There is a lot of fear and misinformation surrounding neck training, and I can understand why people would feel reluctant to train it.
Musculoskeletal injuries are more common in combat sports, and the neck is one of the many sites of the body that is exposed to repeated forces at different velocities in striking and grappling scenarios.
The cervical spine moves in flexion, extension, lateral flexion and rotation and is surrounded by tissue that needs to be trained.
