I was in the pizza business for two decades and we used to fill a large chest freezer with bell peppers while they were in season. Great idea. I know this is not a new comment, but your videos are first rate. Based on your experience, I'm trying watermelons next year. Oh, and I've now got baking soda and vinegar in the bath. I'll try it out this week! Thanks for the great tips!

I just harvested Jimmy Nardellos, some New Mexico #6s (very mild heat) and red bells! I wasn't sure how to freeze the Nardellos (my first year growing them) so finding your video was timely and very helpful!

I generally just throw the whole peppers in a ziploc and stick them in the freezer--they never have stuck together (unless you forget to put the bag back in the freezer and they all thaw out, but I usually just toss those if that happens, or find a way to use them pureed or something). Then I can pull them out and use them--I usually am just grating some over my own plate of food, since my husband doesn't like things as spicy as I do. They taste just like fresh! I do like to roast and freeze both sweet and hot peppers though, and I like your tip about freezing them on the tray so they don't all clump together--I will use that from now on when I do roasted peppers. Thanks!

Hello Lola - Sometimes I will use the blender to chop them up for pepper jelly, in which case they all get frozen in one lump in a bag. Good to know that freezing them whole works too! I freeze my tomatoes whole and it works great. Thx for watching!

Awesome kim I have never tried to freeze them but will if I have a good harvest this season
@CaliKim29
@CaliKim29 10 лет назад
Linda Penney The great thing is you don't have to have a lot to freeze, you can do small quantities, whatever you can't use right away, then just keep adding to the bag as you get more. Thx for watching, Linda! Hope you have a great harvest!

The tip will be used a lot this year in my garden. I always hated how the peppers clumped together. Thanks for sharing the tip.

Hi Kim! That is the way I freeze my peppers. They last a long time in the freezer that way. I use your straw trick that I seen on a previous video. I should be doing my first major pepper harvest in a couple of weeks. I am going to try my hand at pickling peppers. Are those long red peppers, Jimmy Nardello's? That is one I may try my hand at next season. Thanks for sharing and have a great day!

dakotabob10 Yes, those are Jimmy N's. A fav. in my garden, and very prolific. They are so sweet blackened just a little on the BBQ! Thx for watching and good luck with your pepper harvest!

We grow way more in summer. It is very new to me so I couldn't be happier to have run across your sight! Look forward to more learning with you!!Thanks!

I have got to get another freezer.. I am running out of room. When the pepper thaw are they usually soggy? Excellent tip on freezing them on a baking sheet first. If i had room i would do that =) Thanks for sharing.
@CaliKim29
@CaliKim29 10 лет назад
Another freezer would be so helpful in preserving your harvest! They are soft when they thaw, but since i am using them in recipes, it works just fine for me. If you prefer them crisper, you can blanch them before you freeze them. Thx for watching!

RLSgardener good point. I tossed out 4 gallon bags of banana peppers last week. They changed color and were soggy as hell. I didn't cut off the top or into strips. I guess I will try this method this year
