What's ironic about this season is the fact that we are fast approaching the year it was set in, the year of 2025 so whenever we reach that what are we going to do?
Simple. Spd is an alternate timeline/universe to the main power rangers timeline like RPM & Dino Charge were. Aliens aren't living amongst humans & there are no reports of mutants which in spd has said to have already happened in the main timeline
Honestly the executives running the show probably forgot about the details they used to build spd and time force, cause if they did remember they would have started building up to it in one of the new seasons
@@azeezbashir1734 They didn't forget. They just don't care anymore. The show is written for toddlers during the Nick years. They were just sperm when Disney PR was airing
I wish the A-Squad was shown more throughout the show. Not even interacting with the rangers but, seeing then interact with the Evil forces and see them in action. This would not only explain their turn but, build up their fight with the rangers seeing their skills on display (and maybe some backstory).
That's a common issue with Power Rangers e.g... the stories could benefit from being a 100 episode arc vs the short 38/40 episodes we get. So there is more time to flash out the series stories.
Yeah, SPD had a VERY VERY VERY troubled production. As you may have notice, the entire Zord fight against Omni was CGI which took up almost the entire season's budget for that one fight. You can see the effects in the season itself very clearly. It's why Sam didn't appear unmorphed until the finale aside from being a ball of light (they couldn't afford to pay an actor to play his adult form), was why many episodes cloned their Dekaranger equivalent verbatim like "Recognition" and why "Perspective" reuses the same Dekaranger footage like three times in the same episode.
@@janethmuganyizi3155 Aye and I agree. Shame there was no SPD x Mystic Force crossover special like its Super Sentai counterpart. It would have been awesome.
You know, personally the only thing I found rather confusing was the A squad betrayal. I mean there doesn't need to be a reason for Rangers to be evil, but I feel A-squad needed one because that whole 'we just wanted to be on the winning side' makes no sense given the fact that they learn Ranger history in preparation to join SPD and unless they were taught about Venjix or teams from the comics (and I mean the Boom! Comics which by the time of the Disney run weren't even a thing) that were defeated, then they should've been taught that no matter the odds the Rangers aka the good guys always win even if that meant coming back with new powers. Hell even if one can argue 'but Trubo Rangers lost!' That's fair but they joined Andros as the new Space Rangers and in the larger scheme of things came out on top just with a different set of powers. It's just the A-Squad thing always bugged me even if I find it amazing to have a full team of evil rangers (Pshyco Rangers being the best) I still think A-Squad in particular actually needed a reason specially given so Charlie is the first female red ranger we see on screen. Plus A-Squad was also a team comprised of humans and aliens.
There is no good and evil, it's all a matter of perspective. The A-Squad were bribed and bought in, they wanted money and saw an opportunity for advancement as they believed SPD would fall. It was fine conceptually, just executed in a rushed, poor manner like most of the 2nd half of SPD. There were behind the scenes issues.
the fact that a mix of aliens and humans were on the team doesnt have anything to do with their betrayal. plus there was only one alien and even if grumm was unable to convince the humans as easily, the alien ranger probably wouldve helped push their decision
@@foreignswaggersection6918 I never said the betreyal was because the team was a mix of aliens and humans, though. I just pointed out that the team was composed as such and had the first on screen female red ranger. Plus considering new tech city is made up of aliens and humans, having a team like that could've help eased tensions specially since they were considered the Elite team within SPD, it didn't as shown in the series with all the mistrust and prejudice but it could've help.
@@Knightfall182 yes I agree it is a matter of perspective even if PR can be mostly cut and dry with the whole 'good vs evil' (most of the time, anyways). And yes poorly executed, like I said no excuse was needed and I am okay with it I just personally felt that given they are taught Ranger history their betrayel needed an actual excuse or to be better expanded but as you said behind the scene problems and poor execution did not help
I don't have problem with them being evil, Charlie being the first female Red or the team being a combination of humans and aliens. I guess the concept of being bribed was already explored with Sky's friend, also a corrupt officer of SPD, but the details of A-Squad being evil are a little...vague. Still, a cool concept, and I like SPD for dare to do some interesting stuff.
I remember when this aired thinking this was a rather 'middle of the road' mediocre Finale..... but it's *damn Shakespeare* compared to what we're getting nowadays with PR 😄
SPD started off great, and got stupid by the midway point. As soon as we got into floating ball of light territory, I remember Rangerboard turning on Kalish
The finale to SPD is a favorite of mine because of how we see what all the characters become after multiple arks of progression and it's something that I absolutely love! Also, thank you for the shout out DB!
