The lack of progression based off of performance drives me insane

My biggest issues with MLB progression/regression is the cliff the players fall off of once they hit 10 yrs of MLB experience regardless of how they play in the game. And 90% of the prospects are severely underrated to the point that they dont progress fast enough and high enough to replace the aging stars. Look at Junior Caminero in the current default roster file and you wont see a player that hit .324 with 31 bombs in A & AA last year. Elly de la Cruz had the same problem in his initial ratings last year. It's a two-pronged issue that they dont care to fix.

Yes! The 10 year service time cliff is the single biggest complaint I have about the show. It’s absolute nonsense and such a pain to overcome because you’re constantly having to edit a players ratings if you want to keep them competitive. For a young superstar who debuts at 19-20 it’s ridiculous to think they’ll start tanking at 29-30. They should be able to perform until the mid thirties like everyone else.

@@VonRyeI sim all my seasons and only play the last series of each season but I do find it annoying when players are still in their twenties and are already regressing but my biggest issue I have is once you get to all the CPU generated players how pretty much every player can hit 25 or more home runs every year and basically your whole lineup hits 20 or more home runs🤦🏾‍♂️

A huge issue is as you get further along in franchise, a lot of quirks do not show up in drafts nor are earned at all making progression even worse. I have come up with a system within reason that 'corrects' the fact a player of Harold Ramirez caliber having a career accounts for. I do look for hidden gems and don't care about OVR especially if I am going to be utilizing the players and not simulating a ton. The Custom Game Entry feature is very nice and can make using these lesser valued talents useful. The CPU does have an issue with RPs & CPs though, they still constantly have rosters where they will have >6 SPs on the MLB roster, I've seen as many as 10 and log jamming positions for no reason (even if a player can play DH or another position) they eventually cannot afford players because of careless moves (moves even a real GM would never hear the end of).

Hey Jacob, great video. Your emphasis here about taking matters into our own hands as players resonates with me. I'm glad someone else is saying it! What I've done in the past and doing it again this year is creating "player goals" before the season begins. If they hit those goals, they get a bump, if they don't, they get some regression...all tied back to the attributes that consider the goal. Ex. Player A's goal is hitting .280....if they accomplish it, they get some bump in contact attributes. I'll have to consider something like it for potential too. Anyway, you're not alone lol...thanks for the video!

back in the day i used to play a ton of 2k baseball but have had xbox for a few generations now & just got back into mlb the show a couple years ago. your vid’s helped me catch up on the ins & outs. i definitely started editing players recently based off performance on my team & others to try to make the game more realistic. i also look for hidden gem players as you mentioned but not usually for my team, i’ll get them & trade them to others to balance there roster since i noticed the cpu doesn’t really do it themselves

It's a decent amount of work but every year I go around the league and adjust some potentials based on performance. The fact is that we shouldn't have to do that but it is what it is. It helps me get a little more into my league tho. Edit : I do also usually wait for a 2 season sample, because we've seen guys have great seasons and then fall back to reality. So I usually wait for them to put together 2 great seasons to adjust their potential

@@brianforney2231 not exactly, like I said here I'll wait for at least a 2 year sample size of good performance and let's say a guy around 75-76 overall is putting similar stats to in this video I'll bump him up to around 84-85 potential and same with regression 2-3 years of poor performance then I'll lower potential a bit nothing crazy

In my franchise I usually play to the best of my players strengths. I almost always play as Washington which has Joey Meneses on it. He's a C rated player but his service time is I think about 1 year and he's 30-31 I believe. He hits soo amazing as my 3-4 spot as a DH for cheap. I could go out and get anyone I want but he's a masher for 700k a year. I also usually put more stock in defense in my heavy traffic positions, even if they aren't excellent hitters or even average. I have a B rated player in my CF and SS right now, neither can hit to save their lives but they are dimond rated defenders. If they can keep the Opp from scoring runs my 1-5 hitters can do their jobs. I try to leverage what my players are good at so I never consider myself having a failed draft, I just have to figure out where they are the best.

Player development is the worst thing about franchise along with a plethora of other issues. The progression of players is an absolute joke, you’ll have an MVP season with one of your stars and barely see any progress towards their overall. As soon as they hit 30 (this goes with every sports game too) devs seem to think that they’ll just retire or fall off tremendously.
@ParamoreFAV3
@ParamoreFAV3 10 дней назад
I really thought I was the only one; but I literally go to every team and edit stars, role guys, Triple A, Double A players to make sure their potentials are realistic and if they’re coming off great seasons, I just can’t allow the game to just have them fall of a cliff after these seasons. It’s so bad man smh.

