Actually for Atmos you don't need to toggle bitstream in the regular audio settings. The bluray player has its own audio settings that you can set to bitstream. Your game audio will stay in Linear PCM.
You dont have to change it every time. I leave my game audio at Linear PCM and changed the blu ray setting with a movie in and it works fine. It saves those settings individually
I don’t have an LG C1 so I can’t unfortunately answer this. However, I just sold my main display and will be buying an LG C1 soon, so I’ll answer back when I get that set up (and probably make a video on it as well).
Looks like it really depends on discs and Home theater also, for example: Matrix Titans of Cult Blu Ray Ultra HD disc: Dolby Digital on cover -> works with dolby/dts on sound menu ->linear PCM/bitrate Wolf of Wall Street Limited Ed. Ultra HD disc: Dolby Digital / DTS on cover -> doesn't work in any way, nor with dolby/dts selected or PCM or Bitrate. So my tip to get the best Audio possible is to try different combination as possibile with every movie you have, especially if you have a old home thatre like me connected with Audio Port. Thanks for the info videos, quick question when you play your ps5 do you notice the audio is bass death? On every game there is nothing on the subwoofer but when playing Xbox the sound is great as usual (I have dual PB-3000 svs) so is easy to notice when the subs are quiet I have tried pcm dolby and dts settings but nothing I get sound on my 7 channels but no bass
I just want to be absolutely sure, so for video games the best audio setting is LPCM? Is that correct? And what about when using a headset while gaming? Is LPCM still the best option?
New subscriber to your channel. Not many people doing the media side of the ps5 so good job. Im thinking of buying a sound bar a Sonos beam to go with my Sonos surrounds for 5.1 or a Sony Atmos bar ht-g700 mainly for Ps5 gaming and 4k Blu-ray movies , any advice from you. Thanks 👍
I'm confused about something. So if you're using a USB headset, you want to stick with Linear PCM, correct? Also what if I'm using aux speakers connected straight to my TV. Do I stick with "TV" as HDMI Device Type? Or can I use "AV Amplifier"?
By adjusting the sound to watch a movie, will I get the surround sound? Everything I watch is always in multichannel, and all my sound comes from the two front speakers. I have a 7.2 Surround system
I just got ps5. is it better to hook up ps5 directly to tv port sony briva 80k (supports 120/60 4k) or can i hook it up directly to my Denon x1700h game port?
I was wondering what you think from PS5 to Xbox series? X which one is better with a receiver set up? I have a 5.1.4 setup. Just for mainly playing games. I have a external Blu-ray player. But I really like to be enveloped.
Not Automatic for RGB. You need to set it to Limited and Low black level (If you don't have Auto black level. If you Auto black level then you can set both to Automatic. But this is if your using your TV for both movies and gaming. If you are using specifically for gaming Limited on PS5 Low on TV
So I try to watch a UHD movie on my PS5 but it just says Dolby Surround Sound on my soundbar and not Atmos. However, when I play the exact same movie in the Vudu app on the PS5, that plays it in Atmos. Any clue what's going on there?
HI Great video , i Just got my PS5 and Series X , and my headphones are the astro a40 tr mixamp on my pc , there all in the same room , is there anyway to join one base unit between one mixamp thanks for your video
Pcm gives you only stereo sound, but if you set DD or DTS then you will have 5.1 pass through your TV. Check Google for what sound your TV can pass through.
I might have missed it, but I have my ps5 connected to the sony x900h which has 2 2.1 connections and one being eArc. I have a q850t soundbar connected to the eArc HDMI. What setting would I use inside the ps5 that will give me the full 5.1.2 surround that the soundbar has (obviously talking best surround spund since ps5 doesn't support atmos natively)?
Hi I have a question I have a Dolby Atmos sound bar and a Sony x90j tv when I play a blu ray my soundbar says isn’t putting out Dolby atmos but my ps5 saying Dolby audio trueHD and I do not no why could u help
Good video! I have a 5.2.4 setup but I get better sound with Bitstream dolby with games over Linear PCM. Anything I am doing wrong or should check for ?????
