Faund family trope was so important for me and my friends/found family, who are all lgbt in a very conservative country. Knowing that we could find family outside of our unsuportive relatives gave us much needed hope and strength to survive leaving our homes later on, and probably helped us in finding eachother.

It's an absolute SIN that you don't have more comments. This video was a really great analysis on the way shows portray friendship and how friends can bring out the best in each other. My fav friend group is probably Kipo's friendships too, and I love seeing wolf and Kipo grow a bond like sisters
The only cartoons i've watched were ATLA and She-ra. There have great, believable characters, interesting story and lots of deep thoughts and i love them. When i watched live action shows or read a YA books the chosen family always felt too cliche, forced, like they were makeing too big deal of it. But i guess that after ATLA and She-ra, i will give it a try. I'm not ready for the shows yet, but i'll read some books
Try Tamora Pierce. She’s damn good. Start with the first four books of The Circle of Magic, her Winding Circle series, or her Tortall Series, with the Lioness Rampant quartet or Protector of the Small quartet.
If you loved ATLA and she-ra, you would love Arcane and The Owl House. Also the first 3 seasons of the dragon prince, written by an ATLA creator... The fourth season was meh, though.
When you mentioned friendships that are strong and don't delve into shipping at all, I immediately thought of the bond between Dewey and Webby in the Ducktales Reboot. Tons of fans ship them (even in spite of the finale's twist), but the show puts no romance between them and gives them much more of a brother-sister bond that I think works a lot better (even disregarding the finale's twist).
I agree with all your pointsthethy were very well presented. Just imagine five or even ten years from now what cartoons will be conveying through the power of friendship!! Maybe it's silly but found family and friendship are favorite tropes and I will sell my soul to Netflix to give me more of it
I really like your videos. They're deep dives into casual entertainment we usually don't reflect on. I especially like how you show the evolution of tropes over time. Fiction, in many ways, is just as real as non fiction.
1:26 or maybe the generation of people creating cartoons in the industry now is the generation that grew up making fanfiction and fancomics and headcanons to weave an imagined overarching plot into the episodic cartoons they were given, who entered the industry with the dream of telling the plot-driven stories they imagined in childhood, and now they are fighting to change the industry standard and winning...helped in no small part by the business model of streaming services being based on retention to keep viewers watching, not serializability to fill up dead air waves the way cable tv was.
On the point that there are a lot of modern shows which have an overarching plot: It used to be that people literally couldn't record cartoons at home, and it was a gamble if a kid could even watch two episodes in the right order. Now that we are in the 'netflix era' people can watch whole series in order at the same time (or binge over a couple of days) like extended movies cut into smaller sizes. This means that what happened in episode 2 is fresh in your mind as opposed to something you might not remember which happened 3 weeks ago.

I mean this is the only trope I never gets sick of because I thinks it's relatable to people because I think we all have a group of friends who were there for us and sometimes when watching characters who have different personalities and goals is interesting because we it comes to watching shows I tend to see the characters as real people who have different personalities. And I know some shows ain't realistic when portraying characters but I do take it seriously because having this found family trope creates an interesting relationship with the characters in terms of how they balance each other out. Relationships are complicated and having to write characters with different personalities and relationships each other is *HARD* Sometimes, they like each other, sometimes they don't, sometimes they want to kill each other *literally* My point is when writing a character and their relationship with each other characters you have to know you're character well enough to how they're going to react to the other characters. Like for example, make a tough anti hero character and good natured hero have a fuck up sibling like relationship where they try to kill each other all the time (another trope I'll never get tired of) but they both do genuinely care about each other just not in a traditional sense.
