I wish you had tried to break the skulpey 3 after resin. If it still cracked I wouldn't use it to make orders for customers. Love your videos. Your always so happy.

Yvonne.....Thank you for this comparison. I'm very new to polymer clay and am grateful for this information. I already have a little stash of Sculpey III and was slowly starting to get some Premo. This encourages me to play some more and see what happens. My plan is to make cabochons for bead embroidery, but excited to see what all else I can do. Thanks again!!!

My experience lines up with yours. I tend to use Sculpey because it's all our Joann's has and I can use coupons to get it cheaper.

I like the applicator tip on the resin ... The resin should stiffen it up fine ... Especially the idea of resin front and back ... Can you use Sculpeu III as a base for Premo ???

Thanks for the comparisons. I bake my premo pieces for an hour (at the recommended temp) and that makes them nice and strong. :o)

@@cocomoreno5907 I bake Premo between 265-275. I use an oven thermometer to make sure the temp is correct.

Yvonne how do you keep your leaves from curling when you bake them?
@MsLostnThought
@MsLostnThought 5 лет назад
The Premo has more plasticizers in it so it’s stronger. I’ve seen some clay artists add Premo to the III to make it stronger. Add some translucent to it, very beautiful effects! 😊
@MsLostnThought
@MsLostnThought 5 лет назад
Oh and you can cook the clay in an ice bath which some have said will make it stronger.

Hi Von, you mentioned in the video that you are happy you have the motor (1:30) hooked up to the pasta machine. I'm wondering what motor it would be and where you picked it up. Thanks Von for all you do.

Do you think sculpey 3 is worth buying? I was going to buy a sculpey 3 multi pack but saw a really bad review about how easily it breaks. I want to make some glass items without polymer clay mods on the outside. I also saw that quenching your polymer clay pieces can help make them stronger. Have you tried that and noticed that this helps sculpey 3 be less brittle?

Sculpy III and premo have different temps for baking the website dies not recomend mixing them, but if it is an experiment and a small bit,You could try?

Can you mix the Sculpy iii and premo?
@KalyanaDesignTutorials
@KalyanaDesignTutorials 5 лет назад
I said in my "Polymer clay for beginners" that the only place Sculpey III belongs is the trash can. Not only it breaks right after being baked, but it degrades over time and sometimes might crumble by itself . as for the mica shift appearing or not depends on the angle you cut re. to the angle the mica shifted.
@jameswitte5167
@jameswitte5167 5 лет назад
Humidity, temperature while working, toaster oven vs stove oven, baking time and temperature as well as clay age are all contributing factors to brittleness as well as manufactured chemistry ...
@KalyanaDesignTutorials
@KalyanaDesignTutorials 5 лет назад
@@jameswitte5167 Except that manufactured chemistry trumps everything. You can go by the book in all aspects and Sculpey III will still be brittle and breaking no matter what. Also, "clay age" is a non-factor. Polymer clay doesn't age. At least not by measurable factors at this point. I had worked with polymer clay over 2 decades old and some friends had worked with polymer clay over 3 decades old and it was still perfectly workable if conditioned properly.

@firstrealist1224

Very true, in my experience fimo is the best and most firm. Sculpey premo is just as good as fimo, just a little softer so In my opinion premo is good for kids and beginners looking for polymer. But I still prefer fimo, and I love to mix fimo and premo together, sculpey III and premo mixes makes it a little more firm but still sticky and falls apart after baking. Thank you for your video!

Primo is best for sculpting. It takes and holds details. Sculpy III is good for general use in jewelry making when deep detail isn't vital. I cook according to the new information put out by Sculpy - 300 degrees, not 275. I also bake for not less than 45 minutes, regardless of thickness. Tenting with foil keeps lighter colors from becoming dark during the bake. Many of my early projects were to fragile because I followed the 15 minute/1/4 inch rule. Brittle, brittle, brittle. Totally ashamed to even show or offer those items now. I do a lot of Mica Shift for backgrounds.

i'm starting claying with the inltent to make jewelry. either to sell, or give as presents. i had about 20 bars of sculpey 3 given to me. but, because of it's reviews of being brittle, i don't want to use it. how can i salvage all that clay? i got some sculpey mold maker (i want to do molding too). it says it will soften and recondition clays. then i see, mix with another clay, or add vaseline, or oil, or just use transluscent. but then if my beads are thick, is there chances of it not breaking? all this info on yt is overwhelming. ty if you can help me.
