Moving from a comfortable position to leading AMD at a time when the company was on the verge of bankruptcy would not be everyone’s first choice - at least not for someone with Lisa’s experience and status - yet she knew that this was a unique opportunity to really make a difference and to elevate her status to a global leader (an accolade she has actually received since). If there’s one thing Lisa exemplifies is that you should always take on the toughest challenges you can find, that’s how you make your own luck in life. Happy 50th Anniversary to AMD :)

@@vyor8837 Why?
@vyor8837
@vyor8837 5 лет назад
@@LuisC7 Everything beyond the history he laid out here is 100% wrong. Like take his CPU frequency thing. If you had a target TDP, let's say 250w, and you couldn't add more cores to hit that TDP but you _could_ add clockspeed, wouldn't you add as much clockspeed as you can? It's 1/3 of performance after all. On GPUs, all graphics workloads are compute in some way. Shaders, geometry, post process. All of it is compute. The better your compute performance, the better your gaming performance. Vega has major downsides for both gaming and compute, the cache being the biggest bottleneck at lower CU counts(up to 56 or so) and geometry at higher counts(64 and up). Both need to be fixed for better compute and gaming performance, so a datacenter focused architecture would help with gaming.

arcturus isnt the name of the next gpu arch. its just the name for the xbox soc thats coming up. people calling it arcturus was just a misunderstanding apparently. the only thing close to a name ive seen is supersimd
@Coreteks

You are correct but I was referring to it as the uarch that comes after Navi, and people are more familiar with arcturus as being that. That said, I will make it clearer in future videos if it comes up again, thanks for pointing it out.

Navi is GCN but its posible a Chiplet based setup, since Crossfire is not shader to shader communication and after navi we hope to get a none GCN architecture. And compared to how long the base structure of GCN exitst and runs Competitive with sometimes complete redesigns from nvida, Navi on GCN is no problem for me.

Probably common sense mostly. If you understand corperations and have any reasonable understanding of history it really is not to complicated. It all works the same and always has, just the products are different for every industry. Keeping up with industry developments and researching relevent information is the hard work and requires a passion for the industry and it's products.. And then communicating it as well as he does is a completely different talent.

PC gamers can cry all they want but AMD almost went bankrupt because they were focusing on them too much and yes I know its not that simple bur in the gpu sector it is. PC gamers choose nVidia so AMD had to choose data center 😊
