It's finally fall in Arizona, and we're getting ready to plant out all our cold-season veggies! We're looking forward to growing root veggies (like carrots, beet, and onion), leafy greens (like lettuce, kale, and spinach), and herbs (like cilantro, dill, and parsley)!
After harvesting your summer veggies, you may be left with a sad looking garden bed. Ours were a couple of inches lower than they had been in the spring, but that's perfectly normal! Every time you water, the soil will naturally condense, and over the course of the summer, the nutrients will be absorbed by the warm-season veggies. Now that it's fall, we're prepping our beds by adding in new nutrients like compost or worm castings. Our favorite soil conditioner is made by Happy Frog, and it contains all kinds of plant foods!
What is your favorite cold-season veggie to grow? What new veggie are you going to try growing this year? Let us know in the comments!

Absolutely! Something I like to do is goto the bait shop and buy some red wigglers occasionally and add them to my raised beds and pots. Sometimes they stay sometimes they don't. It's cool to me when I go to replant things that have outgrown the pot and find them still in there 😊

Try growing in sand and pumice or volcanic rock with a layer of compost on top only. Mineral soils will grow great and you will mimic nature more closely. You will also not have the soil shrinkage like you do with compost. Try that experiment. It works for me in So. Cal.

Search your area for hydroponic shops or organic gardening supplies ,They usually have it in one or the other. If you buy it off Amazon it can get expensive

We buy ours from A&P Nursery, they have a few locations in the valley :D

Hi Greenies Garden, We live in Tucson and the area we live in has a horrible problem with gophers. We have tried everything possible to grow plants in the ground to no avail. So we have containers for gardening. You are using raised beds, could you suggest plants that grow well in containers please. We love your channel!

Oh man that is something we thankfully do not have to deal with here! Have you tried creating a box with a wire mesh bottom to keep them out? We have found success growing just about any veggie/herb in raised beds! This time of year is when you would be able to plant leafy greens (lettuce, spinach, kale, mustard, etc), root veggies (carrots, radishes, beets, onions, etc), and herbs (sage, dill, thyme, cilantro, etc). Hope this helps!