SPD was one of the best seasons Disney did though I agree that we should had more of a explanation of the A Squad and why they chose to work for Grumm.
It is understandable why Sky wants to become red and why he is insecure to Jack. But, as the series progresses, his insecurity for becoming blue has lessen to the fact that he even admitted that heroes comes in all colors. This development is the reason why he is one of my favorite blue ranger in PR series.
One of the best best seasons and as a 1991 baby this was one of the last seasons where power rangers felt like it was for me. I just remember after this season all i start watching was MTV 😂
For Sky being red ranger was about his dad and status. He becomes red ranger at the end but it’s not so much status but more accomplishing goal of being red ranger
SPD holds up incredibly well as commentary on police and issues with them that were always there but have become even more prevalent in our discussions now. It’s the kind of show we need right now. Truly something special
2:38 As you said "paragon of prejudice" and the scene of Sky plays, I know EXACTLY the line he is saying. That can't be a coincidence that you decided to show that scene lol
Tommy was the leader but didn’t wear red in MMPR after becoming the white ranger. And he could have been considered the leader in Dino Thunder after becoming a ranger again.
Morgana being Nova would've been a good twist. Maybe have her demorphed a bit longer before the wormhole takes her to make the audience and characters go, "Hey, wait a sec..."
I agree that SPD is much better than all the Neo-Saban (Dino Charge is great too). But I'm not sure about the Hasbro Era. Hasbro is doing a great job to Beast Morphers and Dino Fury.
I wish power rangers had a 10 years later type thing like Super Sentai. And SMF would've been way better if it were completely separate from Megaforce and they extracted keys from other ranger teams too, like Dino Charge, Ninja Steel, Beast Morphers, and Dino Fury.
My favorite season. I love the characters, the stories, the setting, the opening is without a doubt the best. And I love seeing videos like these about it. Great way of ending the year :)
I personally think the A squad deserved more character growth in the series. Like crugor doesn't simply put a bunch of random people into his elite squad just because they are well trained. Even Sky could not crugor's trust for becoming a leader. We should think how munch more special Charlei has to be , to become the leader of the best team under doggie. Yeah I know that they turned evil and thus become downgraded ,but they are something much higher to start with in the first place. The A squad is very underrated and much more overlooked than the other evil rangers like Psycho rangers and Spirit rangers. These people are picked up and trained to the best by Doggie Crugor, the best mentor in the whole franchise itself. I think one or 2 more episodes dedicated to them would be much more deserving to them, where they show a little about their past, their training, and how they actually ended up in Grumm's hands, and a bit more detail into how Charlie managed to become their leader. I am not saying that they should be good guys, they should be evil but a bit more deserving characters.
All I can say Is thank you for doing these videos, for years I’ve tried to explain to my GF the crazy mechanics of the PR. Only through your videos have I been able to explain how it is cool/meaningful… so thank you
You didn't do anything knowingly, but you brought me joy when I hated how I lived. Thank you for making what makes you happy, it's contagious in a good way.
SPD was the only season where the Blue Ranger usurps the former Red Ranger.. they did the opposite with TJ he was the Red Turbo Ranger and then got demoted to Blue Space Ranger..
ah jack is my favorite character in spd. i just love character that deserves as leader but he choose not to, giving a chance for those who relly wants it. and his spd era is reallyy brilliant
I'm not sure I understand your logic when it comes to arresting Mora (the child form of adult Morgana). You were right when you say she had the maturity of a child however that doesn't make her a child. I'm also not sure where you're getting that she maybe was as much a victim of Grum's as anyone. She was the brains of the operation, that's quite clear. Like in "wormhole" when she had to explain to Grum why they had to leave the time era of dinothunder before the wormhole closed and they would be stuck in the past and he didn't care so she explained to him...that he can conquer Earth now... but that would mean he would have to conquer all the other systems and planets again that he has already conquered...sinse none of that has happened yet...all so you can finally have some petty victory in conquer earth Here and Now. Also she could have been rehabilitated even though she was put in a card. It might have just been a sort of pragmatic solution for Krueger at the time to get her out of the way. I mean she even taunts him by asking "what are you going to do? I'm just a kid" and then he replies "use your imagination." I found Grum attempting to commit suicide quite disturbing when I was watching as a kid even. I could be mistaken on what you were trying to say so I stand to be corrected.
