My sister and brother are deaf and we are from Ireland so as you probably know catholic priests and nuns basically ran our country up until the last thirty years they had immense power everywhere especially in schools. Unfortunately my sister who is now 36 was sent to a boarding school in Dublin for deaf and mute girls and child abuse was rampant even the night men were coming into the dorms and molesting the girls that were mute because they believed they could get away with it. That was st Mary’s school for the deaf in Dublin. They neglected to mention his name during the Mass and when we complained they mispronounced his name. When he died they only sent the priest out because I worked for the church. Meanwhile, an Adventist chaplain from the Philippines was much more helpful to our family. We didn't bother to have the Catholic church do the funeral. Right after that COVID hit and when other parishoners died, the Catholic priests wouldnt even go to their homes because they were afraid of the virus. A LOT of people left the church after that.

What's really weird is court. A judge wears a gown, holds a special hammer, sits on a throne & when he walks in the room the guards say "all rise for his highness" basically, & he alone decides your fate based on his opinions & his mood. So crazy in 2020.

One of the most tragic yet hilarious moments of my life was the funeral of my mother, who converted to protestantism on her deathbed desite having long since been a "nonbeliever" or at the very least a sceptic of religion. Among the people attending the service, there were at most three people who could be described as somewhat religious, of a crowd of around 30. That was awkward already (my cousin showed up dressed her usual self because she was a goth at the time, so her wardrobe was all black already), but the highlight truly came after the eulogy, at which the pastor completely and utterly failed to have anyone join him in song. One of my uncles, who was sitting behind me, began melodically repeating "I don't know how this song gues" and the like under his breath and around twenty mourners had to pretend they were crying to hide the fact they were silently laughing their asses off.
The only difference in "settling out of court" and "bribery" is the way they're spelled. "I'll give you 2 million now if you don't bring this to the light and soil my name/actually hold me accountable for my actions" ...that's what settling out of court means to me. Everybody wins? MAYBE in SOME cases.
America should take the option to drop charges away. Too many people are abused into dropping charges or just pay away the charge. It's disgusting that the american justice system lets people get away with sexual crimes like they do, anything violent should be arrested and prosocuted. When my mother passed back in the late 80's, we had a friend of a friend recommend a baptist priest. He never met my mother, came over the night before the service, got some basic information and then acted like he knew her for her whole life. Granted that for others it was probably comforting, but of all the people there only my stepfather and me knew the truth....this guy was lying his ass off and, while I've never been all that religious, it offended me in a big way that I can't really explain....."shrug"

I'm 38 years old and grew catholic in a small town in michigan. Before we could make communion we had to go to a seminary. We are talking 8 years old. Me and 2 other guys actually made a pact we don't go anywhere without eachother because the since of predation. The place was smelled of mop water with endless hallways and a bowling alley downstairs in the dungeon. I'm a ironworker, I have spent a few nights in jail and drove a truck in Detroit and to this day it was the most scariest place I have encountered. I find myself wondering how did we know this at 8 years old?
Good instincts. Maybe your parents were smart and taught you some logical stuff when you were little? Having good mentors can help a lot with avoiding traps, I would imagine.
A priest changed my view of the church, no funny buisness but he had a disagreement with my dad about keeping the school open. My dad was terminally ill and on his death bed my dad wanted to apologize for the disagreement and the the priest refused to forgive him on his death bed and then years later lied to me and told me my mom filled my head with lies about it and he never did that even though I was there. You couldn't disagree with him cuz he thought his word was God's word.
