Both casts had beautiful finishes and clarity. Looks like you could benefit from a vacuum pump to extract bubbles after immersion of the flowers. Have you done any figurines or sculptures? Perhaps some sort of wax sculpture or 3D print.
@EllafulDeco
@EllafulDeco Год назад
Thank you so much! I don’t think I’d use a vacuum chamber for resin because I use it for silicone and the bubbles need a lot of space to rise up. The resin would spill over the mold. Are you talking about a pressure pot? I haven’t considered that mainly due to it being an extra expense and the casts are coming out pretty clear without it. I don’t do any figurines or wax sculpting. I use a 3d printer (not much though) for any deeper molds I may want to make.
@robertmatetich2898
@robertmatetich2898 Год назад
@@EllafulDeco Vacuum boils the air out of the resin which is why it overflows. Do it before you pour to remove air that gets included during mixing. Maybe again after pour to remove trapped air - not sure about that.
@EllafulDeco
@EllafulDeco Год назад
@@robertmatetich2898 I could definitely try the before and see how it works. Vacuuming after pouring into the mold would spill for sure. Thank you for the suggestion!

These are sooo sooo beautiful! I want to do something like this for my mom and grandma for Xmas or mother's day. Does the resin stink bad like the one I use to coat my paintings? Do you use a mask? Also what if you did a thin Paper mache butterfly or made a clear butterfly from the resin w/a mold and colored powder or painted it with a thin brush. Then put it into the a small resin dome
@EllafulDeco
@EllafulDeco Год назад
Thank you so much! I don't know how the resin smells because I do wear a respirator at all times when working with resin. I would assume there is a smell. There is no smell once it's cured though. For something like this, you'll want to use a casting resin and not a coating resin. I linked the specific resin I used in the description. I'm not sure about the paper mache since I don't know if that would be resin safe. You can definitely embed other resin pieces into another. Hope this helps! 🙂
@kingphaze1
@kingphaze1 Год назад
@@EllafulDeco lol I may need a respirator cuz girl! It's like nasty hot glue on steroids lol gave me a headache for like 10 min until it started to be where I couldn't manipulate the resin anymore I had a filtered mask on but still. 😱 and it didn't know there was a casting resin vs costing resin. Thanks so much!
@EllafulDeco
@EllafulDeco Год назад
@@kingphaze1 Get yourself a respirator with VOC filters immediately!! It's not just for the smell, but to protect your lungs from the chemicals. Some resins may not smell like it, but they are releasing VOCs until they're completely cured. I'll definitely work on a video on resin safety soon. Resin comparison will be added to the list as well😊.

What size small did you use for the larger one I went to the link but I don’t know which one it was… these are beautiful. Question could you take a square mold and set the flower down into it rather than upside down?
@EllafulDeco
@EllafulDeco 2 года назад
Thank you so much! The dome is the 3" one and the sphere is the 2" one. For a square mold, you can definitely place the flowers facing you. I actually just casted some blocks that way and will be putting that video together once they're complete 😊

But how do you dry a rose where it keeps its shape? Ihave a particular dried rose I'd like to cast in resin, but it's shriveled. Would it still come out looking good?
@EllafulDeco
@EllafulDeco Год назад
Here’s the full video on how I dry roses: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jRfYTrp2u6A.html. How the rose looks now would pretty much be how it looks like in resin. I’ve seen lots of beautiful air dried bouquets preserved in resin.

Do you just dry the flowers or should you preserve them in the flower preservation silica??
@EllafulDeco

I’m not sure I completely understand your question. The flowers are dried in silica gel and then preserved in resin.

Yes, flowers have to be dried before putting them in epoxy or else they will rot in the piece. Here's the video on how I dried these roses: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jRfYTrp2u6A.html

My rose lost the colour when in the resin, any idea why this happened?

I am assuming that the rose was not completed dried or the piece has been exposed to too much sunlight.

How to pop the bubbles without a heat gun please?
@EllafulDeco
@EllafulDeco Год назад
A heat gun is probably the best option when it comes to popping surface bubbles. You can try a utility lighter, but I'm not sure how well they work. I got my heat gun for ~$30 on Amazon and it lasted me 2 years and still counting so I would suggest investing in one if you can.

Can you take a photo and cover it with resins
@EllafulDeco
@EllafulDeco 6 месяцев назад
You can definitely put a photo in resin. I highly suggest laminating it first because the ink may bleed. Since photos can vary in quality for the paper and ink (and to be honest, I'm not sure what qualifies as resin safe paper and resin safe ink), it's best to laminate the photo or any paper inclusions first just in case. I've used origami paper and cardstock to make trays in previous tutorials. You may find them to be helpful as the process is similar: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2-dGTz33AZU.htmlsi=XneRaJy5-3H2eQ2s
