Printing with Super-Saturated Nylon filament | What'll Happen? #1

Nylon is an extremely versatile filament but it can be difficult to print with due to its hygroscopic properties.
Nylon needs to be printed directly out of a dry box or else it will become saturated again from the moisture in the air. In this video I decided to take that to the extreme by exposing the Nylon to a 97% humidity environment for over a week in order to fully saturate it.
Then I tested it by trying to print with it which didn’t end up well as it clogged my printer in less than 2min. Not only did the saturated nylon clog the printer but it even created visible steam while printing which can also be seen in the porous prints that resulted from this attempt.
Overall do not print with saturated nylon as it won’t end well & you should always thoroughly dry your nylon even if it was new and came sealed.

super cool, now try completely desiccated filament and see if there are any down sides to that.

Coincidentally I actually keep all of my filaments in a “heated closet” I put together which is held at a humidity of 11-15% & 115-123°F. Nearly all of the filaments I use including those that I use for client prints are from filaments which have been dried initially when I get it & further dried for weeks if not months in that closet. Had amazing results so far like being able yo print Prusament PETG at crazy high temps like 285°C with little to no stringing & great print quality 🙌 Plus since it’s printed at such high temps the prints have better layer adhesion & I can even print faster without much detriment. Only Con I’ve noticed is with filaments like Nylon or carbon fiber filled filaments which can get excessively brittle due to all the drying. But other than those specific filaments I haven’t had any issues drying filaments to the extreme 😁

Accidentally printed with some wet nylon today and boy was that depressing. 12 hours into a 13 hour print, it ran out of filament, i only had 5kg spools so i just grabbed some and loaded it up and the top of the print was destroyed with stringing and literal water boiling inside the filament. Had to redo the whole thing with non fiber filled nylon since i didnt wanna dry the gf stuff. Oh well.
