My mother took ceramics class back in the 70s when I was a kid. She made some pretty cool things. If love to try It, but I don't have a kiln.

Hello, Yeah thats a small problem with the kiln. Ofcourse you can find some small used cheap kilns just for the start and then you can move on to a bigger one. But as you remember and as you can also see pottery art is amazing and it would be nice if you start learning.

What kind of clay and glaze do you use to make it food safe, so you can actually drink out of it?

+TheChannelWithNoName About the Clay is the normal white or red clay. About the glaze are the normal transparent glaze that is foodsafe.There are some raku glazes that are not foodsafe and some that are foodsafe. Like HoneyColour glaze and Turqouize raku glaze.

I see you didn't score and slip the handle. Does that REALLY matter? I'm going into ceramics 2 next semester. Also does it matter if you wedge your clay before hand?

We're doing pottery in school and whenever I pull up on the sides to make a mug or bowl, it becomes off center or breaks. What am I doing wrong? I pull slowly on the sides and gently and I can't figure it out

Hello Molly. You have to keep the same thickness between the inner and outer fingers. If you press for example to one side more than the other then instantly it will be off center. I know it is difficult when you start but with experience it will be easier. The right way is to have both fingers the same pressure and try slowly to pull up.

Sir, you didn't show how to make a handle. You didn't score and slip your mug and handle to make sure they stick together. Your handle is crooked. There's no explanation to make clear what you're doing as you're working on the wheel. It would have been nice to see the tool you're using more clearly. It seemed you were going to have ridges on the mug, then changed your mind to have a smooth mug. I don't think this is a very good video for beginners.

+Rose Hannaquist Hello Rose.First of All thank you for your nice comment. Indeed on this video(second video i have made) Is not the best of the best for a beginner. It show how to make a mug but not how to make a handle. Thats an old video. If you see my latest one are improved. We explain most of the things we do and show with more details how to do on every step of the making. But still many people doesnt want to see every time all the detail and to explain slowly how to center how to rise how to make a lid etc. We try to make now more balanced videos.
