To make cooking easier, I have created a collection of bowls, plates, pots... out of clay. Some of them broke after firing, but this is the clay pottery collection that I am most satisfied with. From now on I can cook more delicious dishes.
HAPPY!

Nope but it looks like fun! But to be honest, a kiln has to be rather large (the walls thick to hold heat) and fire should be constant for two days then slow for half let it cool slow. Lots of charcoal and dry wood my friend! It’s no wonder that coal and oil were the industrial boom they were! Its like stored solar power! Green wood collected last week won’t work because it’s bad idk why Next time go shops pull them out of the fire like all look what I made! Tea pot you didn’t even make dozens of perfect little cups yeah man but you doing great work bro I’m happy to watch ads for you but you can have my membership money instead!

The most durable would be casting in a mold. Thickness grows over time passed. 2nd to throwing as you are in control of the thickness. In both examples the material is homogenous (one piece) . You could put a slab over a form for the same result. Put the form on the wheel and drape a slab over then shape and finish.

Good work !! ..greetings from Spain ! ;-) It all depends on the clay = Primary clay or kaolin: It is not very plastic, but it is the common component of clay pastes and glazes. Its glazed version, known as moloquita, is used in many clay pastes such as chamotte. Spherical clay: Secondary clay is also known by this name. In itself it is very plastic, too. When it is fired, it acquires a white color, which is one of the basic elements for the production of porcelain and earthenware. Earthenware: It is very difficult to find it in its pure state. In the usual cases, it is a mixture of secondary clay and other minerals that improve its quality. In its natural state it has a grayish color that turns white after cooking. Red surface clay: it is the most common among natural clays. Characteristic colored iron oxide, added to silica and clay, promotes vitrification. Refractory clay: it is known to be the one that was previously exposed to high temperatures. It is obtained from veins close to coal and can be used alone or mixed with other clays. It is also commonly used to make fire clay after it has been baked, ground, and reduced to grain. Bentonite: it is a mineral very similar to ceramic, which is usually added to various clays to improve plasticity.

I think making a pottery wheel would be more efficient than your current method. U could also utilise your water wheel to give power/movement to the pottery wheel thru some axels

@StuffandThings_ 2 года назад
@@PrimitiveSkillsnet When you do that, make sure you can swap it out for another tool. That water wheel could prove very useful for a grindstone so your tools can be more easily sharpened - after all, both should be the same shape anyways. Similarly it could be useful for grinding grain but perhaps its best to save the waterwheel for only the most tedious and essential tasks - it looks like you have other ways to deal with grain.

Apparently, the transmission of torque will need to be turned at least 1 time through 90 degrees, for this you need either a belt or gears .. Any of the methods requires a more powerful wheel ..

I've missed you a lot! You're one of my favorite channels by far! If you haven't made a pottery wheel, then maybe that could be your next build?? Using cement to make the wheel base and use rope and makeshift wood foot pedal to make it spin?? Would be an easier build out of cement rather than wood in my opinion and would greatly help in your pottery making skills and it would be faster to way to make pottery in my opinion...

I found that the coil method works really really well you basically roll out a thin line of clay and wrap it as big as you need for a bowl or a plate or a cup. You then smooth down the insides and outsides then fire it. it holds up really well. If you need to make candles you can integrate that with the coils and it creates a stronger bond at least in my opinion

Also! Have you considered building yourself some form of Mattress with all that cotton? You could craft a bed mat like you did with those leaves and use cotton to put between two layers of those sheets to serve as a more comfortable bed? I was also thinking of a pillow as well. They're high levels of comfort, but having better sleep also means more energy 😅

Pure clay will tend to crack when baked. Adding some reinforcement to the mix would be best, similar to how they add fiberglass fibers or rebar in concrete, the mix needs something in it to strengthen it. Also figuring out a way to coat the outside of the pottery with something could also add strength (similar to how enamel or glaze coatings are used. I am not sure of the materials you have at your disposal, might take some research and testing to figure out the best methods. Also, you might try making the pottery thicker at the bottom, the thicker the material the more stable it will be, especially at the base of the sides and bottom. Just a couple thoughts that come to mind.

Have you ever thought of glazing your pottery after you make it or finding something natural to use as a glaze , it will protect it & give it a hard finish . I’ve heard of fire glazing , that’s where once you have fired your clay & it becomes hard & cooled you put your glaze on then heat your pottery back up at a lower temperature & let it cool down it should give it a glass like appearance . I don’t know what in nature you could use as a glaze that’s is food grade material . Try a watered down clay maybe that could work . I have heard that sand , flint , quarts & sandstone make great glazes if you can find some of these Materials you may have yourself a base for a glaze . Just crush it into a powder form & lightly add water to it to make it like a paint, paint your pottery, then fire it at a low temperature you should have a finished product . Can’t hurt to test try it right .

It would be better if you worked with clay slices so the density of the clay was the same on both the top and bottom. By Rolling as you are doing is ok but cracks can appear at the end, particularly if you clay shrinks a great deal in the firing. Slices are made with string or fine wire. Most clay pots are coil made which also eliminates the density problem, and the clay can be firmer so the shape can be more controlled. If you fire up slowly and for longer you’ll get a better product. If you work with soft wet clay your result will be heavier.

You can also make the plate on which you make pottery rotate from the wheel, that is, make 2-3 gears, one of which will be nailed to the rotating wheel, and the second will lie horizontally and rotate due to the nailed gear

You need to grog your clay. Next time you do your clay mixtures grind up your missfires and add a little bit of it to the fresh clay. Kneeding a handfull of finely ground prefired clay will reduce shrinkage and help stablize the clay, reducing cracks.

Good job. The ones that didn't "ring" can be refired. Since you don't have enough heat to glaze them, you can use a smooth stone on the leather hard pot, rub, rub, rub... It helps to make them more watertight. Just Ducky Pottery.
