I'm sorry that happened to you. But, I'm glad you identified them as frauds before anything else happened. How did they know you donated to that charity? Was the charity hacked?
Good morning young man, I woke up at 3am and still awake when your video popped up so l watched it all, ten minutes worth watching and below is how l would deal with a similar situation. For the sake of clarity, l am not a solicitor or legally trained. What is written below is what l would do in this situation and is written in good faith. Always seek professional legal advice if you are uncertain about a situation where the law applies. Also, Scottish Law differs slightly to English Law. Immediately contact that charity by phone and in writing asking for written confirmation on headed paper that you do not owe them any money. In BOLD and UNDERLINED placed in the centre of all correspondence write, WITHOUT PREJUDICE. This reduces any bad feeling and usually means you have protection in the content and context of your letter, .not always but in most cases. You must send all correspondence by Special Delivery, it is the fastest and most secure way. They can send a response by email providing it is from their charity or company email address and not a personal one. Do this now! If you owe any money to an individual, company or such like (not a local council) they must follow a procedure to recover a debt. That being, written requests for the debt, written warnings and written letters of Notice. A letter of Notice starts at 21days usually, then 14days and then 7days giving warnings of court action. If ignored, you would probably loose in court so always contest the letters if they are wrong. All action by a court is issued directly in writing. Even if you loose on court, you will be notified and if no payment is made to clear the debt and bailiffs are involved as l understand it, you will be notified. If anyone ever rings demanding money, claiming to act on behalf of a court demand that they write to you on headed paper and NOT by email, emails are usually much easier to fake. The above is what course of action l would take and as such may not suit everyone's situation.
Thank you for your advice. Since matter in question was from 2018 and scam happened in July of 2020 I couldn't remember all details. After receiving a call I had a look through my records and confirmed my suspicions. I later that night went online to get contact information for the charity and their website had a anaunsment about the scam. I contacted them in the morning and gentlemen call me back to confirm it was a scam. This is not a first time it happened, there was call from fake tax office and some genuine companies who result to very dodgy practices which I consider to be fraudulent. I thought it is worth having it in public with the hope that someone may learn from it an will not fall for it in the future. Once again, thank you for your reply and sorry for waking you up in 3am!
@@weld-deluxltd7635 Can you ask the charity to purge their system of your information? I realize it's too late regarding the frauds whom contacted you but it might help prevent other events.
@@weld-deluxltd7635 People need to let each other know about these criminals. I get calls every now and then. And that is hwy I worte what I did so people can have an idea of how I deal with fake claims. I woke up with a cough young man, not your video to blame so no need to apologise.