When you say better, what exactly do you mean? A common thing that happens is that bitstream may be a bit louder than LPCM, and we tend to perceive louder as better. If that’s the case, I’d turn the volume up on the receiver to match LPCM to that of bitstream. It’s also possible that your receiver is applying some type of signal processing to the bitstream signal that it isn’t to the LPCM one, which could be causing the “better” effect as well.
Thanks for this! I was wondering why my receiver was only processing 2ch when I had Linear PCM selected. I guess it's just the old hardware. I've got a new receiver on the way and will try PCM again, but for now, forcing Dolby is working to force surround in 5.1 on my older receiver.
My Marantz amplifier does not support PS5. I get the Sound but projector Displays Black screen, so I directly connected my PS5 to the Epson Projector and it sucks when you have all this Speakers and Home theatre but can’t enjoy playing to the fullest
You say use AV received even if you had a sound bar. Why not use the sound bar setting? I have a sound bar with wireless surrounds, what setting should I choose? Thank you!
Very informative. Question ❓. What if I have my sound thru powered speakers? Is it the same settings as for soundbar or is there something different that I have to do?
Basic Question - so first we connect the TV to a receiver (with 5.1 set up via ARC) and then we connect PS5 to the TV via another HDMI cable - but select the HDMI device type as AV amplifier correct??
Hey! Nice video! One question, should I connect my ps5 to the AV receiver and back to the TV? or to the TV and then to the Receiver. Thanks for the support and keep up the good work!
This can be done multiple ways...how old is the receiver ? How old is the tv? Does the receiver and tv have a ARC HDMI port? If the receiver was made in the last couple of years it may be worth it to use the processing power in the receiver and utilize the ARC HDMI port on the tv to return audio
@@BigNickTx Hey! Thanks for the support. I've ended connecting it directly to the TV and back to the receiver since the latter does not support HDR. Just had to mess around a little bit with bitstream and PCM to have the receiver decoding the audio and not the tv.
very informative video, but for hdr, if I play a blueray with dolby vision or hdr10+, in order to take advantage of them, relying on a synthamplifier or a compatible tv are my only option, am I right? because the ps5 alone can't handle these type of hdr codecs, aside the standard static hdr10, thanks in advance
Thanks for the comment. Unfortunately, the PS5 will not pass HDR10+ or Dolby Vision at all, meaning even if you’re AV receiver or TV support it still won’t display either of those formats and default to the standard HDR10. For that you’ll need a UHD player that supports those formats.
It definitely is. It really is unfortunate that a $500 console released in 2020 doesn’t have support for those formats, which would make it a viable media device well into the future. As it stands, you’ll need to buy a separate UHD player for those formats.
I have a JBL5.1 with a Sony X900h and input lag if the audio output is coming through the speakers, My sound bar is connected through eArc, and ps5 is direct to the tv hdmi, so I can get 4k120fps. What should I do? Thanks
Hi, Got An issue, I don't know how I can connect my PS5 to my Focal speakers which are with XLR plugs... My HDMI 2 goes out from my PS5 and connect straight to my screen which is an EIZO 319GX which doesn't have any sound output as it's a retouch screen that I use for photography and gaming...
So I have Hisense 55H6570g smart 4K tv and I changed my audio settings to pass through and I’m using a Vizio 5.1 surround sound bar and I changed audio on ps5 to Dolby and it’s sounds better than using pcm
Hey! Had a question. I have a Samsung q950 sound bar and it has rear speakers. Would I still select soundbar as the HDMI device type? Someone had told me to set it to av receiver
What is best for my ps5, to use the hdmi arc from TV to av surround system or should I use the optical from TV to surround system... I have ps5, a 4k tv and blueray 5.1 system so ps5 is connected to TV then TV is connected to av system...... it works lovely with using arc hdmi cable but I do have a hi quality optical cable that I could use instead.... So is hdmi arc better quality than optical for sound, not just for ps5 but I watch Netflix and stream 4k movies from TV also...
I think I'm having a similar issue. I want to have 4k graphics for my game and the surround sound but I haven't figured that out yet. I can tell you HDMI will give you better sound than optical. Does your PS5 go thru your 5.1 sound with the optical connection going from tv to receiver?
For games is dolby and dts regular old dolby dts standard for games or does it output dolby true hd or dts hd for game audio? If not then lpcm is best for uncompressed game audio right?
