ABOUT THIS VIDEO:
For today's tutorial Gesswein sent me their micromotor system. Well, actually they don't even know I have made a tutorial on it, but I am guessing they will find out shortly. I just wanted to share my first experience with you. And it is an awesome tool as you can see in this video. Please do keep in mind that even though I have been gifted this micromotor, that I am not being paid in any way to promote Gesswein or their product. I truly like this company and the people who work there.

Bregje, thanks so much for your review of the Gesswein system. I found it extremely helpful, in that I had ordered and received the Foredom quick change handpiece for my Flexshaft and then saw your review, which was the deciding factor causing me to return the handpiece to the distributor and apply the money I just saved toward the purchase of the Gesswein system instead. Win/Win! Also, I’ve always purchased my supplies from a distributor on the West Coast. It turns out that Gesswein is based in my state and is only 15 minutes from me!!! (Doing the happy dance.). They were most helpful. I will continue doing business with them.

Ohhhhh, only 15 minutes away. Robin, I am a bit jealous of you (my wallet isn't). Gesswein has great tools! Are you already using this one? I haven't touched my flex shaft since I got this one. I am such a fan. And just in case you don't know yet, if you do order at Gesswein, you can use the code EST21. That will give you a 5% discount and you are supporting my channel at the same time.

Bregje, I am so happy you made this video. I work in SS, copper, and brass. I want to upgrade from my flexshaft. All my research indicates I need high torque and low speed for stonestetting, so I am curious if you have encountered any problems with this machine stalling when you are grinding or cutting seats. Thank you so very much, you are awesome!

Thank you so much for the great review, Bregje! I have been trying to decide which one to purchase and I'm definitely buying the Gesswein. It looks so much easier to handle and more precise than the flex shaft! I love your videos!

Great review on the Gesswein micro-motor. I have a cheap one from Amazon and really like it although it dose not have the torque at low rpm's to drill. Bought it to try and see if I would like a micro-motor before spending more on a better made machine and I do. Your review of the Gesswein has convinced me to save my pennies for a better machine. I'm also really impressed with the hammer handpiece. Thank you for this tutorial and also to Gesswein for supplying the machine.

Bregje, I loved the high speed clean up - a bit of comedy is so well received! Great video, I've already shared it to 3 people that have asked me about my micromotor preferences. The torque generated by a flex shaft - that long shaft spinning has inertia and causes movement, and can be annoying and difficult to counter with holding it, causing hand fatigue. The micro- motor hand piece has the motor in the handle. You're right, it's easier, though a bit heavier. I find I have less hand and arm and shoulder fatigue using a micro- motor. The only draw back with a micro motor is that they do not have the available torque needed for somw heavier jobs. The micro- motor will just stop working if the users torque demands exceed the tools specs, a safety cut off to protect the motor. No overheating allowed! And what a great mani!

This is very interesting, I'm trying to decide between flexshaft and micromotor, and this is convincing me. On the downside of needing higher torque, when would you use a higher torque in jewellery making please?

Hi Rochelle, if you do have a flex shaft that is working properly I would just use that. There is a small difference but a foredom is a very nice tool. But if you need to replace it because it isn't working anymore I can surely advise this one!

Thank you! I'm convinced also because even though I have the spring connector on my flex shaft handpiece, it has a tendency to rip from my hand at times. My hand grip isn't very strong due to RA in my joints so hopefully this will make all the difference I'm ordering one tomorrow!
@Estona.Jewelry.Tutorials

I hope that this will make a difference to you. It is a bit heavier (not much) but really much more stable. And no jumping or ripping, I am sure of that. So I hope this can help you out. @@Estona.Jewelry.Tutorials yes, I ordered yesterday and enjoyed a 5% discount. 🥰 The hammer handpiece was quite high so I'll just continue to use the one I have on my flex shaft. I don't use it enough to justify the expense. Lol... too bad there's not an adapter for that. 🤣🤣 Thank you so much for sharing this product! I had considered other micromotors but the expense was out of my reach. I'm so glad to have found one at such a reasonable price and a discount to boot. I'm really looking forward to using it. 😁 Thanks so much!!!

I have a Saeshin Strong 207S micromotor and I love it. It has a very similar hand piece as the Gesswein. It's light and easy to use, but I can't compare it to a flexshaft as I have never used one. I would love to get a hammer hand piece but that will have to wait as it will cost me more than the micromotor! 😱 But all is not lost as I was advised by a teacher to get a dremel engraver, much cheaper, which has a hammer action. Haven't used it yet but will soon. Loved the video today and look forward to seeing you use the micromotor again. ♥️

Hi Dawn, I haven't had a hammer handpiece like this before. I was using the techdent as you can see in the video, and that was a lot cheaper. Now I can see why, ;-). Looking forward to start using the foredom one. What a gift! I am curious to hear how the Dremel engraver will work out for you. Maybe that is something that can help other people out. Personally, even though I think Dremel has great tools, I find them a bit uncomfortable to hold for this type of work.

@@Estona.Jewelry.Tutorials I'll be using the dremel for the first time tomorrow to set 3 different sized stones so I'll let you know. If I'm not happy with it I guess I'll have to save up for the one that goes with my micromotor. Looking forward to seeing the Gesswein one in action 👍

Hi, great tutorials!!!! Just a quick question please......I'm looking at getting a hammer handpiece but I'm a bit confused with the micromotor hammer that doesn't start until you put pressure on. I've seen in your previous video's you using the flex shaft hammer where you start the action before you connect with the material, that does seem a lot safer and easier as you can gradually apply until you get the desired effect, where as the micro motor when you have to put pressure on before the action starts. Any advice greatly received. Keep going with the great tutorials!!!
@Estona.Jewelry.Tutorials
@Estona.Jewelry.Tutorials 2 года назад
The one I used with my flex shaft is a techdent hammer handpiece. With the micromotor came the foredom hammer handpiece. I have to say that I am really happy with the foredom handpiece. It is much heavier and feels more stable. Being able to position your handpiece carefully and adding just a bit of pressure to get it to work is much more precise. At least I think so.
