Quick explanation for why the boxcars brakes are so high is so that brakemen can run along the top to engage the brakes. About as safe as you would think.

I just realized that the pump car (or whatever they are called) is basically what an f150 is today on the railroads.

The reason the brake is high on the box car is because back in the day when there was no airbrakes for the entire train there would be a brakeman in the caboose and whenever they needed to brake to go around sharp corners and stuff the brakeman would come out of the caboose and climb up on the car that is in front of the caboose and he would run across the top of the train manually throwing the handbrakes while the train would be going down the track.

The train has a constant kinetic energy but you are removing mass which means the train accelerates

I don’t know who to tell this to but I think they should add a storage shed building to the game so you can get lots of materials at once and they won’t be consumed by an industry. At least I think it is a good idea. Right? So you can make really cool depots

I did a 96 tools delivery. Just those 3 cars cute my frame rate in half for some reason. Glad it was only a 1 mile journey for the delivery.

Boxcars have always held 32 tool crates. There was an error on one of the spreadsheets that listed it as 24 with an incorrect weight. Get Mickely's spreadsheet.

In the yard you just keep ringing the Bell btw. Also you should consider making a Freight Depot bypass line that runs through the valley to the West of that hill next to the Depot.

I don't know if the phisics of the game is this good, but can it be just momentum? Q=m1*V1, when you remove some weight to it, the momentum will reamin the same so lowering the weight means increasing the speed Q=m2*V2->m2*V2=m1*V1 so V2=V1*m1/m2

Would it be possible to deliver the tools and pipes with a gravity railway? You'd need to build the groundwork high enough that the cranes just about load the cars, and then have a constant grade (maybe a bit steeper at the start to overcome friction and get them going.

You wouldn’t blow the whistle in the shunting yard unless there is a grade crossing in that case you would do two long whistles, one short whistle, and one long whistle

The train is picking up speed because you're making it lighter when you're unloading it.

steep is used for hight like its a "steep" hill when in turns its sharp. wow thats a sharp turn.

whistle signal when passing by crew on the ground is 2 short. speed limit = slow. 1st Rule of Railroading = re-line the switches back to main route once your train is clear. BOING!!!! = scratch one Eureka and your brand new Boxcar!

i think this game should add bot employees that you pay weekly but you can send one to man a switch and as you approach that switch you can signal the bot to flip the switch

for why they accelerate i think its cuz momentum is mass x velocity so if mass reduces but momentum stays the same the velocity would increase

Climax was the first engine I bought but because my ruling grade is just 1.5% between freight depot, sawmill and logging camp it kinda useless for just 16 cars. Currently building a line down to the smelter. Even found a 1.5% route which would have been very beautiful run (and I will build it). But I decided for a 4% main line just to have a, reason to use more powerful engines. Even half build a 1.5% line to the iron mine which I will tear down again and replace it with a 7% run. It would've only be useful with 100 car long trains or such. And already my standard 16 car trains are annoying. Takes so long to load check breaks and just walk down the train if you back into a siding.

I think Dapper has a better safety record. Lol

In real life when starting to move a locomotive you turn on cylinder cocks and then move the throttle ring the bell and blow the whistle twice.

A full boiler is actually bad. If you fill the boiler completely with water then you can’t create steam

In real life when you will go through a yard you wouldn't blow the whistle you would normally ring the bell constantly going through the yard

why is there all this panic about switches causing a derail when you are approaching from an angle that shouldn't possibly cause a derail? the switch you had to make a mad dash to (17:30) didn't even seem dangerous. unless it's a quirk of the game in real life it wouldn't cause any problems, trains cross points like that all the time with no issues IRL. I'm just curious as to why.