MLB The Show 22 was the last one i paid for. It was just the same as the previous years. But they took away the play the games to earn a better rating though never picked up number 1 in the draft.

Out of curiosity does training really matter in spring training. Is there a gain to it or is it mostly for regular season
@JacobReid
@JacobReid 3 месяца назад
Your players ratings change each time you advance from one month to another. The only time you’ll see training make a change is going from the last day in a month to the first day of the next month. I do think this applies to spring training also, but I have to test that
@jonesvaughn8946
@jonesvaughn8946 2 месяца назад
But their play on the field can affect their potential going up or down because I had a outfielder that got injured and was out for a few months and I had a backup outfielder sitting on the bench that was a B potential so I put him in as a starting outfielder until my original outfielder was healthy again and the backup outfield started playing well as an everyday outfielder and about a week later of being a starter his potential went up to an A potential and I've had A potential players who've played poorly for most of the year and their potential went down to a B potential.
@sawyerhiston4637
@sawyerhiston4637 Месяц назад
The annoying thing is that once a prospect reaches its max potential they instantly start regressing no matter if they’re 30 or 25. I have to adjust ratings along the way so players can develop realistically
@JacobReid
@JacobReid Месяц назад
I agree. The mode is pretty much dependent on adjusting players manually. It’s unfortunate, because the starting roster and ratings don’t align at all with the progression system. If you start as a rebuild team, it’s almost impossible to naturally match the overalls over good teams deep into a franchise

@@JacobReidhave you had any problems with the season ending awards for instance I have players on my team that has won cy Young and MVP awards but wasn't selected as all stars in those seasons they won those awards which is weird to think that a player can win the cy Young award or MVP award but not be selected as an All-Star🤦🏾‍♂️

The issue is C potential is supposed to represent MLB Average. Problem is Avg MLB players are good players. In the video games, higher ratings typically mean a better team. It creates a world where only A Potential players are the only efficient option to making competitive teams every year. Franchise becomes boring unless you manually make other prospects A Potential. Allowing other teams to have A potential also makes it fun

It would be around where it’s now, mlb uses the past three years to do their overalls. I agree the progression system needs tuned and tweaked. But Harold wouldn’t jump huge just because of one season of playing well.

The logic makes sense for how they generate ratings for the base game. However, once you start playing your own league there should be a real progression system that allows players to get better after a good season or decrease after a bad season. How about progression and regression sliders. I think the issue this game has is that it's had the exact same ratings with nothing added for a very long time. How has the game of baseball changed and this game has managed to change with it?
@brandonbaird3917
@brandonbaird3917 Месяц назад
@@jayfeev215 players do progress and regress in the game. Player progression is based on potential and how well they play, we will use skenes for example he has A potential if he was to play great his overall would go up, but mlb also does the opposite if a player plays really bad not only can his overall go down but his potential can go down. It updates monthly during the season and you can track it. It’s actually a nicer system than a lot of sports games once you figure it out. Regression really starts to hit players who either hit 10 years of service or are over the age of like 35.
@jayfeev215
@jayfeev215 Месяц назад
@brandonbaird3917 I know there is a progression and regression system. What I said was a "real" system. The current one is very arbitrary. I do understand that it's there and that they have those training sessions you can assign to players, but that is the extent of it other than performance. I don't know if you don't play any other sports games, but this is the absolute worst progression system in the sports titles I play (And I play the Show, 2K and Madden...sometimes). Madden's system has progression and regression sliders that take position into account. It has a continuous progression system, too, that gives opportunities to increase dev traits, earn xp increases and that xp is awarded for actual in general on the field performance week to week that you can actually see. They finally added training drills back into the game and your coaching tree helps unlock more focused training slots. I think I've got it all. 2K has a more rigid system. You can again assign training sessions to players individual and assign team training sessions of many different types for the team as a whole. You can chart the actual progression of each individual training and see the progress to the next point on a graph. There's a raw potential number that could be misleading because the players Min and Max potential could be way different (for example a player could have an 85 in potential but a Min of 74 and a max of 78. The Boom, average and bust features help develop badge progression. Coaching staff and there badges help develop the team as well. This game also has very in depth progression and regression sliders. I'm not sure why you would think that MLB the Show has a better progression system than these two games, but I guess you have your reasons. I think MLB is a good looking game and it's a decent game, but that's just it. It's not good, it's decent. Lacking in so many areas (I'm only speaking of Franchise mode), missing so many things that make team building interesting and it's severely limiting.