I've got my ps5 connected to tv then hdmi from tv to sound bar which also has rear speakers do I select av amplifier or sound bar in the ps5 audio menu ty
can someone please help me?? i just bought a sony sound bar 2.1 and i have an lg oled tv, so what settings do i set the tv to? i only have bitstream and pcm and on the ps5 settings i have pcm, bitstream (dolby) and bitstream (DTS) the dts version has no sound. i keep reading to put the ps5 settings on linear pcm, but wat do i set the tv to? also when i watch movies on netflix or blueray, do i have to change it to bitstream? please someone help me. i have no idea wat to do. also my sound bar is connected directly to the tv. i was thinking of keeping bitstream on my tv but keeping pcm on ps5 would that be the best option? does the bitstream for movies only effects the blue ray dvd's or just movies in general like netflix amazon and blue ray disks?
I personally set it to 7.1. Your receiver should mix the back 2 channels into your left and right surround speakers while also providing a bit more surround info for the Nueral upmixing to work its magic. I don’t have any hard facts on this and it’s solely based on my own two ears, so try it out and let me know if you hear a difference.
Are your settings set for the ps5 plugged directly to the 5.1 home theater system? I’ve read many articles recommending to put bitstream dts or bitstream Dolby in case the ps5 is connected to the tv, with the tv sending audio to the speakers with HDMI arc . I wish you could help me clarify . Thanks
Good video. Currently waiting for Sony to fix the UAC1 driver, add UAC2, and add support for Bluetooth audio devices perhaps even with LDAC support, as well as allowing Tempest 3D audio to output through not only usb, but HDMI and Bluetooth as well. Boggles my mind that even if they only have headphones somewhat nailed down with 3D audio that you are limited to liscensed headsets or the audio jack on the Dualsense.... and maybe uac1 devices? but those seem to be bugged with a 15dB drop vs other signal outputs.... most would have UAC2 devices though, but those arent even supported what so ever. What if I dont want, and even cant run my headphones off the dualsense and dont want a hecking gaming headset? Fixing support for Bluetooth 5 (with LDAC) and fixing the usb dac support along with allowing all of them + HDMI output to carry the 2 channel 3D audio for headphones would solve most issues headphone people like me got with it. and more options and like a status screen maybe to see what sort of signal/settings and where audio is outputed to would be neat, like they have in the video section. I also think the settings menu is a slight mess and need some work. Video transfer rate sounds like some made up bullshit to me and my understanding is that is really is Chroma subsampling/color compression setting. auto/ -1 / -2 doesnt mean anything to probably anyone. Chroma subsampling, yeah well thats been a thing since forever! yuv 4:4:4 , 4:2:2 and 4:2:0 actually does mean something. while -1 and -2 is what exactly? It pretty damn silly. and they tell you yuv setting in the like overview screen anyway sooo.... Sony... why? why?
My MANUALLY recorded videos won’t upload at 4K, HDR, It uploads maxed at 1080 HDR. I am using an 4K/8K HDMI chord. It used to upload at 4K but then it stopped. Any suggestions on a fix?
Does anyone know why ps5 doesn't like audio extractor?? When I use one(jtech or Orei) I can't get 4k@60 or HDR... My series x with the same extractor works fine..ps5 doesn't..I plug into my monitor, it's fine .. Extractor inline, no Beuno
If I have a sound bar with rear speakers and a sub should I use pcm or bitstream .... It’s basically a 5.1 system plus the up firing speakers for atoms ...
I can’t fix an audio issue with my demon receiver. My ps4 is reasonably loud even with my stereo only at 18 but when I have my ps5 on the audio has to be turned to 38 to be relatively similar
I’m trying to select “bitstream” from BD settings but option is not available. I only can choose “PCM” as bitstream is present but it seems not activated. I use UHD HDMI cable. AV is Anthem MRX 520 that support DTD HD MASTER AUDIO & DOLBY TRUE HD encoding. I really don’t understand…. can you help me?…..thanks…
I have a Bose Lifestyle system. I have a PS5 and I just got a XR77A80J. It keeps telling me my tv does not support HDR and 120hz, it definitely does. What am I doing wrong?
Are you plugging the PS5's HDMI output into the Bose Lifestyle system, then out from the Bose system to the TV? If so, then that's likely the issue as the Bose needs to support HDR and 120Hz as well.
