Picked this up yesterday on fb marketplace for $25 bucks from an estate sale. They didn't know anything about it since it was a company cleaning out the house.
Looked like it was sitting for 10+ years, the gas tank was a little dirty, oil was dirty, the air filter was older and missing the pre filter foam, spark plug is the right plug but tall and doesn't work w/ the off switch-shorting out the ignition coil and I painted the muffler.
Overall the unit isn't too rusty, good belt and a good blade.

I love mine! Got mine off a neighbor a few years ago, just decided to rebuild the engine, contemplating painting the power trim frame too.

I've actually never rebuilt one of these engines. I've rebuilt tons of these carbs, cleaned tanks from rust, converted some really old ones to electronic ignition from points, done a valve or two. I haven't gotten an L Head Briggs Engine lately. Maybe they are getting too old but a few years back it seemed like I was getting one every other week. They are very good quality machines, I prefer the Scag Edger but after that it's a Power Trim, then McLane. I'm not a fan of the little wonder edger.

Those things work great I love mine. I saw a lady putting one of those on the curb and I asked if she was throwing it out, she said go ahead and take it. All I had to do was put a blade and a band on it and it worked like new!

That's awesome, Sadly they aren't worth too much used. I want to say I could only get 100 or so out of this. The airfilter/prefilter alone were 20 bucks so once you figure that, blade, maybe carb gaskets, starter rope, time, and what you paid for it, there isn't much profit. I buy these more to bring them back as a hobby and to throw a couple bucks into my tool fund. However I do really enjoy bringing back the old Honda L head engines back to life.
