Check the grooves on the belt and see if there are chunks missing out of it..maybe, only time you save fuel is by not idling so if you have the option get an electronic apu. When you do have to drive you don't have to speed everywhere. I'm gov'd at 74 but I usually do 60-65 and I get around 8-8.5 mpg depending on what I haul...you havnt gotten to the mtns yet, wait until you get in the Virginia and west Virginia area, if you're coming through Central around 29 between Oklahoma and North Dakota let me know, lunch is on me. I'll be running this route the next couple weeks

Actually turning the ac on is more efficient because if you open the windows you create more drag thus slowing you down so the engine has to work harder and burn more fuel , So in conclusion closings the windows and turning the AC on is more efficient , And one last thing to remember ( less drag + right driving techniques = less fuel consumption )
@adrenalineonwheels5116
@adrenalineonwheels5116 2 года назад
that only works at highway speeds, ac at highway speeds and windows down in the city
@paulpotvin3822

Today's AC units are much more efficient than back in the day. There is barely any difference at all. There was actually a mythbusters episode on that topic. Run the AC and be comfortable.
@arefallout

@@paulpotvin3822 Right it dpes use more fuel but not enough to really make a difference to distance or engine output. Especially since you have a fridge anyways.

Yes and no. When your moving down the highway or driving really anything where you are stepping on the gas the AC motor kicking on should make a very very minute impact on the fuel consumption. HOWEVER, when you stop and sit and idle, yes you will use more fuel as your RPMs jump up to compensate. This passage comes from the EPA..... "According to the EPA, using your car's AC can be more efficient while driving at highway speeds than leaving the windows open. The main reason is open windows elevate aerodynamic drag, causing the engine to work harder and burn more fuel."

Theres always haters. When you have opportunities to advance yourself rather personally or professionally, you owe it to yourself to take it. Its an opportunity to grow in becoming your best self. Just concentrate on you and do you. Ones who judge is usually our of jealousy or ego. Ones who judge have no interest in advancing in life and feel stuck in their lives and need someone to blame. Nice vid Chez 👍🏻 I use EVUTEC phone case w magnetic mount, instead of using the air vent adapter I instead use double sided 3m tape and have it on the empty area where the ELD tablet is usually mounted. You can buy spare magnetic mounts and use the double sided 3m tape to mount in sleeper area as well. I mean you’ll end up doing what fits your needs, just a suggestion. From personal use this case w magnetic mounts is nice I have one in my car as well, makes it easy to place and remove phone.

Running air conditioning will not make any notable difference in fuel use . wind resistance from Windows down will. Heard you say truck has 800 thousand miles on it. For you to not run an ELD it has to be a 99 or older. That truck would have over 2 million miles on it. I am retired from driving now and enjoy watching you beginning your career. Also I have never heard of an employee paying for half of the fuel costs. I would be wary of that kind of deal for many reasons. Best of luck to you.

Of course the fridge and AC will use some of your Diesel. They use energy and the only energy source of your truck is Diesel... The battery is charged by the alternator which is powered by the engine. I get that you'd want a fridge in your truck, maybe you can get a smaller one if you're concerned about gas mileage.

@@chez8239 Hell yeah I know what you mean. $1K is easy to brake if you're managing your clock correctly and running hard with no brakes along with all the food and water you'll need already in the truck. You'll get it eventually. The more miles you can squeeze into a drive shift the more loads you are available to run. The more loads you're able to get to the shipper early and grab another, the more money you can squeeze into a single check. I recommend you check out Trucker Browns channel to get a feel of the kind of truck driver it takes to push $2K average at the worst companies.
@MondoChow777
@MondoChow777 3 года назад
@@chez8239 I aslo forgot, going home frequently also hurts your check, most companies want you to be out 4 weeks minimum but they won't tell you that because they'll be asking to send you loads with more miles and tighter runs which means more money. As a matter of fact, it is rare for A/C to take an effect of gas mileage on any vehicle (generally less than a 0.09 mpg difference, regardless of size of compressor.) But as mentioned before, it is best to keep your windows down on city streets and up with the A/C going on the highway/interstate. Most of the drivers I know mainly go by that as they can hear what's going on outside with their truck a little better just in case, I don't know about you. Hope this message reaches you well and keep up the amazing work!! Love your videos!!
@forestfang2007
@forestfang2007 2 года назад
Another bit of info as I watch through, the compressor for your A/C is driven by a serpentine belt. It does however use power from the battery to run the fans that blow the air through the vents.

One thing about Love's, PFJ and TA/Petro truck stops is there's a good chance you're gonna get clean, solid, and quality fuel. Those mom and pop operations will fuck your shit up from what I've heard when it comes to fuel.

Idk about other places, but down south at least, we say I-20 or 20, or whatever number the interstate is. That’s how it is here in Texas.

Trucks GPS does not works in NY Metro area, if you are driving on the I -95 Cross Bronx area stay in middle lane all time is the best way to drive in New York Metro area

Best advice that can be givin right here DO NOT Rely on your truck gps at all in the city. Trip plan a day ahead you won’t have time to once your in it’s too late 😂

one thing your truck needs is a dash cam, there are alot of scammers out there, insurance scammers that will hit your truck and blaim it on you, so a dash cam will be handy to have for those types of drivers, its strange that a company asks a company driver to pay 50% of fuel cost, never seen a company do that before, Another good pre trip item to check is make sure noone pulled trailer pin, cause ive seen drivers not check it go to pull out and their trailer just drops

A/C units mechanically run off the the engine and create a minor drag on motor components, sleeper A/C’s are powered from electrical or separate generators and/or cables,…right? 🤔

Yes you save fuel not running your a/c and also keep your speed down to save more fuel .. try going 55 and see how much you save .. good luck

On a normal vehicle, the A/C is belt driven from the Engine itself. If its the same on a truck (AKA not a roof mounted unit) yeah it's gonna rob a couple mpg.
@drunkpacman
@drunkpacman 2 года назад
But hooking to the battery on the truck (If it's not a separate generator) will also lower your MPG. Just run the A/C it wont hurt haha.

About the AC. You don't really save that much (if any) by turning off the ac. Assuming you are saving fuel for a milage bonus as a company driver. You should do your companies math because at Schneider I made .02 per mile if I hit the fuel milage but if I said screw fuel milage and floored it then I could get more miles which heavily outweighed the fuel bonus. Also I didn't have an apu so not idling the truck south of Cali was torture and made the fuel milage bonus nearly impossible. You might as well be comfortable if there is a possibility that u won't hit ur bonus

I’ve already had plenty of people laugh at me for joining swift, but I don’t care, gotta get my feet wet some how right? An you jumped ship because you saw another opportunity, nothing wrong with that, not something I would do because of repaying the 6 grand, but it was your call an those people don’t live your life. Just keep doing you, seems like your doing just fine where your at.
