IMHO these are a great bang for your buck if you need to get a boat load of I/O into a hybrid system. You can find them used for next to nothing Digidesign hardware isn't known for being the best, but you'll likely find a PT setup in every studio from coast to coast. And that's why you find so many used ones available. If it craps out, you can buy another one, probably with cards included.
This is the external I/O Box for all connections, like Analog, AES/EBU, ADAT and this is connected to the internal installed Protools Card in your PC, like HD System, HD Native, HDX etc.
I'm curious: I'm currently running a Pro Tools 11 standard rig with Focusrite converters. I'm planning to expand my channel count, especially since my studio may be getting a console in the near future. I've been looking at used 192I/Os for that upgrade. In addition, I've been looking to finally upgrade to Pro Tools 2020. Obviously a TDM card wouldn't function with the newest version of Pro Tools, but would the 192? If so, what card would be best for it? HD Native? HDX? Thanks.
This expansion gear, works on TDM Cards until Protools 10 or on a HD Native or HDX System. IMO, you need only the adapter cable from the small expansion connection from the HDX/HD Native Output for this older I/O Interface.
@@wolfwarren6376 In the most cases a HD Native System with some I/O Interfaces and a good PC/CPU is sufficient for standard works. If you have more realtime aplications, a HDX System is very good or you can use the new MTRX interface from Avid.
Yes, these are standard DB25 connections, you need only a multicable from DB25 to XLR for in and output. AES/EBU is the same and or use ADAT lightpipe toslinkcable for 8 channel digital optical connection for other DA/AD or to your mixer etc. TDIF is only used for old digitalconnection with 8 channels, like ADAT.
With DSP TDM Cards it works only on 32Bit Protoolsversion until PT10. For newer Protools versions, you need a HDX DSP Card or Omni Card, possible with a Interface, on this is a legacy port to connect this old Digidesign Interfaces. May be you can connect it directly to a HDX or Omni Card, I'm not sure.
