Prime2D Demo - Full Playthrough [Metroid Fan Game] - No Commentary 

For those looking to download this demo, be aware that the link was officially removed by Team SCU for legal reasons. There are several backups available on the Internet Archive, however. Those who are disapponted this project was shuttered will be happy to know that I am still in fact working on my own Metroid Prime 2D with great progress after 9 years. I will not be releasing anything until the game is complete, but I do frequently upload small progress updates so y'all have somrthing to look forward to.

This is absolutely beautiful. To think Prime could be translated over to 2D is amazing

I love this so much, from a technical perspective and a fan's perspective! Some things I noticed: - The scan feature is incredibly well integrated. It feels just like the original in so many ways, but works as its own feature here too. It doesn't feel tacked on. - The way the visor's green light illuminates the environment is very pleasing to the eye and is executed spectacularly; I have to applaud you! - Samus's animations while looking around, shooting, landing, jumping, scanning, etc. are fluid and look great. I especially like when her visor's lighting effect follows the cursor and the animation of Samus looking back and shooting. - The music and sound design is perfect! It sounds so true to the original series but has its own soul and personality. The water, doors, enemies, footsteps, etc. all fit right at home in the Metroid series without sounding like a carbon copy. - I like how you made your own environments and gameplay in all of the different areas of Metroid Prime. You could have used it as a roadmap for the 2D version and it would have been great. Here, you make it your own game with your own areas that still gives you the feeling of MP. I could keep going but thank you for posting this! I am so proud of the Metroid community when I see amazing fan projects like this one.

This is amazing. It's the little touches like the sand blowing in through a doorway until in closes shut. So many games that go from screen to screen fail to pull this off. It makes it feel so much more immersive.

Super cool demo. Making the hive fight into a full shmup moment was nice.

Incredible. The scan visor looks so convenient. The moves are smooth, fire rate is fast. Graphics are nice too.

A lovely deconstruction, love the scan feature being added into a 2D metriod. Some fine sprite work, you have a great palette the colors are rather serene!

The level of world building artistry and attention to detail in this demo is astounding. Sure the music is weak but the gameplay looks engaging and fun. I would love to see environments in modern Metroid games look this nice!! Dread was an awesome game but the crossection of the world was just black space. This is beautiful!

2d sidescrollers with mouse aim are such an underrated genre. It allows for some much aim and control!

I'm really digging the flavour text and the lore hidden throught the levels. The fact that you can scan the environment with Samas' suit is an added (although, optional) bonus. You don't have to scan everything in order to progress, which is a nice touch. I also like that the game does a good job reminding players just how much she depends on her suit in order to survive in such a hostile environment. Without it, the radiation on the planet's surface, the native species, the weather, and even the fauna, would all certainly kill her.

Beautiful! Looks like an old Amiga game, with the 16-bit graphics. Always thought that the Amiga had an unusual look to its graphic and this kinda reminds me of that. Just beautiful!

I remember being on the SCU forums and seeing this in its infancy, back when the demo was just like 2 rooms. Such a shame it never got off the ground, though I hope to see someone take up its mantle someday.

I just realized the Dread team probably used this animation style as a waypoint to plan how Samus would aim around her body when she's facing one direction.

Ridley in this version really just went "We all know where this is going so let's just skip to the end"

It seems like it’s though to play without looking awkward if you don’t want to constantly be moving the mouse around even during simple exploration, to avoid Samus constantly be aiming behind her or something. Regardless, the animations are beautiful and it looks gorgeous. Reminds me a lot of Iconoclasts.

So I'm guessing Nintendo did the usual C&D to put a stop to..what looks and plays better than anything they've ever made. Know what? I sure hope the people who created this got hired by a game company. They deserve nothing but the highest praise.

The perfect evolution of 2d art and animation. Somebody update the NES/Master System/Genesis/SNES/NeoGeo/GBA library like this. Just build a huge retro-gaming remake library. Hopefully it gets done by next week.

Dude wtf? So good. Just a suggestion, Samus grunting when damaged isnt that good, a suit damage sound would be better imo.

I wish Nintendo would relax a bit on their IP. I mean, the creator never intended to sell this game. Look at the talent that put this game together.... It's AMAZING! You can't tell me Nintendo didn't see this and say to themselves, "Wow, this is impressive!" I mean, Nintendo could have reached out and offered this team a job!! I'm sure the developers behind this game would be more than happy for Nintendo to adopt the game and market it as a Nintendo product! The pure recognition of the team behind this game would be more than enough! Nintendo, as much as I love you. You seriously need to RELAX.

Has the team that worked on this gone on to do anything else? It seems like a shame to let all this work go completely to waste. This could be used as a base for an original game. Anyway, I will say that I'm not a fan of the rotating pixels in the pixel art. It just doesn't look very visually pleasing compared to having more individually drawn frames. I know it's quite a bit more work, but the result is absolutely worth it.

Metroid prime as a platformer I was hoping to find something like this, also idk if the brinstar theme is in the original prime ?

Samus is a Bounty Hunter. Why nobody never did a base game of Metroid, with a "planet editor", so the community could build their own missions, and add to this "base game", it's beyond my understanding; a real missed oportunity. The base game could start with Samus ship docked in some civilized planet. The "missions" created by the community would be accessed in her base (or ship). Select one mission and BANG! you have a new metroid mod game inside of a same consistent game. This idea, is based on Streets of Rage Remake and it's SoR Maker mode, where people has a set of tools to design their own adventure. The only difference, is that this Metroid game should have a in-game hub to select the mods, that would be designed as "missions available".

This looks so good, knowing Nintendo I hope it doesn't get taken down. I'd love to play the full thing someday

I was talking to Doctor Boreanaz about this game and he was overjoyed.

It looks great. Only problem is lack of feedback when you are blowing up items hiding in secret walls - like when she got the morph ball. There was no way to know they had blown up the root already. A change in texture would do.
