PS2 Launch Game Memories 

god it seems just like yesterday when the ps2 was the next gen

Getting my PS2 is something I will never forget. I didn't get it on launch, and when I did get it, it was a used console, but I remember the day like it was yesterday. I went to a used game shop with my parents to spend my allowance on some PS1 games, and after looking around a bit, they discouraged me from buying those and I was totally confused, they told me there in the store that they had a PS2 for me in the trunk that was supposed to be for Christmas (this was close to the holiday) and they hated to see me spend my allowance on older games when I could buy a game for the PS2. Needless to say that was an awesome day.

PS2 is my All-time Favorite console. Got it in 2001 and I play it to this day. The PS2's library diversity is just unmatched. Also, the 6th generation was the last of the golden gaming era IMO. I hate all these game installations, patches BS that you have to do these days. Not to mention no manuals, reading manuals were 25% of the joy after getting a new game for me.

WHAT? Where the hell is SSX? That was probably the best looking launch title for the PS2. And it still kicks ass today!

I got my PS2 in 2001 and GTA3 was my first PS2 game :)

I loved Dark Legacy and I'm so happy you saved the best for last, me and my friends always had a blast with that game and spent countless hours on it!

I got my PS2 in 2003 when I was 7. Still have mine and it's still doing good. I still play it till this day.

I watch many different gaming channels, but I always find myself coming back to yours, Pete. I think it has to do with the relatable videos you have. Hearing detailed commentary about great consoles such as the PS2 and the N64, as well as their games, can really be nostalgic. A good nostalgia, of course.

Thanks for all the great new videos you're putting out Pete. It really brightens up my day to come home after school to see one of your videos in my subscriptions :D

i am 16, and my original ps2 still works :)

I had one of those old ones a while ago but my sister tripped on the controller wire and it fell off of the shelf it was on and broke. I started crying because it was the best and probably the only system I had but my mom said she would get me the new slim one that came out and I was happy. She is nice. :)

Its funny to think that Pete was like....12 when the PS2 came out. You had alk those games at launch? You really lucked into some well off and generous parents, bro.

When ps2 came i bought it after xmas and got tekken tag tournament (great fighting game), ssx (great sports game), and that was it. As the years passed, i used my ps2 as both a dvd player (worked better than the oritron budget dvd player i got for xmas that year), cd, and ps2 and ps1 machine. The original model's laser couldn't read dual layer discs anymore so i got the thin model while dad tried to repair it; i got an xbox in 2003 but never played it online because i had to pay for xbox live. Dad still uses the ps2 a lot and it works great, although when it reads dvds the movie skips a lot. Also one of the controllers broke (dual shock 2). Out of all the ps machines that sony churned out, this one remains the best selling Sony console and video game console of all time,even though in January Sony ended production worldwide. Fifa 14 was the last PS2 game.

My parents bought my Ps2 a couple weeks after it came out and i was only a few months old

A good friend of mine bought a PS to have lunch, and I bought mine about seven months later. I still have it to this day. It has trouble reading disks when it heats up a little, but other than that it works like a charm. my two favorite games from lunch or SSX and Madden 2001. The most memorable thing about the latter where the blank stares that the players had, LOL. I mean, I don't even think that they blinked!

Awesome memories! I too got put on to Theme Park from the Sega Channel. I was never any good, but it was fun enough that I did pick up the psone version too. Maybe I need to break that out again!

I have some very fond memories with my PS2. Unfortunately my original fat one broke. I kept it for years displayed on my shelf because I didn't have the heart to get rid of it, but I've been broke lately so I sold it through Craigslist. I still remember my mom buying it for me in 2001. I bought Surfing H3O with my own money. Not too long after, I bought Crazy Taxi at a Circuit City and then Fur Fighters at Blockbuster. Now I have well over 300+ PS2 games and it's by far my favorite system

The PS2 was, is, and probably forever will be my personal favorite console of all time. What a great video, Pete! I remember playing Dragon Ball Z Budakai, Oni, and Armored Core 3 when i first got my PS2.

Oh man, I'm 13 and I have had some fond memories of the PS2... Need for Speed Hot Pursuit I think it was, Jak and Dexter, and so much more. I never grew up as a rich kid, so we had this, and to tell you the truth, it's one of my favorite consoles other than the gamecube.

Gaunlet Legends for the ps1 was one of my most played co-op games back in the day. Its cool that you got to play the ps2 version.

Summoner! I remember me and my friend playing this together. Later I got the PC version too. Never finished it to the end, though. Major nostalgia. Escape from Monkey Island, Hitman (forgot the exact name), GTA games, Tekken TT, Tekken 4, FF10 and many more.

Old memories! Still remember Timesplitters, it was so awesome and still is.

PS2 was practically my first console, I got it for christmas in 2004 and was hooked ever since. My PS2 games take up over 3/4ths of my collection.

