Well it's been too long, but during our break, we've been working on... the brakes! So let's see what that looks like.
It's been an answered question for a while now, but due to the size of our Crown Victoria and C4 Corvette brake calipers, we've chosen to add power assistance in an effort to hit our long term goals. That being, a balanced car, where the throttle, steering, clutch and (yes) brakes, all feel appropriately weighted.
It's hard to say if we'll be exactly where we want to be, but with a hair of adjustability built in, we should be able to get close.
We'll talk more about pedal ratios, cylinder sizes and math next time, but rest assured, it's been one heck of a learning curve for me!
Like you, we can't wait to see this beast on the roads someday, so I hope you'll Subscribe and hit the notification bell so you won't miss that experience with us!
Please SHARE this video with your friends, it's a small step that will really help us out!

We can’t promise that anything we do will work for your project, or that you, someone else, or your warranty will not be harmed or affected by doing it too. Please work responsibly and do not mess around with machinery that you are not comfortable with, even if we made it look easy!

I have followed this build from the beginning and I must say that this man and his father have engineered and fabricated this car in a way that would make most professional builders envious. I eagerly await the day when the engine starts and they drive it from the garage.

G'day from West Australia😉 Adapt, Improvise, and overcome. Michael I believe you have definately shown my above 43yr trade motto. Have used a power cord style drill for a mini lathe multiple time. Unfortunately every time I have made a jig to hold a drill true for lathe work I end up having to replace the drill. Yeeeep they die😂 Lets make another jig coz now the drill is no longer available😊 Or as happened early on in my career someone liked my jig more than I did, and modified it to have legs and walk.😏 Looks like from what I could see a decent ratio exists for direction change at back of booster. Nice job thumbs up👌👍👍

Build quality doesn't improve with the machinery or tooling - the latter just vastly shortens the build time per bracket, gusset, angle or holder as soon as You know what You're doing .... You still gotta know exactly how to measure, construct and solve problems underway - an art mastered best under "hand-tool-conditions".

Fanatik, you are really starting to get the welding done. Your problem solving was always skewed, but in a good way- and it does get to a solution. You seldom to the one step forward, two or three back. I think I saw some familiar guiding hands- say Hi to Dad for me! Excellent fabrication work! I really like mini lathe 2.0...but I see mini or not so mini lathe 3.0 has arrived. Just a couple of thoughts. The smaller bolts in your 90 degree linkage....I hope they are at least 5/16" bolts...also, you may have done so already, but I would replace those with AN series bolts for a bit of extra strength at that critical juncture. Your use of a 90 degree linkage was very well thought out. In the MGB GT V8 I raced, we used tilton pedal box with back mounted master cylinders (and no booster), but we put the remote reservoirs right about where your HVAC unit mounts...so I see why you could not use that setup.
@FanatikBuilds
@FanatikBuilds 8 месяцев назад
Appreciate it Jim! From memory, I believe those are 5/16" or 3/8" (grade 8) bolts so we should be good to go 👍 ... next episode we'll be adding a substantial amount of structure to the pedals and linkages as I have no desire to under-build the brakes! I originally was thinking about a setup like you mention, but as this is just meant to be a cruiser, and we really want a balanced feel (where the steering, throttle and brakes all have a similar weight to them) the booster just made sense. At least, that's what I believe from my math! We also have the ability to swap to a smaller booster later if we need, so thankfully there's still time to fine tune it all! Cheers my friend.
@jimf5160
@jimf5160 8 месяцев назад