If I remember right, wasn't her child form even the result of Grum letting her be what she wanted to be... and actively used the threat of taking it away as a means to manipulate her? I do agree though that it struck me as odd given she was actively attacking Kruger and even the "monster destroying lethal move" isn't at all lethal or even harmful to her in the short term. Just locking in her the card doesn't mean she has to stay there post battle. I do actually like the idea that a grown up Morganna could have been Nova though.
@@PissedGrunty I think it's more of a matter of she approached him not him approaching her. So for all we know she could have had some kind of contract with him rather than its manipulation. Because she was much smarter and clear headed than him and Grum wanted her to come up with plans. I think she liked the deal they had made like she would draw him monsters or give him plans on "how to defeat the Power Rangers" she said "defeat their leader." As if Grum wasn't dumb enough to think of that... Sometimes Grum's patience with her would grow thin cuz she's deliberately stalling and not behaving. You could make the case that she was the one manipulating Grum in many instances. He even says he'll buy her a new Doll to make her happy( i guess that could be manipulation) and commands Broodwing to play tea party with her. She said they were mommy and daddy and Broodwing was their baby pet. I still laugh when she's about to give Grum this great plan she has but stops and says "you're not drinking your tea Broodwing..." and then Broodwing says "I'm not thirsty" and Grum slams his hand on the table and yells at him to drink it... as if there really was anything in the cup. He also had a fish bowl on his head so he couldn't drink anyway. This is pedantic babble I know. I just don't see how she's a victim on the level of being manipulated to the degree that he manipulates or supposedly manipulates everyone else. That's my take.
Given how she's an adult woman turned into a child instead of an evil child, I'd argue this isn't even really a debate to have. Morgana's an asshole through and through, her child form is just her payment for serving Gruumm.
SPD still in my opinion one of the best power rangers seasons in the Disney Era each ranger had their moments Even though three rangers have the main focus on which was Jack Sky Doggie Krueger Those three rangers had the most character development and the most focus on in the season but the other three they have their moments too to shine everything about the show was Jack is still one of my favorite rangers from the season I love his growth on the season he went for being petty thief who just want to help others to becoming the leader of the power rangers he was meant to be and live up to the Red ranger name and I love sky all he wanted was to be the red ranger but he had to grow into becoming a better person and led to him being the Red ranger in the end bridge is a prime example of comic relief and being serious at the same time Z it's awesome and she had a pretty good development Syd didn't have much development but she did grew as a character I know so she was really beautiful also my God she was hot Omega ranger was a badass and then I found out he was Sam this whole time and of course come on the shadow ranger doggie Krueger is a beast and one of the best mentors I ever seen power rangers everything about the season is amazing and ready gets dark it gets really dark easily one of my favorite power rangers seasons ever made up there with Dino Thunder and jungle fury
I agree with the critiques that the Mora/Morganna story should have had a better ending then just her going back to a child and being detained by Cruger on his way to Grumm. as well as giving A-squad more depth and explanation to how they went from Cruger's best to willingly siding with Grumm. I still found "endings" to be an enjoyable finale to one of my favorite seasons
Now that I think back, most finales from the Zordon Era through the Disney Era had pretty good finales and story arcs. Like the arc from Mighty Morphin to Turbo and then the arc from Turbo to Lost Galaxy. and Lightspeed Rescue and Time Force were amazing having young adults be Rangers. Then in the Disney Era Ninja Storm was great and Dino Thunder was one of the best anniversaries. SPD was great story arc wise. Mystic Force has several story arcs that were important and were fantastic. What they were trying to do with Overdrive was great but they couldnt get it done. Now Jungle Fury was great with young kids who lost their master who had to find a new one in order to become masters and save their friend from a monster who possessed him. RPM was one of the best with a whole seasonal arc. And after that it all went down hill because nobody knew what to do. They tried but it didn’t work. Samurai was good, Megaforce was okay, Super Megaforce started out okay then turned horrible, and every season after Dino Charge went bad
A really missed opportunity was them not expanding on the budding rivalry between Z and Morgana. That episode Morgana debuted in arguably had Z at one of her best moments. Can you imagine them broadening their backstories? Maybe have Morgana be an old protege of Z's with genetic gifts of Creation (by drawing) who was transformed into an adult by Grumm in order to get back at Z, who Morgana feels abandoned her when she became a Ranger. So many parallels. She could have been a corrupted version of Sam and what he could have been It would also contribute to one of the themes of the circumstances of one's birth not dictating their future.
