Ooh this is a great idea Tara! It’s an interesting topic, I watch a lot of RU-vidrs in other spaces like beauty and fitness etc. a lot of them accept sponsorships for stuff outside of their niche because they are using YT as an income source. It might seem random but I actually don’t mind it because it’s really easy to pick when the section of the video is an advert because it’s so left of field (I mean they do/should say it what is an advert and what isn’t anyway). At the end of the day, YT can be a lot of time/work and some people use it as a second job to pay off debt whilst doing something they enjoy, I can’t be mad about that 😊 everyone’s situation is different. I don’t mind if people get PR as long as it is transparent. Mostly I will accept PR if I’m curious, if it’s a small perfumer I want to promote or if it’s a company I have an existing relationship with. On one condition: I’m not obliged to say anything.

I've noticed some people prefer to only do ads for products that are not related their content. That way there isn't conflict of interest. So they dont get blamed for lying about liking something🤷‍♀️ that's an interesting perspective.

Wonderful video, Tara. I really respect you talking about this topic openly. I completely agree with you about not accepting PR from companies totally unrelated to the channel or from clone houses. That's my way of doing things as well. I had a real chuckle when you mentioned calculus...great comparison 😍

Roja does seem to be overly sensitive,appreciate your transparency.

I will accept period panties as i often get nose bleeds and would happily wear one on my head in a video.

I enjoyed this video and thank you for being honest. I have no problems with RU-vidrs receiving and using PR gifts as long as it is clearly stated. I do not believe for one minute that it does not influence their review and for me personally I would never buy a perfume from a house that constantly sends PR bottles to RU-vidrs - I am looking at you Roja. It would be nice if the bigger houses like Roja sent a bottle to someone who deserves it, like a nurse who worked during COVID, or donate some bottles to a women’s shelter, but that does not happen. My pet hate though is RU-vidrs who receive very expensive perfumes as PR, review them and then sell them for a substantial profit, why don’t they donate them to a charity, they were free for goodness sake. I have unsubscribed from a few channels after seeing this happen 😤

Fully agree with your stance on clones. The original fragrance is always the way to go.

😂 I’ve gotten those jewelry companies, colored contacts, eye glasses/sun glasses, Lily silk, and all those too 😂 Although I have said yes to some ancillary items that I love and use. Love your humor, Tara! 😘

Thanks for your honesty/transparency. It's also telling that Roja didn't contact you again after not getting the best review. I don't trust/ won't buy from companies that won't publish or support less than positive reviews, and some won't publish negative reviews, so no, they don't get my $$$. And, LOL, sending period panties is out of touch for a perfume chanel! We do not want to be thinking about period panties right now, thanks!

I'm not surprised you get offered makeup and clothes. Your makeup always looks great and you're fashionable.

Oh yes I’ve seen the rose boxes, the jewelry, glasses, the silk tops and Juliana or oakcha from many frag reviewers. I don’t begrudge anyone free stuff but I just fast forward. I kind of think it’s cheesy and it does make me feel less positive about the channel. So I appreciate your stance about what your channel is about. I have no problem with you taking frags if the review is honest. We do get the truth eventually when reviewers are lying about it. We expect your loyalty to be toward us not toward the marketers. I really value your thoughts and attitude toward this.

I loved this video, Tara! It's very interesting to see your point - especially as I work in PR and send some of these packages to other types of influencers. I'd say some brands are not doing their due diligence with the sort of odd things you get offered. BTW, didn't know about period panties - that's new to me. Tons of love to you!

