Dayton, this was pretty interesting. As a man of physics, I've always known that the "parabola" idea was just an approximation, but, had no idea the reasoning behind it. This was very informative, and, I like the new video style. Also, don't back down - I have between 3-5 flat earthers that are subbed to my channel just to dislike every single video. They dont want discussion or education, they just want to be trolls. Just let their dislikes be drowned out by the thousands of likes that will follow. Cheers!

You forget air friction! : ) When the motion is small compared to earth curvature it gives an flattened parabola with the following equations of motion: x(t) = v0_x/b * (1 - exp(-b*t)) y(t) = 1/b * (g/b + v0_y) * (1 - exp(-b*t)) - g/b*t Where we accounted of a friction of the form F= -b*v When b → 0 it recovers the form of a parabola. When accounting with earth curvature and neglecting friction like it's expained in the video it can also be a parabola, if the initial speed is exactly v0 = 11,19 km/s

FWIW: Barrier style pop shields are really for studio vocal performance. You'll probably find a foam shield far more convenient for spoken word. You can aim the mic up to the mouth too. Is that a measurement, omni pattern mic? I cant see what it is.
@BlueprintScience
@BlueprintScience 3 года назад
It’s a RODE shotgun mic. My foam shield blew away in the wind last year and the pop filter was cheaper than getting a replacement if you can believe that.
@Dr-Curious
@Dr-Curious 3 года назад
@@BlueprintScience Ah. Ok. Shotguns are very directional, and designed for some distance... the foams are indeed relatively expensive for certain mics. Again FWIW: You can get some excellent little mics nowadays for very little. The noise factor should be lower than a sg mic too. Audio technica, sE pencils are great and used, pretty inexpensive. Hypercarioid is a good pattern for voice narration etc. I don't trust Beringer as I've had more failures than any other brand.

Great and simple way to explain it, i did a video about that in spanish, i was playing basketball then i thought what would happen if i throw the ball and in mid air the earth compreses into a single point and the basketball would orbit that point so is not a parabola like you said is an ellipse!, of course we are asumimg all the mass of the earth compress into a point, anyway great video

If one throws a corn perfectly strate (straight) up one needn't worry about the change in direction of gravity vector, but would have to account for the acceleration varying as the corn goes up then down. Throne (thrown) at an angle, corn would follow an ellipse or parabola according to the density of gravitating body, thus: A small, very massive earth would bring about a more elliptic path, while a very large but light object would have relatively less curvature, and corn would experience less gravitational variance. So, as density approaches zero, corn path approaches that of a perfect parabola. But then, the earth would be flat, and corn would fly off into space. So, since it virtually always comes back down, Earth must not be flat.

Would that work with a coconut too?
@luigivercotti6410
@luigivercotti6410 3 года назад
Research is ongoing. (Actually, if the coconut has light enough skin and heavy enough juice, this should visibly impact its trajectory, and spin, due to inertia. You can observe this by throwing a filled plastic water bottle and seeing how it kinda wobbles as it moves due to the water inside intermittently subtracting and adding momentum)

@AtlasReburdened
@AtlasReburdened 3 года назад
Electric universe is a farce. If electric fields were responsible for the psuedo-force we call gravity then elevating an object would put a massive electric potential on it, and every time you stood up you'd get a life ending shock. Not only that, but there's no way every celestial body could have an opposing charge to every other celestial body. It's tautologically impossible. Some of them would end up with like charges and would repel instead of attracting each other, would would make the solar system completely unstable.

Flat earthers are just even better approximators. Instead of Ellipse -> Parabola, they make the jump from Ellipse -> Flat Line. Give them credit for their incredibly high IQ!

Physics (and other sciences I expect) routinely simply the situation to limit the complexity of the mathematics required. Anyone who has taken a college physics class (an admittedly small number) knows the examples always talk about neglecting air resistance for falling objects, ignoring the curvature of the earth when discussing short range projectile motion, mass-less ropes and pullies, frictionless surfaces, etc. Pseudo-science advocates such as flat-earthers, of course, sometimes try to exploit that by proving the assumption false and claiming victory. There are a wide range of things observed on the surface of the earth which the flat-earthers cannot explain, including the Corbeaus Effect which explains ocean and atmospheric currents, artillery trajectories, airplane flight plans, etc. Then there are the tides which happen two times each day. Sunrise and sunset, the visibility of the North Star or the Southern Cross, map accuracy. Only by being ignorant of all these things or by providing a single model of a flat earth that can account for them all allows a person to claim to be both a flat-earther and a rational human being.

tell the truth, how many takes did it take before you got hit on the head with the apple?? coz it look like it hit that tree a few times, it was mashed. oh and thank you for pointing out this obvious one. i was told in school that when you through a stone ETC, it travels in an perfect ellipse.. or or parabolic. even got detention for pointing thats wrong. (the teacher through a piece of chalk which hit me in the face and said "tell how that traveled King ya smart aras little shight" & gave me detention.. & YES!! in Ireland back when i was in school a teacher(not all of them, but just a few, to be fare & honest) would kick the crap out of ya for interrupting a class.

Hi you are actually inaccurate because technically the trajectory of a body under the influence of a single gravitational field that can be modeled as a point mass assuming idealized conditions is a geodesic not a parabola nor an ellipse. However the math for geodesics are complicated therefore parabolas are used for shorter distances and ellipse for longer distances such as planetary orbits because as you astutely pointed out the eccentricity can be approximated to a parabola or ellipse for most circumstances because both are conic sections.