It would’ve been cool if ALL the rangers got bumped up one. Z as Green, Syd as Yellow, and then they could’ve brought Sophie back as the new Pink. However, that would mean that Pink is somehow the bottom of the barrel as far as ranking, and I don’t think that’s true at all considering it was clear Syd was a better fighter than most of them.
I just finished watching Power Rangers S.P.D. straight through the first time about a month ago. It's now one of my favorite seasons of all time, definitely in the Top 3. I'm a big fan of the dialogue, character interactions, and character and team growth. However, there are some things I would've done differently. First off, I definitely would've incorporated A-Squad more. I remember the first episode when Cruger asked Skye if he would follow Syd's lead if she were chosen to be the Red Ranger. Skye dismisses this because she's female, only to find out later that the leader of A-Squad is female. So much could've been done with that story point. Also, in the last episode, Cruger tells Jack he's heard that Jack is leaving. Viewers can tell that this is going to happen, but we really didn't see the decision officially made before this moment. So when did Cruger hear about this, when the last time they were around each other was in their brief argument before A-Squad captured Cruger? Lastly, in the 2-part miniseries where Cruger becomes Shadow Ranger, I personally feel Cruger should've apologized to the team for snapping at them unnecessarily. He was the one who told Jack that a true leader earns respect by example. But that aside, mad respect for Cruger as a leader! Again, these points aren't knocks on the season, because the season is great, and I will be re-watching it when I get some time!
@@Knightfall182 but what about syd? She was at the academy at the same time as bridge and sky and she was also probably offered a promotion up to green. I'm not exactly sure how rankings work and how they work for spd, but I think they were based on skill sets and personalities. Syd has improved since the first episode so why didn't she get promoted? (Other than the fact that she probably thinks green isn't her color)
@@Knightfall182 Just bec. Syd is number 5 doesn't mean she needs to go to 4 first before 3. I think that Cruger offered the SPD Green to both Z and Syd, but both refuses since they're enjoying their respective colors.
@Disney Brain Question I know this doesn’t deal with power rangers but I watched your old Descendants Videos and it gave me a question so the question What do you think what would happen if Uma Join Jay evie Carlos Mal in descendants with Bens Proclamation to bring The VK’s to Auradon?
With power rangers still going through the main timeline spd has tobbe another timeline or universe to power rangers. Its 2021 in pr main timeline with not a single mention of spd, mutants or aliens living amongst humans which in spd timeline has all been known about for years
One question i do have is that since Bridge became the blue ranger at the ending, who took his spot as the green ranger? I'm sure needing a green ranger may not be necessary, I'm just curious
One thing I never understood is how Sam didn't know that A-squad were betrayers? Guy is from the future? Unless Grumm didn't reveal them in the future.
I am the only one who would like to saw that Sidney was appointed as the Red Ranger of SPD just to troll Sky?, it would be an alternate ending, but how about this: Krugger: Sky would you follow Syd if I appoint her as the Red Ranger? Sky: I would follow anyone you appoint as the Red Ranger. Krugger: Congratulations Syd, you are the new Red Ranger. Sydney: Oh my God, yes. Sky: yeah.
If that happens, Sky will accept Syd as a Red Ranger and will do his best to assist her since his mindset is not just being a Red Ranger, but being a Power Ranger.
ya know im not gonna lie, i dont rember cruger ever bringing up "ive kept tabs on all of your for years" also, woulda been cool if A squad was shown more and was more extreme despite being "the best" ebcause they belive that "being the best" lets them do whatever, and it couldve caused conflict with crugeur refusing to admonish them for it because "theyre his favorites" which coulda added an awesome relationship to cruguer and B sqaud as they both prove themselves worthy of his trust but he also proves himself worthy of thiers and not just cause hes thier boss. Not only that, the final fight where b squad almost effortless takes down A squad would be way more poignant with Cruger realizing he needs to reassess his priorities going forward. that said i loved spd as a season and it had a steller red and blue ranger who both grow in pretty awesome ways, as well as a stand out yellow and fun green. I cant say much about syd because i often forgetr her name and her character arc if she even had one
Weirdest thing to me is the chronology. Chronologically, the penultimate episode of SPD is "Insomnia" due to the A-Squad's betrayal at the end of that episode which led directly into "Endings." And yet the penultimate episode aired was "Resurrection" which was the episode that revealed the A-Squad to be alive. Whoops.
