People have been expressing appreciation of the detail in these episodes, well detail is what you're gonna get in this one!! haha!! You get 3 HOURS of digging through the pro tools session, mix settings and pictures/videos of setups and performances from the actual tracking of the song.

I love how long these videos are. Everyone else is so worried about catering to people's declining attention spans but honestly, your attention to detail and the thoughtfulness with which you approach each project could not portrayed in 12 minutes. I laughed happily when I woke this morning and saw this was 3 hours long...love it. Everyone is looking for settings, etc. but the depth of your approach is what sets you apart I believe. These videos have made me SLOW DOWN and think about what I'm doing, why I'm doing it and how to demand better quality of the sounds and performances I'm getting, so thank you.,

thank you so much for these, eric. i've always been a huge fan of your work since the t ride days. i was a musician and producer for 25 years until i suddenly got very sick in 2011. i pretty much left the business and gave up on music to focus on my health issues. for the past 8 years i've barely listened to any music and have not recorded or written anything. in the past few months i've been finally having some relief from my issues and have begun to listen to music again. i came across the slash record you did and this death from above record and was blown away again by your productions. it has inspired me to start working on music again. finding these behind the scenes videos has been even more inspirational. thank you so much for sharing your art with all of us. cheers !!!

Eric, I am happy I found your channel. This video was very generous of you. Sounds great! I recently produced, engineered and played all the instruments on my new record. I had the same ringing problem with an SDC on acoustic guitar and the eq dip I did looked identical to yours to get rid of it, at around 7k. Now I don't feel like a screwed it up, seeing that you did the same thing. Your enthusiasm is infectious. Really awesome job! Thanks for sharing. I am looking forward to watching more of your videos.

Great video and appreciated the great questions from Sebastien. Great discussion on phase. And then during the organ part... EV intentionally experiments with putting it OUT of phase in an intentional/creative way, to see what random comb-filtering he could get for something he intentionally wants further back in the mix... wow, hadn't really thought of that. Really ties it together at the end, compared to the QotSA song, which is such a heavily distorted/saturated mix, yet this song ends up 10x so. The Ozzy song sounds downright shiny...! Reality check on how extreme the mix treatments got on this, absolutely awesome. I will never forget those vocal settings pictures... 1176 on input 10, output 10, into Gates Sta-Level doing same... amazing. And the note about having so few instruments and compositional elements allowed so much experimentation with pushing the limit on treatment. A+ video. Do another song, haha.

This the future of recording and mixing in the studio! It’s not the extreme difference I often hear painted between amateur bedroom producers and large studios, as if there are no studios that are somewhere between in terms of size and capability. This is a guy named Eric Valentine. He’s 49 and he’s retired from the daily grind of commuting into a the big studio he used to work for. He now works from his home studio with limited gear but his work sounds just as good if not better than CLA’s (and CLA’s “large studio”). Watch his videos on his channel and see how he combines digital with analog in creative ways and pushes the envelope on what can be achieved in limited space. He has limited space so he had throw out a lot of the gear he used to have and focus on just his favorites. He has a small drum room (with a high ceiling) that he can use to record drums to his tape machine, that sound just as good (if not better) than anything a big studio can do, and he can do this because he’s a genius with years of experience. He doesn't need to drive to Sunset Sound or Ocean Way or anywhere special to do what he does.
@johnthecreative
@johnthecreative 3 года назад
Seeing how many tracks you used on the bass on this song inspired me to try something similar. It finally took about 5 tracks to get the sound I was looking for and it's funny how when you listen to them in solo you can hardly hear anything but added up they sound powerful. I hate adding more and more tracks to a project but sometimes it's the only thing that works.

Outstanding video. If you guys do a second video it would be great if you could go through “Caught Up” or “Statues”. A couple of questions Eric: - How were the Beatport stems of this album prepared and was this done without the master bus compression used on the main mix? - On “Caught Up” there is a hyper real stereo ambience to the drums that almost sounds like it’s also coming out of speakers in the iso booth. Was this achieved by really pushing the room mics that had zero cymbal bleed?