I still am curious because I have my pc monitor connected to my ps5 with speakers, but the speakers are very loud and I can’t figure out how to turn them down. If someone could help me that would be very helpful, thank you! Also great video!
Can anybody recommend a AV-Reciever where i don't get audio lag with this setup: XboxSX-->TV (in my case LG Oled BX)-->AV-Reciever ?? Don't know who is causing the lag but with all bitstreamformats I'm getting audio lag. :( No audiolag if i use extractor but than I'm loosing hdmi 2.1 advantages like 120hz/VRR
Linear pcm is decoded by the ps5. Bitstream is good if you're receiver decodes better than the ps5. I use a dac and headphones so I use Pcm. But one isn't better than the other.
For games, both the Dolby Digital and DTS variants that the PS5 encodes to are compressed lossy audio formats (with max bitrates of 640kbps for Dolby Digital and 1.5Mbps for DTS), so if set to bitstream, the console will be adding compression to an already compressed source (game audio files). With PCM, there is no additional compression. So technically, one is better than the other. The bitstream setting should only be use with games if you have surround sound headphones like Astros or Turtle Beach or if the device or receiver you’re using doesn’t support multichannel PCM, otherwise PCM will ensure you’re getting the best audio you can out fo your games. For movies, Bitstream is the correct setting.
Home cinema. No contest. Unless you are in a situation where you can’t make a lot of noise or only play competitively. Even then, a home cinema will be much more immersive in my opinion. You can’t “feel” really low bass with headphones.
Haha. Yeah, it’s one of my favorite Tim Burton films (and the Danny Elfman score sounds amazing in Atmos). It’s not a huge upgrade over the Blu-ray’s 5.1 track, but it sounds more open.
@@HomeTheaterGamer I'm hopefully working toward the day I can afford to install Atmos and a 4K TV. Then I'll be able to yell "It's Show Time". Hahahaha
@Kevin Gardner you’ll get there, man! And you’ll appreciate it that much more than just buying it outright. Saving up and buying something that is a noticeable upgrade over what you had is a feeling that can’t be explained.
@@HomeTheaterGamer Yes sir. That's a fact. I'm drooling over an Emotiva audio set-up and a new Vizio P series someday. Unless I hit the lottery it's unlikely going to happen. I hope you can keep up your good work on your channel and other endeavors. Thanks
This projector gets the job done pretty well. ru-vid.comUgkxS9P8zTOcmQg-hH0QeUi3dspOLyYgQ6dH Bear in mind it's a mini projector but all things considered the picture quality is pretty good. The attached photo is of the projector projecting onto my white closet doors. I still have not messed with the settings but I can't wait for our first family movie night on a larger scale. If you have issues with volume not working with your firestick, go into volume settings and you will find your solution there.
When you watch a 4k movie press Start/options on the controller, highlight the Bubble/3 dots tab, then select settings, finally select Audio Format and switch on Bitstream and if you receiver/soundbar supports it, it'll play out Atmos or DtsX
I think the adjust position option only has an effect on the LPCM output, so that adjustment would not be required as LPCM doesn’t have support for height channels at all. It has no effect when the PS5 is set to bitstream. I just wish the PS5 supported Dolby Atmos in games. It’s a bummer that it doesn’t.
@@HomeTheaterGamer I’m assuming Sony doesn’t want to pay Dolby for using the technology but it still sucks that’s no configuration at least for it. I can’t choose 5.1 when I still two other speakers as my heights. And 7.1 accounts for them being around you.
7.1 avr for ps5 rocks, blow the "3d" mode for headphones out of the water. Have large towers 7.1 setup myself tighly around the sofa, very good drectionality and cinema power. When you go real surround you cant play without anymore,it comes natural when you get used to it. The 3d headphone mode were letdown after so much hype. Ofc 2.0 stereo wont top real 7.1 channels
@@BaRt175 Nice - can u answer this? Basic Question - so first we connect the TV to a receiver (with 5.1 set up via ARC) and then we connect PS5 to the TV via another HDMI cable - but select the HDMI device type as AV amplifier correct??
Use automatic before turning your ps off and going to another house or hotel cause if they don't have a tv capable of doing 2160p you will just have a black screen and need to go to recovery mode and possibly format the system.
