UPDATE: Since this video was made, Sony has released the official update that allows users to add an SSD expansion drive to their PlayStation 5 consoles. Refer to Sony's advice on which drives are compatible to see what you should buy. The SSD expansion drive can be used exactly like the internal SSD of the PS5. You can play any games, including PS5 games, directly from the expansion drive.
@@ahmedalnaji8888 Unfortunately anything connected to the ps5 via usd cable wont work in terms of ps5 games, you still have to move them to the internal or expanded SSD. Ps4 games should still work off the External SSD tho
@@naruto2382 confused. So you can save a ps5 game on external hard drive yet you can't play them ? Sp you have to load them back into the ps5 internal hard drive sorta like downloading a game from scratch from playstation store ?
@@mlok1376 it copies the game over onto the external drive but, if you want it back you must copy it back over this is similar to downloading but it is remarkably shorter than a full download from the store
Fast, on point, detailed and laconic!!! Thank you for the info. Among 15 videos i saw today to learn what is happening, yours was the only 1 that helped a lot.
@@Online-Tech-Tips Hey what is the biggest hard drive the Xbox Series X and PS5 will take the PS4 would only go up to a 8tb hard drive and I have a 10tb hard drive connected to my Xbox Series X?I have a 8tb connected to my PS5.
You confirm why cyberpunk is better have it on internal ps5 ememory, that's because I transfer to a external hdd and the resolutions were like old gen... Better wait to ps5 version... Great video!!!
I just got a PS5 a couple of weeks ago and was told by my friend to get extra memory for it. My question is: Do you all recommend the internal SSD over the cheaper external hard drives? Like, is there a difference in speed/convenience/performance when trying to choose between the two types? I don’t mind spending more money on a product if it truly makes a difference in performance. And I haven’t had a video game console in years at this point, so I’m kinda new to this new age of console gaming. From the information in this video, it seems to me like I should just get both. Like maybe I should just get at least a 2TB (or more) internal SSD for the PS5 games, and then just get a 1TB external hard drive for the PS4 games, since each type of hard drive has a pretty useful purpose, for me at least because I know for sure that I will be playing PS4 games, but I also know that I will have this console for years until the next gen comes out, so I will need quite a bit of internal space for the PS5 games that are sure to come out in the coming years.
Your external can't store ps5 games so it's upto you, I use both...external for ps4 games and the SSD for ps5 games and my console Storage for ps5 only. This just allows me to have all my ps4 games separated from my ps5 because i don't want to use any ps4 games on my actual console. To avoid complications
@@joekamado5546you can store your games on both. But only one drive can be used at a time. For example, if you download a PS4 game, it will only allow the PS4 game to be downloaded. The PS5 game has to wait. But after all the updates since then when you first asked. There might be downloadable games that can download in the background at the same time. But as far as moving your files. That is the only thing that can be done one at a time. You can not move your files at the same time. If you choose to move your files from a ssd card to console storage, You can not move your ps4 games at all until the ssd files are completely moved. You can only transfer one storage at a time. But you have to select which one you want to transfer. Either ssd for PS5 games, other external drive that can store PS4 games , console that has the games you first downloaded on your system .
@@joekamado5546if you are asking how to use both games. You have to go into your settings and look for storage and add a external drive to your system. When that external drive appears. Then you have the ability to add both PS5 games and PS4. Once downloaded, the game will be available to play. If it doesn’t end up on your home page of the PS5. Then go into your library and click to play it. Then it will show up. But I think it’s a limited space of games that can fit on your Home Screen. You might can edit it. But that is how you get to play your ps4 games and PS5 games on that one console.
Sony does this EVERY DAMN TIME they release a new console. Then the community gets outraged and complains, then Sony releases firmware to allow what should've been allowed out of the box. Absolute garbage & just goes to show how much they don't care about making a quality product. This is one of the biggest reasons I switched back to Xbox.
Will PS4 games work on a PS5's internal SSD or will PS4 games not work on a PS5's internal SSD? If not, then I'm not buying an internal SSD for my PS5.
You explained it perfectly and it’s the same I just now figured it out getting an 8 TB thinking I was gonna play PS five games but I can’t only play PS4 games thanks no sense
Can someone explain something please. If I buy a seagate external ssd 2tb Can I save all my game achievements as well as the game? Also is it quite easy to transfer the data back and forth. I don’t understand why people don’t choose this option as it’s a lot cheaper than internal expansion.
So can I download a game from my game library to the cloud storage and then delete the game off my console storage. After that can I play the game any time or do u have to re-download to ur console. I'm super confused and I don't wanna loose my progress thanks if any one helps
Thank you Bro 👊🏽 I don't have a PS4 , completely missed it. I've got the new PS5 though... Do you have any recommended PS5 external hard drives ? I've downloaded loads of PS4 games and it's eaten up all the space ahah. I'm thinking of getting the "Seagate officially licensed for PS4 systems"for my ps5 ...
