Emma shares her simple recipe for carrot cake porridge. This is the second in the series of Emma's Oat Cuisine and Emma is treating you once again, cake for breakfast!

Ingredients:
One carrot (approx 100g)
One orange
Oats
Currants/raisins
Low-fat milk or non-dairy alternative
Ground cinnamon
Ground ginger
Vanilla essence
Low-fat yoghurt
Nutrition:
Energy (kcal) 630.7
Fat (g) 7.6
of which saturates (g) 1.2
Carbohydrate (g) 113.4
of which sugars (g) 54.9
Protein (g) 24.1
Salt (g) 2.3
Fibre (g) 10.5
For the second in the series of Oat Cuisine, Emma makes her carrot cake porridge, great for a pre-ride breakfast. The recipe is energy-rich and packed with a great mix of complex and simple carbohydrates. These high fibre oats have a low glycaemic index, meaning you will have a slow release of energy throughout the day.

I made this tonight with no ride out in sight! I went mad with orange and not mad enough with the carrot, regardless, it is really very good! I'm inspired to mix up some more 'Oat cuisine' again soon. It's generally quite inexpensive and really very filling!

This is a great recipe! I make it for my wife and I twice a week, definitely our favorite! My wife is Chinese and couldn't believe carrot can be used in a cake so this weekend I had to make a carrot cake to prove that point. Great recipe, easy to follow instructions! Hope to see another porridge recipe!

Emma, Amazing! I made this but cut it by 2/3 just for me since I'm over 60. Didn't have an orange so I grated in a small Apple and added 1/8 tsp lemon extract along with the vanilla. IT WAS AMAZING. Hope there are more to come. Thanks.💙💚💛

I will try out this recipe for sure. I also want to thank you for this type of content. I think almost all amateur athlete takes seriously his food and cooking. Easy recipes with common ingredients like these one help you get out of the monotony

Yay! Another great tasty treat from Emma... so tempted to just make these great pre ride meals and then just skip the ride! Really nice to have some variation and tasty pre/ post ride meals to think about doing. Would be really interested in seeing some post ride meals as well. As we know your recovery is just as important as fueling your ride. One thing which Emma didn't mention was how soon before a ride would she recomend eating something like this before heading out? Great video none the less and thank you... Oh there oat so good!!

I didnt have yogurt or raisins, so i used 2 cups of milk and added honey on top it was super delicious!

Pistachios, chopped dates, and raisins in oatmeal. Some milk or yogurt. A little cinnamon. Some sugar. My personal favorite. These days you can get the pistachios already shelled. I like Emma's trick of just leaving in fridge overnight without cooking but usually I eat it hot. Shes right about not going for something like this if you are doing a bunch of HIT that day.

Great recipe Emma, I sometimes finally chop a green Beet leaf or spinach in my soaked oats for breaky before my ride, with half a banana and half my spoon of honey on top.

Soy milk has the same amount of protein in it.. without the added hormones and carcinogens and animal abuse contained in dairy milk. Great idea, just though if making it and searched for it and this recipe is great 👍

Is it possible to pour everything together and eat it without cooking or heating it? It's proven that oats lose some of its properties when heated. Thanks!

perhaps my favourite argument from the anti milk people here. "dairy milk has more fat then." Considering a ride can burn anywhere from 700-5000 calories, I am sure that the last thing a cyclist cares about is reducing fat (Same goes for carbohydrates btw) in pre long ride meals. Note* this differs from pre-race nutrition as intensity is significantly higher then in long rides.

I would recommend fresh dates, otherwise you're going to get a thicker and (for me) far too sweet mix.

Pretty sure 1/2 cup of dry oats on their own is considered one serving. not that I'm opposed to the recipe, it looks quite good, but that seems at least like 2 generous servings with everything together after its been cooked.

Bungle2010 No, it isn't. If I could find buffalo milk with 8% fat, I'd drink it. Did you know that vitamins in fat prevent calcium accumulation in your arteries? If you remove the fat, you increase the risk of developing atherosclerosis.

Cow's milk can legally contain up to 400 million pus cells/litre. So one teaspoonful of milk can legally have two million pus cells! Pass.