I wanna know like what was next since the blue ranger is now red like what happens next I wanna see a reboot in the year 2035 where we meet Sam and get to see how the rangers are then it be cool
Some RU-vid channels for whatever reason have one episode title, but then when you get past the opening credits, it’s a completely different episode. What’s with the false advertising?
Hearing all the legacy talk, made me realize something about Dino Fury that kind of annoys me. They had a world where dinosaurs lived in the modern era... Why didn't they base it in that universe?
Although spd is a great season, it still has problems, ill narrow everything wrong 1.Sam the omega ranger is annoying, the orb that he takes the appearance of, is just weird 2. Why is there a villain thats a kid? Thats a dump concept 3. The futuristic theme is a bit disappointing, half of the time its seems like the future and half of the time it looks like modern 4. I wish the main five rangers were a bit alien like, because it would have fit well with futuristic theme 5. Grumm would have better in a different season of PR, I would replace him with sledge instead,
1. It is a higher up decisions for Sam to become an orb rather than a human, which they admit is a big mistake. I think this is due to money. 2. You can also ask the question why there's a Ranger that's a kid (Justin)? Speaking of Justin, at least Mora is well written compared to him. 3. It looks fine for me. 4. I agree though. I wish there's SPD main ranger that's an alien as well. 5. Name a PR series where you think Grumm would be best fit into.
Unrelated to the topic in the video, every time I see A squad being led by a female red ranger all the way back in 2001 I am still disappointed that sentai has not yet had a woman cast as the red ranger for a full season. Yes, they’ve had ninja white as leader in kakuranger but she wasn’t given the same sort of standing as a red leader, and of course the female red in shinkenger/samurai was short lived. Sentai not doing it still is disappointing but they seem to be in an experimental stage with the teams they put together for zenkaiger and donbrothers. Power Rangers isn’t free from criticism either as they’ve had no issues making Rangers genderswap from sentai since mmpr, except for red. I hope if the rumors are true about hasbro potentially moving away from sentai footage to doing it’s own thing (which I hope happens as I am curious what they’d do with unrestricted original footage) and making its own teams and themes that they go with a female red soon. Also kinda curious what type of themes they might try if they go original that sentai either did more infrequently or never. Certainly more space themes is likely. But maybe they’ll try other motifs
so first i have to call BS that jack being black made his character arc work better. being failed by social systems has nothing to do with race, that ironically is the false narrative painted by the system for the purpose of dividing the populace to be easier to controle. just look at how said system treats black people who speak against that narrative, or in my own case gay individuals who don't like their prescriptions. I will agree Z was an amazing ranger, tied only with a bridge for the only good rangers of the season. As far as a privilege, how privileged was z and jack being legacy when all it got the is someone watching them suffer and doing nothing to help them. Hell as much as I hate the side her story actually counter and economic privilege arguments. what one person calls privilege can be the very bars that ruin another person. I can't deny jack and cruiser were horrible and that sam was more interesting before becoming a ranger. honestly, I think sam modeled himself too much after sky. Moyra being childish doesn't excuse the choices she made. every choice has consequences, that does,t make it any less a choice. weather it's moyra having to be an adult or sky joing spd to avoid jail time for theft, they both had choices. As far as the red ranger doesn't need to be the leader thing, that has been the case in multiple seasons. Tommy the white ranger was the leader for two seasons before becoming red, Jen was the leader for the beginning of her season before her desire for revenge got the better of her. At the end of the day spd was a letdown of a season with only 3 good characters in Z, bridge and cat; boom being a annoying comics relife but passible and rick being loveable. more cat ranger, please.
I think the parallel would actually be Hispanic people. They are currently literally facing the "foreign alien" stereotypes and prejudices that come with that. At the same time though, it is important to have an unbiased viewpoint because the fault lies with the United States/Canada AND Latin America. If there wasn't political unrest, human trafficking, and cartel culture, there wouldn't be the mass exodus of citizens fleeing their homes. The US doesn't do anything about the cartel problem because they are being paid off. It's tragic and we need to get on that shit ASAP.