Tekken Tag Tournament was great. Also by the way i'm 13 and I used to play the PS2 as a kid.

i remember pre ordering it, picking it up on launch day and having to wait to finish work, got home, set it up and it had a faulty disc drive gutted lol got a replacement and was a great system

Starfighter was my first PS2 game as well when I bought it at launch! So beautiful and fun to play. I had no idea how to open the case since I hadn't seen DVDs before so I really damaged the label.

I remember when my friend first got his ps2 with dynasty warriors 2 with it. I thought it was so amazing, I went out and bought a ps2. I still have both game and ps2 to this day!

I got my first PS2 system on 2017. It was a gifts from a friend, and he gave it yo me because somebody broke my XB360 and he had a PS2 slim just laying around with no real use, so he have it tl me and one of the first games I played on it was NFS:MW, Kingdom Hearts, MGS 2 and 3, and KH and MGS have become into some of my favorite franchises ever.

I have a limited edition PS2 Blue Gloss console :) Less than fifty were sold

Final Fantasy X. I remember looking at it through a magazine and I really wanted the game. At the time I had a Gamecube (I'm a huge Nintendo fan) but I was also super big on Final Fantasy. My friend brought his Playstation 2 over with FFX and he let me play the first 10 minutes of the game. It blew my mind and I just had to have it. A few weeks later my dad told me that he won a Playstation 2 from a McDonald's contest. I'm never sure if that's true but, hey, I got a Playstation 2 with FFX :D

i remember the sony website had a count down of the hours left til the PS2 launch. I would sit at the computer every day after school and watch it even though there was like a month left on the counter. lol

I remembered this thing. Honestly, I didn't even remember PS2 having a slim model til I researched it. I do however remembering seeing one probably in a store or at a friend's house when I was young. I don't remember what games I played on the system though. xD

Midnight Club and Smugglers Run.

Got my PS2 in 2003, and loved it from that point on. My first games were Turok: Evolution, Ace Combat 4, SOCOM 1, and Gran Turismo 3, but the actual reason why I bought it was to play Silent Hill 3 in time for its release, and oh boy was it worth it.

My favorite PlayStation 2 games are Grand Theft Auto 3, Burnout, Midnight Club, The Sims, Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath Of Cortex, Gran Turismo 3: A-spec, and State of Emergency. Plus all the awesome DVDs I can watch on it.

Gauntlet is one of my favorites ever. Some of my favorite multiplayer memories come from that game.

Got the same PS2 with the online, and everything. It's still working here too. Love it.

I don't know if you were playing online games back then Pete, but my first headset game was Rogue Spear for the PC. Maybe this was 1995, I don't even remember anything other than that it was a blast, and still love the Rainbow Six and Socom games.

Damn.. this video brought tears to my eyes. I used to play my PS2 every single day until my eyes were bloodshot and my parents would yell at me constantly to stop playing or I'd get bad eyesight. Then all the memories of playing with family and still remember playing those old ATV games and racing with my dad or some other family member. Damn..those were the days.. I miss when people made consoles like this..

I got mine in 2004 or 2005 I think, I was 11 or 12, but I used to play a lot at a friends place back in the day. It is my favorite console of all time (excluding PC) along with PS1 and SNES

The only memory I actually had of the PS2 is that my nephew used to own one and we played it quit a bit together. I only recently picked up a PS2 of my own because at the time we could only afford one console. My wife and I got the GameCube because it was the cheapest and had some great games for it. It's funny because my nephew had the PS2, we had the GameCube, and my brother had the Xbox Classic. So even though we all could only afford one console we could play at each other's house and enjoy all of them at different times lol.

I can only begin to imagine how many total hours of gaming my PS2 has been through and I still play it regularly to this day.

I still have BF1&2 on the to be played pile. Looks awesome!

And of course for the Cathode Raytube Amusement Device and Tennis for Two. That was awesome when those came out!! I waited in line for hours to get them.

i remember the first games i got for ps2 were the bouncer,dynasty warriors 2, red faction i remember getting dark cloud aswell but couldnt get into it because i was to much in love with the final fantasys at the time. I hope u make a video showing u playing the launch game and what ur impressions of them are pete.

#1 launch game I remember was Tekken Tag Tournament. Everyone I knew back then had it on Day 1.

I remember being a young teenager and watching the launch event in Japan on TV. I was so impressed.. Sadly it took me a few years after that before I got my PS2, but I still own it to this day.

My memories of PS2 launch games were Ridge Racer 5, SSX and Dynasty Warriors 2. I also rented a lot of games back then as well... such as Time Spitters, Eternal Ring and Shadow of Destiny.

Man i haven't picked up any console at launch, always at least a year later. There's a lot of games to choose after a while but it must be fun trying out the first games.

Man hunting for a PS2 on launch and finally seeing those blue boxes was such a rush