Sony needs to hold this L. they knew modern games took up a monstrous amount of space and they still released the ps5 with such a narrow limited amount of space . Hopefully in the future when newer editions of the ps5 comes out this will be fixed.
So that pretty much explains why i couldn’t use the 1tb drive I literally just bought, my ps5 wouldn’t turn on so i removed it and now it comes on. So I have to wait for PS5 to make an update on the console to accept the 1tb drive?
I have 2 tb internal hard drive. Is it better to delete the games from the system and put it on my new hard drive? It's not many games but I don't want to redownload rdr2 on my ps5 it was loud and took awhile.
Need your help please: I bought “LaCie 8TB Rugged RAID Shuttle USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C External Hard Drive” to use as external storage with my PS5, but the PS5 message is “Can’t format this USB drive as USB extended storage…”. steps that I followed: 1) I used the drive out of the box “preconfigured as raid 0” not working 2) I formatted the drive as ntfs then exfat and tried again not working 3) I connected the drive to the front usb c port on PS5 using the included cable “USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C to Type-C Cable” still not working and getting same message 4) I connected the drive to the USB A port at the back of the PS5 using USB-A to USB-c cable “ cable brand: Comsol with cable data transfer is up to 5Gbps” also didn’t work Is it because the cable transfer data is 5Gbps? Should I buy a new cable rated as 10Gbps? Or is it the drive itself is not compatible? I was using same brand LaCie Rugged with integrated Thunderbolt cable USB 3.0 2tb and the drive was working fine. Can anyone please help on how to make it work with PS5? Drive details: www.digidirect.com.au/lacie-8tb-rugged-raid-shuttle-usb-3-1-gen-2-type-c-external-hard-drive
hi just a quick question, so does the PS5 have 2 available storage spaces? Internal storage with 825gb and a free/empty one that can be added separately NVMe, correct?
That's a good point, but I felt it would complicate the discussion and it's not directly relevant. Especially since it doesn't apply to PS4 games and doesn't apply universally to PS5 titles yet.
@@SydneyButler There have been numerous posts on Twitter of the same games installed on the XBox X and PS5 and the PS5 ends up with more free space. More than half of those games i don't even recognize so i assumed there were PS4 games included as well
@@EuroGupper as far as I am aware, PS4 game images have the same size. PS5 native versions can be smaller using Kraken, but some developers choose to increase asset quality with the extra headroom. Some developers decide not to bother at all. In the context of this video it's not strictly relevant, because the whether you fill the 667GB with 20 games or 100, you need options for when you hit the limit.
Subbed good video buddy thank you for this I hope for a new model that has a 2TB version even if it costs more I rather pay for it cuz my internet is bad and I hate having to delete and re-download games and updates
If I use a ps4 external hard drive for ps4 games on my ps5 I know I won’t get the benefited load times. But will I still get the framerate or resolution boosts that may come from Playing the ps4 game on ps5? Or do I need it to be on the internal storage for that as well.
If u put a game on an external hard drive, will it automatically save game data as well? If I removed the hard drive connected it to another ps5, would all my games and game data/progress be there with the external hard drive?
@@alvingefke6971 Loading times will be affected and games that stream in assets, such as open world games, may have brief stutter or take longer to show high quality assets. Fps by itself will not be affected in general
I just bought an Avolusion external hard drive and for some reason when I connect it I lose internet connection has anyone else have this problem its driving me crazy trying to figure it out
@@GahhDamnAlex yea just depend on the amount of tb you have on your ssd it will add it to your console storage instead of make your console reach that amount af tb. For example if the ps5 has 1 tb and you get a 2 tb ssd you’ll have 3 tb not 2tb. Only thing to mention is it will be separate storage from your console storage, so you’ll have ssd storage and console story if that makes sense.
If you have a drive that was working with a PS4, you can just plug it into the PS5 and the games should show. Assuming that you're logged in with the same PSN account that owns those games.
I wonder if Sony made a deal with these SSD companies. Make the storage low so users need to go buy something else expensive to upgrade… Sony takes a slice from those sales. 🤔
So play PS4 games on extended storage but no PS5 games? That defeats the whole purpose of next gen gaming. We want to play PS5 games with wide array of memory, if we wanted to play PS4 games we would just use our PS4 pff Freaking Sony!
dude sony does this cuz they want you to buy their SSDS why the fuck would they shoot them selfs in the foot knowing ppl will buy it anyways i mean the ps5 is just slightly upgrades console thats worth nothing so why even ask ? this is sony where talking about that would sell their souls to the devil to just profit
Dude I can’t play my damn game cuz no storage. I played 4 games for bout 30 min-1hr each ain’t beat none of them and buy new games oh delete a game first
