The fact that potential energy hasn't been killswitched yet means it's likely not going to be at all.
@imhoenn5710 What's with this weird Us vs Them nonsense? And nonsense is exactly what this is. Are you just conveniently forgetting about how Merciless Storm was bugged for like 2 months where it would regress a gen to almost zero? And it was never even killswitched during that period? And you randomly bringing up perk balance when the conversation was about bugs...
I was so confused about why my teammates kept using that perk. Almost every game i played as survivor, I saw it. Now, I wish I had reported them for exploits.
Things that have not been kill switched and have ruined matches for months. Merciless storm. Knight grab exploit. Spirit audio exploit. Mangled slowing everything down bug. Wake Up! Speed bug. Multiple map exploits RPD, Hawkins, Garden, Etc. All currently not kill switched. Twins 8 second recall bug. Sadako tv spawns on rpd and hawkins bug. Pig boxes on hawkins bug. Potential Energy toolbox bug. Off the record infinite endurance bug. Certain killers ignore ds stun bug. Skull Merchant. Bugged gen spawns on certain maps. These are all things that are game-breaking or at least ruin matches that have been in the game for months without being kill switched. Many of them have been fixed by now but the point is, behavior is so reluctant to use the kill switch and no one knows why.
there are two types of people. watching otz's video where he censors every mention of the perk. then looking into recommendation and seeing scott with the perk's name in the title
0:47 you said this and my first thought was "they will be using potential energy". Obviously they have to be using it to abuse it, but anyone using it is obviously abusing it because who tf uses potential energy?!
i have to guess that for some reason you're able to use the toolbox during the potential energy window without consuming charges funnily enough i think scavenger would have to fail many checks in the perk's logic/how it works to enable some sort of big problem like this
@@Xarenth Yep that is how is how the exploit works. As technically the game sees it as your interacting with the potential energy magic circle, not the actual generator. Which is why charges are not being expended by the toolbox, as the toolbox doesn't register the circle as a generator.
@@skeleton_magic hahaha thank you I'm so happy to have my suspicion confirmed (it means I'm smart) At least I have to imagine that can't be an insanely hard fix on their end
Either I'm stupid cause I tried the potential energy bug but didn't notice anything when using a toolbox. either way its dumb that a perk isn't kill switch
it's kind of a convoluted process to get it to work. i don't wanna explain it here bc that'd be telling ppl how to do it but i'll say it's not as simple as hopping on a gen w your toolbox and immediately starting to collect PE tokens
I haven´t played the game in months and I discovered this bug yesterday from otz´s video in which he censored the perk so I was sure it was a bug with scavenger.
I tried it one time just because I had to see it in action, and even though it was a twins and I regretted it, I gave my toolbox, let them have the kill, and brought a frightful flan so at least it was somewhat worth it for them. We got the gens done, and I tried to save my team so I didn’t screw them for what I did, but they all died anyway. I won’t be doing it again but I hope the killer forgives me since it didn’t end poorly for them lol
I liked Potential Energy because it meant you could do a quick tap on an a friend's generator and give them a big boost, or to use it o make sure you didn't lose as much progress from a killer kicking it. But I would be fine if it got killswitched for now, its better that more people know about it, as it forces BHVR's hand when it becomes more widespread.
Honestly, I actually use this perk as intended. I didn't even know about this bug until ppl were accusing me of exploiting and saying they were gonna report me
@@CMX431 Its basically witch hunting at this point. As I would wager most folks didn't know of the exploit even existing. Heck, I even seen comments where people were accidentally doing it and thought that was an intended feature of potential energy. As its a relatively easy exploit to replicate even for inexperienced players. I'd recommend taking a break right now from DBD right now. Or at least not use PE anymore until its fixed.
I literally had no idea this was a thing until yesterday so when I was playing killer I thought I was just not putting enough pressure and just got steamrolled but now I realize that the survivors I went against played absolutely disgustingly, BHVR should punish exploiters.
as one of the 5 potential energy mains in this game this exploit makes me so sad since i cant use it anymore. good thing im taking a break from dbd until the ue5 madness is figured out anyway
I know the exploit exists, I have used it and I know how easy it is to pull off. But I use potential energy in the way it was intended and have for the past year
I do gens at that speed with hyper focus and toolbox, then scavenger to get toolbox back eventually, when I use potential energy too for proper use people still call exploits though. If people are abusing it then annoyance is valid but assuming everyone is just kinda is a bit dickish. I just learned about the exploit because someone was assuming and being a dick about it, I suppose at that point, why shouldn't I abuse things if people are gonna be assholes lol. If people were running potential energy on its own with no other gen or item related perks i'd agree, very shady to me.
I say it over and over again, bhvr tests it the perks and other things, like for example: when RPD had 3 gens, Im sure that random gens are just suddenly in the middle or on Haddonfield (from one day to the next) why doesn't it happen "randomly" now? OTR that was suddenly "buggy" and was everytime activ, now that and many many other things, but bhvr confirms it because they still have enough stats to killswitch what they brought in
OTR was serversided problem, I guess they are testing on servers PE too I guess, maybe they are planning to buff it cuz it's really bad for 1 token u need to repair 1,5%
Not true. For consistency sake you can only do the gen with the bug consistently at about 69 seconds to 75 seconds per gen solo. That's with Deja Vu and a purple tool box with speed add-ons. That's the fastest I've been able to do it in custom games I imagine it would be even harder in a public match with a slow downs and getting interrupted by the killer.
OMG survivors abusing game breaking bugs or exploits? NO WAY!!! Now I'm having PTSD from when boon exponential first came out and every survivor would dart for RPD library.
i just realized, for every huntress abusing were elk ima now use this potential energy bug and abuse it, because im fking annoyed jkjk but im still fking annoyed at the skin
@@brimp4989 well to my experience most cheaters are not that great at the game so they will go goblin mode and try to get their item back. not perfect, of course - i'd ratehr have it killswitched
Lol i had a survivor when i played killer like a week ago with engineers toolbox with 2 speed add ons and i was like lol why would he do that and then i learned its an explot and it makes sense now...