I wasn't interested in clones either until I found that a couple of them don't have phthalates so I've incorporated a couple. How I wish the top perfume houses would follow suit. I don't need to know the entire ingredient list just assure me

Hello Tara, I appreciate your honesty. You have always been transparent when you talk about fragrances you get as PR. I think because you are straight forward and don't use this as a vehicle to get free stuff you don't cross a line for my comfort as a viewer. I stop following content creators who cross the line for me, which is usually when I feel bombarded with products I don't want to know about. Specifically products outside of fragrance related items. I thank you for your integrity and I don't mind hearing about the fragrances you genuinely love that you get as PR. Have a good day! - Jenn

Great video! I a former content creator, I always felt it’s important to have freedom with what kind of content you create with PR. I absolutely abhor it when they try to give you a script especially since some companies are not transparent. I had one like that and it did not go well and it turned me off of PR altogether. You hinted at that brand with racist tendencies and I cringe every time when a content creator works with them. I wonder if they just don’t know or are just doing it for the sake of a free bottle.

Yeah when it comes to marketing, glowing is growing. I could sure use some of those period panties though. Just to add exclamation to my underwear. PeRiOD. Also for girls that come over and "accidentally" forget theirs. Accidentally. I know. Bloody hell. ❣ They of course leave feeling clean and supported. What could be better. Great vid Tara!

Hey Tara, great video! It actually reminded me a bit of your tarable videos...really miss those 😢I used to rewatch them all the time whenever I needed them. You have no idea how much they changed my life so I want to thank you for that! 😃🙏I hope they might become public again someday. From what I've seen from other youtubers is that PR can also create so much clutter in your live of stuff that you don't need. Not to forget about all the packacking etc - environment. I think it's great if you really only accept PR of brands you know you'll love and use 🥰

Great video, I heard a RU-vidrs she once they accept PR the company wants them to send their video to them and if they don’t like what they say, they ask them to redo the video! They don’t want the truth!

Hey Tara 🤗 Interesting discussion. I’m pretty much on the same page. PR has gotten so pervasive, it’s nuts. I don’t even have a channel but a company sent me a few free products in exchange for reviews. This is a smaller company that I’ve purchased from for about a year and really enjoy their products. So I was happy to try out their new offerings, but I stated at the start of my reviews that I didn’t purchase them myself (like you see on the Influenster reviews). It was an interesting moment for this regular person. For companies, it’s amazing - the cost of their products is (usually) waaaaay less than marketing costs. For pennies, they now have someone talking about them; they rarely lose even if the review isn’t glowing (because most of the time, people don’t give outright bad reviews of PR, just lukewarm). Anyway, sorry to ramble. I rambled in my last comment on your Diptyque video although I suspect it got filtered. I should stop giving YT so many words to consider. 😂

Great video, Tara. I don’t buy as well cloned perfumes. Basically, for me, they don’t have any investment but to copy other’s hardwork and effort. But I don’t judge people using cloned perfumes due to price point of view. You’re really smart. 😊

Interesting subject ! We have to be very mindful when accepting PR especially when a channel like mine does a bit of everything 🤷‍♀️ I have a small channel but I get requests daily and refuse about 70% of the crap that is offered LOL Thanks for sharing 😊

After Ashton did his similar video, I thought more people might come out with videos like this. But most fragrance RU-vidrs have either sat on the fence, had a go at Ash for doing it, or defended specific houses that he mentioned (I wonder why...🤔) Good on you for doing this. Sounds like your experience with Roja was the same as Ash's too

Oh wow PR you turned down, that blows my mind. Actually, come to think of it, I have turned down jewellery and some attar oils. But I am not a youtuber, I am only on IG and I am small and not at all an influencer. So I wouldn‘t expect to get a lot of offers of PR. But I would not turn down fragrances. I think so at least. But yeah, jewellery, for someone who doesn‘t wear any (I guess I would wear goth type jewellery or some obscure stuff) but I would never do a video or photo of myself wearing it. Silly. I had to turn that down. This is a very interesting video, we don‘t hear often about PR that gets turned down.

I used to send a form "thanks but no thanks" email, but so many responded with next steps that I don't even reply most of the time. This week I got one for a hair loss system. Thanks Tara. The PR is not authentic to me. I guess everyone has their own opinion and why they do it. I prefer honest reviews without incentives and PR promotions.
