A former neighbor of mine bought a DPMS LR-308 at an estate sale and asked me to come shooting with him. That thing kicked like a mule and wasn't reliable at all. I felt bad for him, because he was so excited for his new purchase and all I could really do was recommend an A5 buffer tube and an AR15-length H3 buffer. That combo made his gun cycle correctly and it cut the recoil dramatically. I know that's not really how the A5 is normally used, but I was really impressed with how adding a heavier buffer smoothed out recoil for his rifle.

because someone wanted to run a TDP carbine buffer in a large frame AR, we have the A5 length receiver extension. someone looked at that and said, why not add some more mass and spring to a small frame AR, and we got the A5 system. 5.3 oz just happens to be the TDP buffer weight for a rifle buffer.

Love the system. Big fan of both BCM and SOLGW. As you mentioned Mike's video on the A5 system he says the reason why you would want to have the weights in the buffer shake/rattle is so that when the bolt closes the fwd mass of the weights slaps the "bouncing bolt" back into battery. However this is one difference I've noticed about the BCM buffers...they don't rattle. Idk what or which is better but that's a difference I have seen.

I haven't seen it for a while for some reason but 10 years ago when I started using the a5 system there was a fantastic super slow speed video that showed a carbine and an a5 rifle simultaneously and you could totally see the difference in bounce. The carbine was crazy sloppy compared to the a5 which just went into battery and stopped. A carbine buffer system does fine and has worked well for many many years but it's kinda like the difference between an a2 forearm vs a free float rail; it just helps the rifle act more natural and makes it objectively more solid, reliable, repeatable, and consistent

And both the Vltor and the Bravo use a standard rifle-length recoil spring with their buffers. I switched my buffer tubes out for A5's years ago, what I noticed was the carbine uppers cycled more reliably when dirty and I didn't break any more bolt lugs since it reduced the carrier speed over the standard carbine setup with a 3 oz buffer.

That is what my friends use is an H2(4.6 ounce) buffer in their carbine length 556 and 7.62 AR platforms. The Bravo MK2 buffer system uses a slightly longer buffer tube and an A2 M-16 spring which is longer and tighter to compress than the standard carbine spring , The T2 buffer weight is 5.6 ounces and the T2 buffer weight length is in-between a standard carbine and a rifle length buffer. The idea of the Bravo system is to reduce recoil due to the slight BCG lag between going into battery and the next round firing. If I get the T2 system and see it under gassed I will replace a steel weight with a aluminum buffer weight. I really don't want to be over gassed as it breaks extractors in AR platforms for 7.62 x 39 using steel cased ammo. @@EC-mc7vg

Buffer weight, higher number = heavier buffer.

Softer shooter. Supposedly, more reliable lock up. And since it's a slightly longer buffer tube, a seven position slot. At least VLTOR buffer tube has seven stock positions. * corrected - six position to seven.
@InvidiousIgnoramus
@InvidiousIgnoramus Год назад
@@nushinebob because of the increased length, there are A5 buffer tubes that are able to get as many as 9 positions. I'm thinking about picking one of those up and putting a stock stop in so I can quickly pull it back to my preferred LoP.
